UN Squadron (for the millionth time, but first time in 15 years) and Stunt Race FX (for the first time).

UN is amazing, with amazing music too boot.

SRFX is charming as hell, despite the interesting frame rate. It's making me want a modern remake. It's not the easiest though. Really doesn't need the timer...

Super Ghouls n Ghosts, I seriously can’t get past the first level?! The Megadrive GnG was so much easier!

I also got Tomb Raider, Xmen CotA and Last Bronx from a mate so they’re getting some attention.

He also gave me a bunch of CD32 Cover discs which need to be explored!

Mainly been playing PES 5 on my PS2. Master league with Lazio, it's been great fun and I genuinely believe there's not been a better football game released than the PS2 games. The playability of them is great, but there actually a lot deeper than it initially seems. I'm on the lookout for Memory Cards with option files to get all the real kits to improve the experience but it's been great fun anyway!

I sorted out my retro / last gen area on Saturday, meaning everything is now permanently plugged in. When I booted up my PS3, I discovered Gran Turismo 2 was in the drive so gave it a bit of my time. It's still a great game, as long as you can get past the visuals. A lot of fun to play, one of the better competition structures - though this is easy to game, some really good tracks. It's just a good game all round.

I also dusted off the fifth and sixth games in the series yesterday. I remember now why I made the switch to Forza. They aren't good.

After I fixed up my Saturn... I've been enjoying some Street Fighter Alpha 2, Virtua Fighter 2, Parodius and some Bust A Move 2.... loving the D-pad on the Saturn... fighting games are great with it! :)

Forgot how good Parodius is on the Saturn too...

Oh and managed to pick up a copy of Sega Rally on the 360. Think this game flopped on release - probably bad timing. Great game... great how the tracks deform.... challenging game though...

Random Mega Drive games yesterday evening:

Sunset Riders. Pretty meh Contra-as-a-western shooter. Very repetitive.

Ristar (US). Lovely platformer; not incredible, but far more likeable than the Sonic series.

Contra: The Hard Corps (J). Very impressive use of the host hardware, without any processors on the cartridge. There's a reasonable argument that this beats Contra Spirits in several ways.

Bounder surely?  I'm doing the same.  Terrible game though.

edit: also playing Soul Calibur II weapon master mode for some reason.

Did not spot the auto-correct, will leave it.

And it's not a terrible game, it just needs patience and pattern learning.

I'm enjoying it more now than I've done in the past, I must admit.  It's a little too much of a memory test for my liking though and it's frustrating when it plonks you in an impossible spot after losing a life.

Monster Max on the Game Boy.  Every time I play this I'm reminded of just how brilliant it is, tell myself I'm going to stick with it and complete it, then I forget about it again for a few years.  I'm a few levels in this time.  Shame it has a password system instead of battery save, but it's a trifling matter really when I can just snap a shot of the password on my phone.  I might switch to playing on the Super Game Boy as the tiny SP screen is doing my old eyes in.

Opening 15 minutes blitzed through again.

Lost the larvae to Ridley(?). Found ball ability, missiles and ball bomb. Took a lift to Brinstar. Made me way to a bouncing plant thing that needed missiles to the core. Ran out of missiles and got tagged trying to get more. Died.

Is 360 retro yet? I've decided to give XCom: Enemy Unknown another go, having previously cast it aside not that far in. I'm surprised at how well it works on console, a mouse would seem to be the natural controller, and I'm really enjoying starting it over. Aiming to stick at it this time around...

Fire Pro Returns on PS2. I found my old memory card with about 300 odd CAWs on there, been having great fun powerbombing the 2008 WWE roster with Psycho Sid.

Once you get the hang of the grappling system it really is an amazingly fun game. An acquired taste sure, but if you get the grappling down it's easily the best wrestling game ever.

I’ve been in a scrolling fighter kinda mood this evening. Been playing through a few of my faves including Knights of the Round, Asterix and Vendetta.

I've recently played through Cadillacs and Dinosaurs for the first time. I love a scrolling beat em up, but the problem I find with a lot them (and emulated arcade games as a whole, I guess) is that they're built around credits. They can really be pay to win (I think Vendetta lets you top up your health with a credit, doesn't it) and tend to have sections that are just there to unfairly kill you off to get more money out of you...
