The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Finished watching this last night, quite enjoyed it, not as much as the LotR films but more than The Hobbit films.

It definitely did that Lord of the Rings adaptation thing of dragging things out for at least 3 times longer than it needed but it's a trope of the series now so it's fine.

RoP had its issues and non-white actors were precisely zero of them.

I know these moaners are out there, but I don't see their output unless I go actively looking for them. Maybe my online activity means the algorithms just see me as a lost cause in that respect, but they only get attention if it's given.

I am staggered that Rod Hull is in the new series.

Is it him?

I am confident he will play some kind of hobbit who packs up a tasty travel kit, replete with a flask of weak lemon drink.

Actually in regards to Kevin Eldon, one of his finest pieces of work has to be Kreech in the radio series Elvenquest.

Perhaps he will reprise such a role! A pity there wasn't a 4th series.

Recommend if you've never heard it.

There was a 4th but not a 5th.  Eldon also played Dean the dwarf.

It’s spot on though. Articulates much better (if not exactly eloquently at times as per the title) what felt off for me in RoP beyond just the specific fight scene comparison it’s talking about. Just an exemplar of an underlying malaise.

Any analysis video that feels the need to put the word "sucks" in the title, let alone in all caps, is unlikely to have anything interesting to say in my experience.

It's been proven by multiple high profile (trustworthy) youtubers you basically have to put some bullshit cllickbaity title in, if you want your video to be a hit. The difference is, at least the video ends up being good.

The video was fine, but I think he should have the self awareness to know that most people don't relentlessly logically assesses everything they see.

Now maybe on a subconscious level everyone is noticing these logical failings within a scene, and that's the point the youtuber is making, but the main issue was the writing. In lotr we see Aragon's heart melt as he gets to know the hobbits. Jackson does this in just a few scenes and we see they become close a group. When we see aragorn going down that hill we know he die trying to save them, it's brilliant.

In rings of power elf man and human lady are already in love, just because they fancy each other. I think what was a mistake, she must be an extraordinary women for an elf to even take notice of her but she comes across as a good school teacher. There is no humour or fun in their relationship, barely any warmth.

Rings of power has a tough gig constantly being compared to two masterpieces I feel.

I couldn't make it to the end of the series. I found everyone in the thing thoroughly unlikeable.

Also, the one thing I remember from all of this - the standout thing that has lodged in my brain - is how distinctly inappropriate that human woman's (the mother of the lad who finds the broken sword) outfit was in order to show off a bit of cleavage.

It's what happens when you throw unspeakable amounts of money at something but have no real reason what to do with it.
