Splinter Cell

I’m surprised Ubisoft don’t do more with “Clancyverse” crossovers. I guess Sam is the only real character they have though. And also I suppose it’s clearly not all universe, unless the virus in The Division is really localised :)

Really looking forward to seeing this new Splinter Cell. Ubisoft as a whole have really improved as this gen went on imo, I'm expecting something good :)

Also I really need to start Black List!

I'm kinda worried with almost everything Ubisoft has done recently being either multiplayer and open world or both. Just give me a tight, well designed single player campaign and I'll be happy.

They spoke about this before in the SC series, having bandied the prospect of Sam having to go in and do something undetected whilst Rainbow Six were storming an embassy or whatever.

However they eventually nixed the idea because in their respective franchises they didn't want either party to seem like they were straight out better than the other.

The gameworlds they have created though have been lovingly crafted.

Hopefully Splinter Cell will bring a variety of smaller but equally detailed areas to be based around.. If they have any sense they should just expand on the Blacklist template but I fear it may end up going more along the lines of Metal Gear V.

I think, whether it’s open world or not, they’ll stick mainly to infiltrating large, complex interiors rather than something outdoorsy. If nothing else, they need to set it apart from their other franchises. Wildlands already did the big outdoors. My fingers are still crossed for something along the lines of Mankind Divided’s Prague, but bigger and more bustling.

I don’t mind if they borrow a load of stuff from their other games, as Ubisoft’s open-world third person action games are second to none.

Yeah, I want elaborately designed discrete levels. It would lose all of the distinct feel if it went open world.

Something with the scope and detail of the better levels of Hitman would work if they want to do more open gameplay.

Spies Vs Mercs on chaos theory was one of my all time favourite multiplayer experiences. So well balanced it felt like you learnt something new every game.

I struggled to think if any games which have done a symmetrical muliplayer anywhere nearly as good.

Just want to reiterate how fantastic Chaos Theory was.  Spy’s vs Mercs multiplayer is one of the finest online experiences I’ve had.

ive played all in series except conviction and blacklist but may skip conviction as the general consensus is that it’s the weakest one.

Same. It was one of the only games that I was incredibly good at. My partner and I ranked in the top 10 out of 250k players. I think we were top 5 if it wasn't for some of the glitches that were exploited..

So, the exact opposite of what they have been doing then. Good luck with that.

It's been a while since I played it but I thought Blacklist was a decent template for the series going forward: a Mass Effect-ish structure, "wide-linear" levels, optional side missions, etc. I think such a foundation could support Ubisoft's recent GaaS push, too: it would be easy enough to slot in new post-game content or weekly missions.

My guess is that you'll create your own agent if there's a new game, with Sam being the voice in your ear. I think that'd be a natural progression for the character and a decent opportunity for Ironside to grumble along as an aging professional that isn't used to being hands-off; the scene where he tries to micro-manage your interrogation over an earpiece basically writes itself.

Now that I think about it, I basically want them to make Splinter Cell: Alpha Protocol.

I've also been thinking that Sam might be better relegated to a supporting role. He's in a similar situation to Rocky in that he was already kind of past it in the first instalment, but keeps getting wheeled out for never-ending sequels. He'll be geriatric soon. The less said about the Blacklist incarnation, the better.

I need to try the Wildlands mission. I got the briefing when I fired up the game the other night, but didn't get round to playing it. Sounds like Sam is quite well represented in it.

Fisher ain't got nothing on Agent 47

Agent 47 kills unsuspecting people. Sam Fisher kills Agent 47 9 out of 10 times.

I recall reading in Edge how the devs had to dumb down the AI during development of the first Splinter Cell game because the game was too difficult, and indeed the game did not disappoint. Sam Fisher was a high tech operative, but not a superman. It was perfect. Then the franchise went down the toilet because

Splinter Cell is dead, I doubt it will be truly resurrected.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this, I could do with more Splinter Cell. I just hope it does its own thing, with any Ubi game there's always a chance that it will feel too much like Assassin's Creed. Still, I'm optimistic about this one :)
