Fuckin’ yuss!!! Goodnight Ornstein and Smough.

Haha! Oh yay!

I can’t believe I have managed to stay relatively insulated from a lot of spoilers in this game. Even just by having seen random clips on YouTube or whatever over the past decade. Like, I’d heard the names O+S a couple of times but when I first saw them in this run was the first time I’d ever seen them (O is a cool cool design).

Ornstein and Smough are, by far, the most difficult boss in the game. Not even the last boss comes close (if anything he’s too easy!).

Yeah, by the time I got to the last boss I was a strontium lined tank and battered him very quickly.

@5R7 Have you played that Nightfall mod?  It's just popped up on my youtube via this video - I've only watched a very small about but it sounds really great!  That'll keep me going once Sekiro's done until ER is out :D

Got the demo up and running. Too late for a proper go. But ooooooh there seems to be a time reset mechanic, a bit like Majora's Mask? Bloodborne dodges? Interesting starting classes! Fluted armour from Demon's? It continues from the dark Lord ending!? Amaze. This is gonna be great!

Cool area that though, except for those invisible paths like. And the scallops. Fuck those guys.

Onwards. Not sure where to yet though.

Ahah, nice one thanks.  There’ll be places I’ve forgotten I’ve even seen at some point and thought “I’ll go there later”.

Have you been back to the Undead Asylum yet?

Spoiler

There's an item there you'll need for an optional area as well as some shinies

To go back,

Spoiler

Climb Firelink and have a look around

Hmm not since claiming the LordVessel and hanging out with Ol’ Gnashers. I’ll have a pop back at some point.

So just to check, are you referring to

Spoiler

Climbing into the crow’s nest and heading back to Northern Undead Asylum (and also getting the key from the top of the chapel)?

if so, just got spanked by

Spoiler

Asylum Demon (Stray Demon iirc)

That's the one :D

He's worth defeating as you get a good upgrade item

Also make your way back to the cell that you started in. There's an item there

So I’ve done the

Spoiler

Painting World. Chose not to fight the Scythe wielding boss.  (She appealed to my better nature*)

*any excuse to swerve a boss fight.

and also just offed

Spoiler

Pinwheel and GraveLord Nito.

Both of which were fairly trivial (in comparison to other bosses). They’re the only two bosses I’ve done first try so far. The latter boss I only really attempted as a bit of an exploratory mission to see how much of a nightmare it was going to be.

Also,

Spoiler

Little baby skellingtons are pretty upsetting.

I guess we're past the point of recommending the well at Firelink right?

On the contrary, it’s my next destination.

Spoiler

Just got to

Spoiler

Lost Izalith

and

Spoiler

Solaire.

Reached

Spoiler

The Kiln.

What a ride.  Loved (nearly) every second (O+S can for sure get stuffed like), before this the thought of a 100 hour+ game would put me right off, but this has been amaze.

However…. I haven’t done the DLC.  So, the endgame will have to wait. For now.

oh, shout out to

Spoiler

New Londo Ruins.

What a super cool, atmospheric area. Possibly my fave.

Well done. Now, get to the dlc!

I strongly recommend looking up a guide how to access it if you haven't already. The method for getting there is so obtuse I don't think I know of anyone who figured it out for themselves.

  • 1 month later...

Small update on this.
Yesterday I beat up some fella called the four kings.

I Havelled up to the back teeth and Leroy Jenkins’d the hell out of them. Not the most elegant of battles, but it seemed to do the trick. I’ve still got no idea what I’m doing. I saved and quit after it. A camp snake with wooden teeth wanted a chat, but time was getting on…

I just beat Ornstein and Smough. No one in my house is bothered by this.

But I feel I need to share it because they’ve been a pair of right rotters for a considerable amount of my gaming time. So fuck them.

I have no idea what the rest of the game holds in store, and quite frankly I’m not bothered, but beating that pair of turnips has made my night. It was more luck than judgement, but I will take it…

For beating the ultimate boss, you’ve given the ultimate item…The ability to warp between bonfires.

One of the many reasons the original DS is the best.

I was playing this quite a lot a few weeks ago on switch, never having really given a go. I have managed to get to anor londo but frankly anor londo can fuck off. It's just very boring. Which is a pity as I have enjoyed the game upto that point.
