Another thousand games have been added to the sales since last night (but loads are dropping off at midnight). Had a rifle through Deku, most of the Sega M2 games seem to be on offer for less than 2 quid.

Nintendo’s New Year sale!

Has Famicom Detective Club finally been given a discount?

All the Inti Creates games are on sale.

Dragon Marked for Death did not review brilliantly on release but a year of free updates (doubled level cap, new quests, new classes etc) pushed that game up into something I happily poured tens of hours into and can happily return to. If you like your co-op RPGs playing like a Megaman Zero game (also developed by Inti Creates) then it’ll suit you fine.

The Blaster Master Zero trilogy are excellent Metroid-likes and the DLC characters change the game enough to make them worth additional playthroughs.

I’m currently playing Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 and I’m so impressed by the second playable character they introduced that I bought the spin-off made entirely around him: Luminous Avenger XI.

Said character is playable DLC in blaster master zero 2 and he completely and utterly destroys that game with how OP his tools are.

Lastly, Bloodstained Circle of the Moon is an excellent modernisation of classic castlevania.

One thing all these games have in common is they are designed so that you can happily replay them over and over should you wish. I can’t think of a studio better at them in making modern 2D pixel art games.

I bought all those Atlus dungeon crawlers and niche JRPGs for £3.50 each in the eShop sale just on the off chance they never port them to anything else and I fancy playing any of them in years to come.

I also picked up Pocket Jockey, Pullblox, and Boxboy while I had some funds on there, although they weren't in the sale per se. Feel like I really ought to get Layton vs Phoenix Wright as well but £40 is too much for something I might never touch. I suppose it is too much to hope Nintendo will do a final 3DS eShop sale before they shutter it for good?

I’ll need to make a shopping list for the Wii U & 3DS eshop closing.

Off the top of my head Pokemon Crystal is a must because of the Celebi event being built-in to the port. Would not mind a few other game boy and game gear games.

I’d like to get the other Atlus games but Devil Survivor 1, SMT IV Apocalypse and 1 or 2 other games have never been on sale. Some of their games also have DLC. It’s all very costly.

Wii U you want some of the GBA and DS games. Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon (aside from being hard to obtain) has the DLC class items built into the VC version. Drill Dozer on GBA has never seen an EU release outside of VC. The N64 VC can be ignored for the most part as sooner or later the remaining games will end up on switch online.

No idea if the PC Engine ports are any good.

Have the GBA or DS games on Wii-U got anything going for them compared to emulation on any other format?

Nope, other than it’s ‘official’, and a way of giving Nintendo some money for them I guess? Honestly, I’d save the cash and buy a retro handheld to play them on.

EDIT: Oh, I guess the DS games have a proper stylus to use.

I suppose the imminent closure of the eShop for the 3DS and WiiU also means the end of system data transfers for both those consoles?

Nintendo haven’t said that the eShop closure will stop system transfers so as far I know they should still work. They are just disabling the ability to buy games on it.

As @Paulando says, not really. I play DS games on my 3DS and HBA on my Vita.

The Etrian and Persona Q games won't get ported because they just wouldn't work. Building the map is such a big part of those games, you need that second screen.

System transfers, re downloads and updates should still be fine

The Wii U version of Super Mario Advance 4 (SMB3) does have all the e-reader levels other versions omit from what I remember. You can emulate them but then you'd be no better than a common criminal imo.

Is Monster Hunter Rise ever on sale, or should I just buy it full price?

Check Deku Deals. Its been on sale on the eshop before but they also have links to physical versions for about £20

I just came in to post I bought that immediately and then burned through a credit even faster. Even for an 80s arcade game it’s hard, or I’m total shite

Great to have more classic Taito on Switch though.

Note that the Arcade Archives TNZS is based on the "World, Old Version" ROM set, and unfortunately you don't get to select any of the three known arcade board variations (you can read descriptions of the differences here). However, the World, Old Version ROM set was the one that Ocean used for their various home conversions, so it should be familiar to most of us here.

I thought the same. I spent half an hour reading stuff on It last night.
