Odd choice.

ive yet to play a touchscreen racing game that doesn’t feel horrible to control. Maybe Nintendo will solve that, but I doubt it.

Never played Horizon Chase? It controls perfectly. Or it used to, they knacked saves with some sort of iap model last I looked, and not played it since. But it was perfect.

I genuinely hope Nintendo can’t make it work. If they get Mario Karts right I’ll be in serious danger of pushing my thumbs through my iPhone screen.

I imagine it'll be more around management of a team, rather than a touchscreen based mario kart game...  they want people to buy switches remember.  Wouldn't be surprised though if it integrates with the next Mario Kart on the switch.

It'll be a battery-sapping, coin-farming, shell-grinding IAP-fest where your control will be tilt to steer. Kids who don't know any better will love it. The rest of us will stick with MK8D on Switch. I know Nintendo are a business at the end of the day but do they really need to be wading into the sewerage reservoir that is gaming on a mobile phone?

Touchscreen racers are usually pretty rough - unless you slow everything down it’s always going to be super mashy. So yeah, it’ll be a game of meter management where races happen automatically. Or maybe not.

A racing game with a swipe interface could definitely be good. It's fucking Nintendo after all.

There was a super skimarks looking game where you were racing mad sledges on ice that would use grappling hooks to get around corners. That was controlled just by timing when you touched and how long you held it down.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already has autodrive and motion controls so it'll likely control that way.

It'll just be a cut down version that looks nice with loads of IAPs.

Haven’t you played Horizon Chase either?

Can’t see any reason why you couldn’t do a very decent Mario Karts just like that...apart from needing a third hand to fire your prizes.

Shake to red shell!

Racing games seem to be a type of game that works well on mobile due to gyro so I'm surprised it's gone for touch screen.

Although I signed up for beta I haven't heard anything.. hopefully I find a apk .

Edit : it does support gyro controls.

For the most part, I belive the people who only, or mostly, plays on smartphones/tablets is a totally diffrent market than classic gamers.

My mother, for instance, simply love playing mobile games on her ipad. She's cleared a couple of thousand levels on Candy Crush and god knows how many more on all the Candy Crush clones.

When I got my Switch, she asked if she could try it and she chose to have a go at Puyo Puyo Tetris. I recommended the campaign and she seemed happy with it.

That was until she got to a level she couldn't beat. After a mere 3-4 tries, she asked where the "skip level" button was and how much it cost to skip a level. She had a hard time trying to grasp the concept of being stuck at that particular level until she actually beat it. "This is not for me" she said and handed the Switch back to me.
I died a little bit on the inside that day. I also dread to think how much money she's spent to get to level many-thousand-something on her beloved Candy Crush :(

This is actually mind-blowing O_O

Talking about conditioning people - and especially a whole new generation of gamers.

FTP on consoles is doing it too. My son won't spend £15 on a new game, but spend it on V-Bucks, suddenly its not real money and he can drop the equivalent of £12 for a bloody skin on Fortnite. It's a different economy for a different style of gamer.
