Critical Role - The new campaign

Recommended Posts

Laura and Travis have just made an announcement.. :D

(Travis sneakily dropped a hint about both Fjord, Jester AND the baby way back in Grog's one-shot!)

Loving the new campaign so far, up to episode 5. The new characters are great but really Nott and Jester steal the show. In the episodes where they're just barging around town, I really don't care because its so funny and entertaining just to see the cast role-playing these new roles. I'm finding to hard to go back to the dourness of season 1 in comparison!

Quote

Obsidian Entertainment, developers of genre-defining RPGs such as Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity, in partnership with publisher Versus Evil, and Critical Role, the biggest group in live-stream tabletop role-playing, are proud to announce their collaboration on the forthcoming Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

As a special treat for fans of the show, the Critical Role cast is returning to the characters they popularized in their first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, Vox Machina, allowing Deadfire players to choose Critical Role’s character voices for their created party members in the game.

Special Vox Machina player portraits will also be available as a free DLC when Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire launches on May 8th.

Also Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is out - containing both the cast's voices AND free specific voice/image DLC packs so that you can recreate their campaign 1 characters (& Gilmore) in the game as your companions... It's out of PC/Mac now with consoles to follow towards the end of the year (Q4 is all that's listed)..

16 hours ago, Orko said:

I'm not caught up, but is Liam being all emo again? Meh, if so.

It's a ~little~ more complex than that..

Also - the 6-issue Origins comic will be getting a print/hardcover & special edition.. (previously released only digitally..)

Episode 19

Comic book - hardcover and special edition - out on May 31st..

https://critrole.com/vox-machina-origins-hardcover-on-sale-info/

WAY too costly for me though - especially with US shipping - (and like the artbooks only available through the G&S/Aplha stores!)

Dark Horse have said there is the possibility of other options later.. hoping for a paperback trade that hits bookstores as well..

(For comparison.. all six digital issues on Comixology will cost you a total of just under £9..)

Episode 20

And something wonderful (they play it at the start of next week's episode, but it's on Youtube now..)

A few months back Sam did an 80's style jingle for D&D Beyond at the start of an episode.. (several fans later added backing tracks etc to it..)

D&D Beyond commissioned a couple of animators\musicians (& Sam rerecorded the song) to turn it into a proper advert in the style of an 80's cartoon intro.. :D

Spoiler

(It's the same couple of animators who earlier did this Vox Machina intro animation..)

Episode 21

If that's not enough D&D for you this week, many of the cast were participating in the 'Stream of Many Eyes' - an event where D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast announced their latest campaign releases..

(Link to stream for the 3rd day when all the following took place - but they're now up on WotC's youtube..)

- Ashley, Sam and Taliesin were playing in Adventure Impractical - a Mission Impossible style heist run by UK DM Mark Hulmes who runs the excellent 'High Rollers' campaign on Yogscast..

Spoiler

- Matt and Marisha played in the 'Witch of Briarcleft' adventure, excellently DM'd by Daredevil and True Blood actress Deborah Ann Woll

Spoiler

- Travis reprised playing Grog for 'Jocks Machina' - an adventure designed for 'Tank' characters, also featuring Joe Manganiello returning from his CR guest turn as Arkhan and WWE's The Big Show!

Spoiler

..and as you'd expect.. Sam is gonna Sam..

Up to Episode 20. Sam Riegal is a god basically.

Nott's story is amazing (Nott the Goblin...damn in) and the interaction with Caleb

It's nice to see Yasha/Beau interact and the actors RP nicely. Both have been really impressive.

Ford - never like straight played "tough guy" characters, and Travis can't change this for me :( Wish he remembered how war caster worked too (Matt seems to be putting more emphasis on them remembering how their characters work this time)

Caleb - interesting backstory, and it's nice to see him looking to be control/buff/debuff rather than blaster character. Some good bits from Liam too.

Molly seems to be pretty useless (has he even really been in melee recently?). Talesin seems down on character/options now he's no where near top in combat effectiveness and others shine (not sure if it's an issue with blood hunter, or how played) - couple with irritating "me too" story moments (Darm you Orko) and he's a firm least favourite now.

Things I might be overthinking:

Is The Traveler Artagan?

Nott wants to be True Polymorphed Right?

They're going north where it's colder, and Matt put a warm clothes vendor on their path...which they ignored. This is going to go badly.

What the fuck is Yasha?

Episode 23

..and an announcement..

https://critrole.com/an-important-announcement-regarding-critical-role/

The cast have set up their own company and arere becoming (somewhat) independent of Geek and Sundry and moving to their own studio.. They will be producing new shows and taking merch etc. in house..

G&S Twitch and YouTube streams will still broadcast the show (for the foreseeable future anyway..) but this new Critical Role company will now have it's own new Twitch and Youtube channels.

The studio move will mean there will be no Talks Machina on 3rd July or Critical Role on the 5th..

Essentially not much is changing (yet?)

Critical Role and Talks Machina will still air (only) on G&S Twitch and Project Alpha..

Critical Role VODs will be available on G&S Twitch, Project Alpha and G&S YouTube..

Critical Role's extra overlay features will still only be for Project Alpha and be on Project Alpha VODs..

Talks Machina VODs will be available on G&S Twitch, Project Alpha..

Talks Machina's "after dark" bit will still only be on Project Alpha..

Any new shows they produce will be on the new Critical Role Twitch and YouTube channels, and not on G&S Twitch or YouTube..

The Kickstarter page for the minis will go live at 8pm tonight.. and seemingly runs until 6th July (a week and a half seems awfully short?)

Am pretty sure it'll be fully funded before tomorrow..

http://steamforged.com/sfg-news-blog/25-6-2018-critical-role-miniature-range

VM Set of 8: Vax, Vex, Grog, Keyleth, Pike, Percy, Scanlan, Trinket..

Kickstarter backers also get: Tary & Doty

MN Set of 8: Ford, Beau, Caleb, Jester, Molly, Nott, Yasha & Shakaste..

Kickstarter backers also get: Pumat Sol (Prime) & 3x Pumat Simulcrae

Other Steamforged sets seem to go for £35-£50 for 7-8 minis so it will (hopefully) not cost more than that..

(Their Dark Souls board game expansion pack comes with 14 minis for £50..)
