I was awful at the combat when I started but after 10 hours or so it just clicked into place and I was whirling around like a true samruai, looking at forts packed with enemies as a single foe challenge generally just wiping the floor with everyone. Moving from this combat to FF7 Remake with Cloud's blade was a bit of a step down to say the least

There have been two areas I've come across where the game warns me "there is an overwhelming number of enemies here", and he took me a few deaths to figure out that was because it was a plot mechanism and you couldn't take it on yet.

Until I clocked the infinite spawning enemies coming out of a barracks, I was 100% this:

Impressed the missus by doing a bamboo stand after a couple of attempts - was a pretty tricky pattern too. She couldn't believe I managed a perfect sequence of 7 presses in the time allotted, after just two or three run-ups.

Not as much of a fan of the northern area. I like the summery/autumnal beauty of the first two areas. It definitely seems smaller, though, so I'm hoping Act 3 is super dramatic and I don't get bogged down by side que....ooh. There's something on that mountain over there.

I love the snowy scenery, but there is much less to do up here. I think it's time to finish it off...

Wow. I should have seen that coming.

Spoiler

I wondered why I had not achieved the 'all duels completed' trophy when I thought I had completed the last mission.

If you...

Spoiler

kill him you get white Ghost armour dye, if you spare him you get red. That's basically it, nothing else changes except some dialogue with Yuna. Her dialogue also changes depending on whether you've fully liberated Tsushima or not. I have both rewards and I prefer the white, tbh. Stabby stabby.

Cheers! Yeah,

Spoiler

I gave him what he wanted. Old-school samurai like him, it was the right thing to do.

I had cleared everywhere before finishing - I'm missing two hidden trophies, the trophy for 20 perfect parry kills, and trophies for finding various shrines, hot springs and monuments. Closest I've been to 100%ing for a while.

Aaaand done. I went the same way as you, Smac. Seemed the most fitting and offered what felt like a little bit of redemption.

I was going to do all the collectibles - I've a fair few mystery locations on the map - but...I'm not that bothered. I'm glad I did all the sidequests before the story missions in each area. Loved it.

Yeah, I only have 2 trophies left; one is for 20 'perfect parry' kills - the very last shrine I found, after completion, had the charm to make perfect parries easier. D'oh! Not sure I'll bother with those.

I even found all

Spoiler

hidden shrines; where you bow and trigger a swarm of fish, frogs, fireflies, etc.

without any guide.

Just finished this after 47 hours. What a game and absolutely beautiful on PS5.

Spoiler

I spared the old man, it didn't feel right killing him for some reason - I know Jin descended into technically being a dishonorable and almost bad guy but I just couldn't kill him for being a stubborn old git.

I was half expecting a twist during the final Khan battle, with Uncle making a deal with him to leave the island or something like that. Glad it didn't happen though.

The saddest moment is at the end of Act 2 when Sora (my horse's name) died. Can't believe how much that got to me.

I haven't 100% the game, still need to clear some mongols from the mainland and I haven't done every shrine or trophy etc. I tried bowing at loads of different things and never found a single hidden shrine as mentioned above.

I don't read up on games if I can avoid it as I don't like spoilers but I'm free to check out guides to find all the easter eggs now.

With regard to your uncle;

Spoiler

I'm not sure if I gave him what Jin thought he wanted, or what Jin needed to regain some Samurai honour in his Uncle's eyes.

And as for the

Spoiler

hidden shrines, most, if not all, had a little wooden plaque on a post with a picture of a bowing man in front of it. Just find that picture and bow to the thing next to it. Some were just bowing at the edge of a river, on a fishing pier. Others were tucked away on the way to a main shrine.

I've been getting back into this, this week, and despite the fact that I still think there's a lot of missed opportunity - the stealth and grappling hook are bobbins and undercooked, all the camps are basically the same, it still manages to do enough to keep me interested with it's style, beauty and combat.

I'm now in Act II and having "Duel Amongst the Wotsits" activities mixed in is just brilliant.

After nearly abandoning this, I’ve been sucked back into it and now can’t see myself not finishing it. It does so many things wrong, I feel, but does just enough to keep me engaged. The pacing almost feels as lethargic as one of the mind numbing Haiku bits. Why is it only 15 hours in that l’m learning the Ghost stance, for example?

I would love to have seen what they could have achieved if they’d put less time into putting so much padding in and obsessing over the style and put some more effort into the Ghost mechanics.

It looks amazing at 60fps. I look at it and struggle to believe it’s a last gen game that looks exactly like this (at 30fps) on PS4 Pro.

You know, besides the "I understood that reference" aspect, I do wonder if any of these movies can be... good? Uncharted (as a game) is watered down Indiana Jones with more Michael Bay pyrotechnics. Likewise Ghost of Tsushima is watered down Kurosawa with a lot of collecting. The stories in both of these games are fine to carry the title, but how on earth are you going to bloat both of those up to good-movie levels?

Had an issue when I went back to this on ps5. "Start New Game" - NOOOO. Then realised I had to manually download my PS4 cloud save from PSPlus (overwriting the new save game).

It still looks amazing and no longer have the fan going ballistic on the console when playing. You wouldn't know it was a last gen title.
