Right. Apparently we outsource the publication of our digital editions and, due to a scheduling error brought on by Christmas (which apparently is a surprising thing you can’t plan for) they were late with this issue. I assume that applies to readly also. I was told it’d be finally uploaded last night. 

 

@Jamie John How often does this happen on google newsstand? If it’s a persistent thing then maybe we need to do something differently. 

 

@Gorf King if your copy hasn’t arrived my Monday let me know and I’ll get one in the post.

I changed from the print edition to digital for the November issue (Asassin's Creed) and every issue since then has been late (Mario Odyssey, Monster Hunter World, and now this month's issue).

 

Thanks for looking into this! Sorry to get you doing work stuff at the weekend. I tried contacting Future the first time it happened, but they basically said it was out of their hands, so I've just put up with it since then.

I've subscribed on Google Newsstand since the Odyssey issue, and I can confirm that the Monster Hunter issue, the Final Fantasy issue, and now this month's issue have been late. (Jamie forgot to mention the FF issue).

 

Edit: right now it's still not available on Newsstand btw. Thanks looking into this Nate, and thanks Jamie for speaking up on behalf of all of us on Google/Android.

I've been buying the Google Newsstand version for almost 4 years now, and I reckon it is late around 60-70% of the time. Usually around 3 days late, and on one extreme case, just over 3 weeks late. Unacceptable really, and considering the basic nature of it compared to the iPad version I can't even imagine how the hell they fuck it up so often.

The iPad version is a lot simpler than it used to be: basically an animated cover and a pdf.

 

(or, at least, that’s what it feels like compared to the much more app like version they published a few years ago)

I'm tempted to go back to the print edition because this has happened every time since I switched to digital.

 

it's always out on release day via Readly and that is just the basic PDf rather than the slightly more interactive iOS version.

Since I moved to the US I have become a big fan of the Edge app on my iPhone - that has done a great job of helping me keep up to date. Amusingly the newsagents outside Harvard (I am in Boston) stocks a small selection of international magazines, one of which is Edge. It is typically a couple of issues behind, but there is something rather fun about seeing Edge over here!

Funnest place I spotted Edge was while living in Japan. In a side alley in Akihabara I found an import shop full of American and European import games (selling at import prices of course) which also had Edge for sale!

Not this time it isn't... still the Final Fantasy issue on there at the moment as the latest one.

 

The other Future magazines released in the last week or so seem to have made it, though... Official Xbox and PC Gamer are showing up as the new issue, for instance.

Sorry, my mistake. I thought that was the latest (the issue was a bit too FF heavy for me and as that is a game series I have zero interest in I’ve only flicked through this month)..
