That’s the Donnie Darko 4K replacement disc, so they’re starting to arrive now! 

Fuck, had no Idea The Thing was out. I wonder if I can wait until a 2 for £30...

My Donnie Darko finally arrived as well. Now I need to sort my Demons' disc out.

I do have all those Studio Canal 4k boxes but I must admit I find the artwork absolutely naff. Also that steelbook for the The Thing above, without the title I would have presumed it was Escape from New York.

 

Arrow used to nail it with the artwork back in the day but even they are very hit-and-miss now, I thought the Robocop one was rubbish for example and regret not getting the steelbook with the classic poster on the cover.

Yeah, it's odd. But I'm glad they've done it. They must've realised it would play havoc with people's (my) OCD if they did something different, making it a good selling point!

It’s annoying enough as it is that the white isn’t consistent on the Studio Canal ones.

That’s the extended version included too, I think? 20th anniversary or something?

 

I noticed The Guest is £50 for the fancy pants version. I assume the big standard one isn’t listed yet.

 

I also have an Apple TV box now and some of the prices in the sales on that push films from ‘no thanks’ to ‘ok then’.

It's really good, I saw it for the first time in the last year on 4K. It's a really good 4K and a really good movie that captures atmosphere like few others.

 

On another note I had Top Gun sitting on my shelf and finally got to watch it, might be the best transfer I've seen, except for one part when Maverick is leaving Viper's house it goes all smudgy for a few seconds.

I preordered the rerelease of EFNY too late. Missed out on the box set again!!! Amazon cancelled my order. Goddammit!!

 

edit: found a third party seller on Amazon selling it for four quid more than the original asking price. I can live with that, and the third party seller no doubt makes their little profit. Is there anything to stop third parties making huge preorders and then reselling? I guess not. At least I don’t feel like I’ve been totally gouged.

After desperately wanting one for years, I finally have a 4K TV coming on Monday. I’ll probably stream most content for it (money’s very hard these days), but I’ve ordered both Dredd and Blade Runner on disc for my first viewings. Can’t wait.
