Another sale, another set of banal queries from me.

How's Obra Dinn on the Switch? Didn't even know it was on the Switch until it popped up here.

Might finally try Golf Story and/or West of Loathing, if anyone has any opinions on those.

Obra Dinn is flawless. I completed it on both Switch and Series X and there's no functional difference that I could tell.

West of Loathing is a great, overlooked gem. I made a thread for it a while back.

Frankly you disgust me you've not got them both already.

Obra Dinn is poor. Avoid it.

Now, I've no issue with people putting forward opinions that don't match the general consensus (I'd lead a somewhat dysphoric life otherwise, after all), but it helps to give some kind of reasoning if you want to help someone make a decision about whether to try a game or not. What was it about the game that you found poor? Perhaps your issues will match concerns Parksey harboured, and you'll save them some money; or perhaps they'll be things Parksey feels confident won't bother them, in which case they will feel comfortable trying the game regardless.

Simply saying that the game "is poor" after a litany of praise from other posters, on the other hand, doesn't really give Parksey anything to go on.

Obra Dinn is a top ten game of all time. But it does require commitment.

It's a fantastic game, very funny and a great little puzzler. I preferred the humour in West of Loathing though.

I’m sorry! I didn’t want to dislike it but the obvious big problem with comedy in games is that if you lean into it and it doesn’t hit for the player then no amount of great story and mechanics (I liked playing it) can save it.

Some bargains to be had I'd you like your retro throwback kinda stuff.

Is there an app that tracks this stuff on nintendo store, all of the "matches previous low" stuff?

I want to get back into my Switch but the blizzard of games on the store is a lot of "noise" to sift through!

ta - and is there anything that can help me with the noise ratio in the store or is it a combination of scrolling this thread and digging through the depths of the store?

I stopped following the switch scene as my son had commandeered it so I never saw it or played on it for ages. Now I look back into it I can just see paaaaages of stuff :D

Dekudeals has ways of sorting by metacritic or user rating which helps a lot. Poke about on there, it's very flexible and configurable. Nintendo should hire the guy to redesign the eshop tbh, it's the worst store layout of all the major ones.

Unfortunately not. The eShop has decent filters but none for sifting through the sheer volume of utter garbage that's on there. There's no review system so you can't even sort by that. The desktop version of Deku Deals has some functions I can't see on the mobile version, like All Time Low sorting and the mobile one has reviews attached to Metacritic but a) Metacritic can be bullshit and b) not all games have a Metacritic rating. Best thing to do is just add to wish list over time and keep checking back. Almost everything has been in a sale at some point and absolutely 100% will come back to being on sale, it's just being patient.

Ooh yes that does look pretty cool and it has thrown up a "gem" already - warlock of firetop mountain is a switch game and has a high metacritic score and is £2 - I'm off to youtube to see what it is like compared to the book :D

Also bezier looks fun for £2

I now have hours of research ahead of me -

Warlock of... leaves at midnight but it's been on offer loads so if you miss it it'll be back sooner or later.

Thats brilliant thanks - Metacritic can be bullshit especially with smaller games with few reviews. But it does give me some pointers to add to my wishlist - at least the store has one! But maybe I should use the dekudeals one

Warlock... nails the feel of playing - and mapping - the book brilliantly, with a little light turn-based strategy combat layered on top for more of a video game feel. Well worth a couple of quid.
