Looks great! All of the voices sound really good too, and fit the characters fine within this movie world.

 

My only reservation is that it looks like it’s doing the ‘fish out of water’ thing again with Mario, who seems to be new to the Mushroom Kingdom. Presumably after being transported from earth? I mean, I get it, because that’s how you introduce the world and the characters to the audience through the main character, but that’s the easy go-to plot for these films. Sonic does the same but the other way around.

I really liked it. Think Mario's voice is perfect for the world and tone they are building. You can't really tell the Mario story without the whole 'he is a plumber who goes down a strange green pipe to a surreal kingdom'. The humour vibed well with me, as did the Star Wars a new hope echoes. Really looking forward to Bowser/Peach scenes.

My 5yo boy who loves playing Mario games together (we already finished New Super Mario Bros Deluxe and 3D World, now halfway through Galaxy) will go crazy over this. I can't show him the trailer though because it's still so far away. But man his mind is going to be blown, he loves Mario so much.

Despite loving Mario’s games for most of my life - as a kid’s movie I guess I ultimately don’t have a dog in the fight here and therefore don’t care too much. 
 

Mario does look weird though. His design is so widely reproduced to an exact standard, you kinda can’t expect to change it and not raise a few eyebrows. Like if Postman Pat started his latest series, but now he worked for Yodel.

Was watching some videos of Cliff Martinez doing the Mario voice for 2 minutes today and thought to myself ‘could I listen to this for 90mins?’

 

I think I genuinely could, it’s really funny. I just love it. Sorry.
