To each their own, I guess, but in what way are Iconoclasts, Chasm, and The Messenger not metroidvanias?

A metroidvania should have non-linear maps, gated behind abilities and hidden power ups. All three of those are either completely linear, or the map opens up based upon story beats and locks rather than ability gates. (I put a? by Chasm because I got fed up with it quite quickly, so that may turn into one).

@therearerules

Definitely give Downwell another chance. It didn’t click with me first time, probably because the mechanics aren’t explained at all. But when I went back to it and spent more time playing/learning, I found it really enjoyable (especially in Tate mode).

Is Rush Rally 2 decent? Cant find much info on it and how it performs either. Been wanting a racing game for a while and its not too expensive, right?

There is discussion on it in the main switch thread, essentially it is a modern remake of the PS1 Colin McRae rally games by one guy who used to do the car physics at Sumo.

A real labour of love, if you were into those games back in the day you will love it.

Picked up The Messenger and Katana Zero in the sale. Have started the former and done the first couple of levels; everything seems perfectly in order, quite entertaining if not spectacular. But I am finding the humour absolutely excruciating and massively out-of-place. Would rather they played it completely straight to be honest, but nevermind.

Also! Just because it seems to be coming up in a couple of places and it's fun to be contrary, I really didn't enjoy Baba Is You at all. To be fair to the game, I think part of my problem is that my brain simply doesn't appear to want to work the way that the game wants it to. To be unfair to the game, I think it looks and sounds terrible and everytime I started a new level rather than rub my hands together, I just sighed a bit.

Is the Windjammers currently on sale any good? I find it odd that it’s not part of the ACA series with the other Neo Geo games...

DotEmu added some online multi and some other frills but it’s proper Windjammers. Which obviously means it’s the best game ever.

Does anyone have a link for a faq or manual for Rush Rally 3? Most of it’s fairly self explanatory but there’s some stuff that’s never mentioned. Like, why are the Rallies divided into red, green and yellow sections? And what do I look at to tell me how well I’m doing on each stage?

I bought Cities: Skylines yesterday from Game thinking £24.99 was a fair price for the gamble. Down to £14.39 on the eShop today

Did the performance issues this had at launch get fixed?

Did anyone else know that Puzzle and Dragons is coming out on the 15th January? No? Me either.

Never did finish the 3DS version. Got to the end boss who could kill me in five seconds, couldn’t bring myself to grind for weeks to have a chance.

The same games in the sales seem to cycle around every three months or so, so I wouldn't feel under pressure to snap them up. I tend to buy a couple every month and usually have at least one on the back burner.

Having said that I'd recommend both Hyperlight Drifter and Rogue Legacy in the current sale.

The Banner Saga games only go on sale very occasionally and they’re a steal at their current prices. Proper games, proper writing, proper music and magnificent sprite animation.

I know they’re available on all platforms, and I’m not on commission. But as someone who doesn’t play very many games anymore, I really appreciate the world building, concept and care that has clearly gone into a series of games like this. And the first two are each the price of a pint right now.

Nintendo have finally added the usual first party games to the sale at the usual third off if anyone's not squandered away all their credit on mobile ports and old Final Fantasy games already.

It's brilliant. Although I'm annoyed no one plays it online as it's a top tier multiplayer game.

Just went into the store as I am thinking of Street Fighter... and saw Mario Kart in the sale. Picked up a new copy which will 99% be a home-TV game with my GF for full retail. The download is tempting so I dont have to change cards. Sunk cost now tho!

Would like Sonic Mania in a sale as I already have it on PS4...

I doubled (triple if you count the Wii U...)-dipped on Mario Kart out of laziness last year when it was in the Christmas sale. I regret nothing.

I've done the same a few times now with Monster Hunter, Civ VI and a few others. I get the arguments for digital costing what it does but if companies could consistently release their games at this price point on the eShop it'd make things interesting.

I wish someone at Nintendo would remember that they released Hyrule Warriors for the Switch, just so it'd appear on sale for once.

It's been on sale (for £33) at least twice. You missed it!

You mean the price an old port should have been released at in the first place? I somewhat kid but damn I wish for a Classics style price range for these old ass games. See also Mario Bros U Super Duper Edition

I wish for the same with Square Enix and The World Ends With You Final Remix which unless I missed it has never been on sale.

But the new versions include all the old DLC too. HYRULE WARRIORS has the new maps and characters (and 3DS extras), and Mario U has Luigi U included.

This is an insane price for probably the game of 2019 on the Switch.
