The region should only an issue in a few cases where the same game has separate SKUs to cover different regions. Puyo Puyo Tetris and Splatoon jump out. If you have a separate Japanese account for the eShop then you can still play the purchased games on your main English account.

That right, but there are a number of games where it's a separate SKU and no easy way to tell in advance.

Alternatively, save yourself the hassle and simply don't buy any Nintendo platformers, as they're all a bit pants anyway! Wario Land excepted.

Really they should just stick to what they're great at, i.e. getting second- and third-party studios like HAL Laboratories, Monolith Soft, Retro Studios and Intelligent Systems (and, historically, Argonaut and Rare) to make good games. None of this first-party nonsense.

This is being done completely deliberately now I’m sure of it, no one has this bad taste unless it’s you know... dare I say trolling!

...also more fool means as I expect some insane response pointing out that Yoshi’s Island or NSMB were always crap and never any good, and I’ll just want to smash my phone is utter rage.

Like I said, trolling.

What can I say, I was getting bored of everyone arguing about which 2D Nintendo platformer was least bad, so thought I'd join in!

I do think Nintendo are generally under-appreciated for their work as a publisher, though, and as a rule I don't like their 2D platformers, so all of that statement also had the benefit of being true to my tastes. Though, thinking about it, Tropical Freeze was actually Retro, wasn't it (just as the original DKC's were Rare)? Perhaps I should revise my opinion of their ability to get good work out of other developers with the caveat that it only applies insofar as 2D platformers aren't involved.

Also yes, NSMBU is one of the best platformers I’ve ever played and has far better level flow than even SMW.

The game kicking you out to the world map and taking an age to get back into the level on death is the only annoying thing.

That’s everything! That’s the flow! And it’s awful.

It’s not even like they don’t recognise it. Mario Maker has a retry option. Odyssey doesn’t have lives. It adds nothing positive to the experience and stops me from ever putting it on for a quick go.

No, the flow through the level when you’re doing well, it flows beautifully.
Not the general UX flow when you die, it is slow and annoying yes, but it’s not the worst thing in the world.

I'm kind of finding the same thing with Yookie Layla right now.   Just let me start where I left off at the end of the game and not trudge through to the last point.  The levels are fine, but that's really annoying.

Tropical Freeze > all

My man. I'm trying to enjoy Yooka Laylee at the moment but it's difficult when I just keep being reminded how good this is instead. I can take or leave the SNES ones but Returns and Tropical Freeze are about as good as it gets.

That said if we're talking 2D platformers in eShop deals then Rayman Legends for £7.49 is Mayor of Valuetown. I think I've bought it four times now. I regret nothing.

I like NSMBU a lot, its the best by far in a pretty mediocre series. Better than Mario World, Mario Bris 3 or Yoshi’s Island? Not even close. Lacks the originality and although it’s improved somewhat the art style of all NSMB games are hideously bland. The series seeks to have been left for now so hopefully next time Nintendo want to create a new 2D Mario they can be more creative with the art and gameplay. I’d love to see a 2D Mario platformer done similar to the style of Paper Mario.

it’s a fun game and an essential game if you love 2D platformers. Not a patch on the classics and I’ll rate Yoshi’s crafted world over it.

Rayman Legends is indeed outrageous value.

Why didn’t I buy dead cells sooner? It’s fantastic!

"You'll get better...eventually."

It really is one of those games where the controls become an extension of your hands. So satisfying to play and perfect for Switch™.

I was a little worried as everyone said how hard it was. I played it for a while, and it took me a while to get killed, and I’m not the greatest at these type of games.

I’m really enjoying it and don’t even mind dying (yet). The combat is fantastic and every new weapon is a joy.

Ive had my eye on it for a while, but decided to bite the bullet due to to the sale. Really glad I did.

The first complete play through. Throw a couple of traps at a boss and go make a sandwich. By the time you’re playing at a higher difficulty it already has you hooked.

The recent update added a new early game pathway, adding more variety to runs and allowing you to avoid areas that are giving you particular bother.

For anyone interested in the upcoming Murder By Numbers, found this gameplay footage:

I cannot overstate how distressed I am that the game comes out hours after I board a 16 hour flight. I'm really looking forward to it, and not just because of Ed Fear's involvement!

I spent the weekend playing Speed Runners. It’s a brilliant multiplayer game. The mechanics of it reminded me of micro machines ie the person the the lead has a disadvantage because they cant see ahead.

Looks good from a quick video I just watched. I'll add to my watch list.

If you like Speed Runners, try Runbow. - I've played it lots, and looks like it is very similar to Speed Runners.

Runbow is on sale for £2.39 until 1 Mar, and supports up to 8 players.
