I do, a Bone X even! Has that been announced/confirmed/leaked somewhere or are you speculating Bev Conviction has recently gone BC?

It's on an updated image of BC titles.

What do we reckon a new Splinter Cell would entail? Will it be like MGSV or more along the lines of the latest Hitman?

My hope is that it's more linear or a straight up Hitmanlike. Lord knows I could do without the umpteenth open-worlder from Ubi.

Loved Blacklist on the WiiU. Made really good use of the tablet for all of your gadgets.

I do still have my Wii U hooked up, but I'm going for either the PC version (because grfx) or X-BC  (because convenient, it's currently my main platform)

I've been wondering this for a while as I'm a total fanboy for Ubisoft's cookie-cutter open world games. Yeah they're all variations on a theme, but it's the best theme.

Anyway, where would Splinter Cell fit in Ubi's oeuvre if it went open world? There's already not much daylight between Watch Dogs, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Far Cry and Assassin's Creed. But I already typed up what I want to see from an open-world Splinter Cell in the Xbox Backwards Compatibility thread, so I'm just going to paste it here again:

Quote

Also, you'll be pleased to hear I've designed the next Splinter Cell game in my head:

Instead of lots of discrete levels, it'd be a single large open city - somewhere quite lawless or perhaps in the grip of a military coup to allow Sam to get away with all the stuff he does without attracting too much attention, and to give a regular supply of bad guys to neck-snap. The stealth playgrounds would be seamlessly integrated into the open world. Banks, military compounds, embassies, gang hideouts, posh gated mansions etc. A bit like Prague in Deus Ex: MD, but on the larger scale that Ubisoft are so good at. Because it's an open world you can approach objectives with even more variety. Case joints ahead of time, scope out from afar, tackle things at any time of day or night, draw guards away from the objective etc.

So, as well as the usual big stealth set pieces you'd have all the connective tissue inbetween. Steering clear of the authorities, doling out justice when regular civilians are getting hassled, stakeouts, action kicking off in public places, vehicles to travel around in, highway shootouts, high-speed chases and escapes etc.

Another big thing would be your get-up. You can't just go everywhere in your traditional wetsuit and goggles as it'd attract too much attention and look stupid so when you're at a safe-house or accessing the boot of your car (you can transfer a holdall of kit from a safehouse to a vehicle), you can choose to change into the appropriate attire. You'd use regular clothes for staying incognito, but that would mean just one concealed weapon, a limited capacity of gadgets and no NVGs. If it all kicks off when you're incognito you'd have to improvise by grabbing a rifle off a guard, doing some Bourne-style Krav Maga, or just legging it. You can blend in in public, but not hide in shadows as well or have access to all your shit. When you need to do some proper stealthing into high-security areas, wait till night falls, get your car somewhere secluded and get changed into the full Splinter Cell gear and stay out of sight.

I had this idea after watching Sicario and Narcos. It should be like a game version of those but perhaps not set in Latin America so it's not too much like the latest Ghost Recon. Make it so, Ubisoft.

And Spies v Mercs!

Only if they trim it back a bit. SVC was lean and pure in Pandora Tomorrow,  but from Chaos Theory it got too laden down with new options/equipment etc.

I’d still like to see a SC game that lives up to the original concepts of Conviction, as seen in developer notes/sketches and the first(?) E3 video. It looked a bit far-fetched at the time but is totally achievable now.

Open worlds are their bread and butter, but it will probably have a strong online focus. My guess is that they want an audience as big as that of Rainbow Six Siege, which has 25 million players.

Do you mean the original Conviction? Where Sam was a fugitive with lanky hair and a shaggy beard and it was clearly Bourne-inspired?

That’s the one! I shall have to edit the original post. Yeah, the lame Conviction we got was a far cry from what they originally teased.

For me, it's Pandora's Tomorrow > Blacklist > Chaos Theory > Double Agent > Original >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Conviction

Swap the original and Double Agent around and I think that's my order of preference too.

It so isn't. When Chaos Theory exists, I can't see how anyone can think that.

Nah. 3 routes tagged on to a linear route changed nothing, just led to more general design rather than the specificness of the original. Basically, I just prefer linear games, it's not like I wanted it open ended. Designers can be more intricate with your route through, the guards you come across, the situations, and through that be more surprising. Splinter Cell would have you entering a room with loads of guards that would seem impossible - I love that. Then you try loads of things to reach the exit, wondering if you can do it without violence. But it's a contained room, you can see how everything is. Chaos Theory would have you enter a series of corridors with a few rooms and guards moving throughout. It's not as claustrophobic, less of those great moments in SC sneaking past a guard inches away, it felt so exciting the access you'd get. Chaos Theory is also just..less. Less everything because they think linear is a problem.

Spies Vs Mercs on chaos theory was one of my all time favourite multiplayer experiences. So well balanced it felt like you learnt something new every game.

I struggled to think if any games which have done a symmetrical muliplayer anywhere nearly as good.

Just want to reiterate how fantastic Chaos Theory was.  Spy’s vs Mercs multiplayer is one of the finest online experiences I’ve had.

ive played all in series except conviction and blacklist but may skip conviction as the general consensus is that it’s the weakest one.
