I really enjoyed the quests in the game, some of them are written really well.

Yeah, some of them are excellent. A lot of it is quite by the numbers, though. I’ve just completed Act I, and I have about half the first area still unexplored. I freed one village, and just hope they’re not all the same format.

I'm still waiting for this to arrive. It's just moved from Northampton to Nottingham, apparently... I should've just chucked the extra £5 on the digital version. Physical games in 2020 are madness when you think about the extra time, labour, carbon footprint and pointless plastic involved.

I was finding this a bit average until I realised that I had fallen into the same trap that I always fall into with open world games... the side quest trap.

Now I’m focusing on the main storyline missions and only doing side quests if they’re nearby or I wanna test out a new ability. Loving the game once again. Almost finished Act 3 and then I think I’ll give Legends a go.

I got this yesterday. Enjoying it so far. Quite like bumping into groups of people on the road and having a stand off...as long as they're weak anyway.

I think I've accidentally hobbled myself by unlocking the roll because I keep rolling instead of dodging which makes it impossible to counter the unblockables because I'm too far away.

Is there a way to quit out of a mission? I've been roped into protecting someone and I just can't do it...it's Natalya control room all over again.

Edit: Never mind. I went and had a shower, came back and managed it by the skin of my teeth. I'm trying to stick to the main missions, as per @bobontheway's suggestion, but it's really easy to end up in something else if you don't check your menu.

The Legends thing requires PS+ right? Just checking.

I've been getting really into this. I'm about to take back Shimura castle I think? In the first area of the game, I didn't really get the whole stance thing because I could get away with just parrying and hacking away, but now it's pretty much a necessity to survive and I'm constantly switching. I feel pretty much unstoppable. Kunai are very OP, plus the AI is pretty dumb and doesn't always react to dead comrades. I've not really bothered with any of the other weapons; smoke bombs, bells, stickybombs, etc. Oh, and this game reeeeally makes you hate archers, damn.

Thats what I am doing, concentrating on doing the main missions in each act, and then doing the mop up before I start the next act.  Onto the final mission on Act 2, then I will mop up the rest of the stuff in the act before starting on the main missions in Act 3

Some random thoughts on this;

My fighting strat switched completely from dodging and parrying to switching stance, mashing triangle to break their guard then mashing square to finish them off.

I never like to change from kunai and shortbow because they're so OP compared to everything else, I'm accustomed to them in desperate situations, and it's kinda finnicky to switch.

Fuck what happened to my beautiful...

Spoiler

Kage (Sora or Nobu if you have no taste). I've been lumped with a horse that looks malnourished, covered in mange, and has no saddle options. The first time I finished a mission, Jin did these "wtf" gestures towards his horse... Please tell me I'll get an official replacement soon, otherwise what is the point in collecting the banners?

Yeah I started playing this game for the first time last week on the PS5. Am halfway through Act 2 now I think and I'm thinking that in terms of gameplay this is one of the best open world games out there. It feels very GTA/RedDead with it's mission structure but even though I think RedDead2 had a better story, I think this is the better game. Same with Spiderman and even Horizon Zero Dawn. It's the closest I've come to loving an open world game since BOTW to be honest.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just received this as a gift and started playing on PS5, if I didn’t know better I’d think it was a new PS5 release, the world is stunning and beautifully realised. I’m playing on Hard in Samurai Cinema mode and it feels great, it took me a lot of restarts to get past the first Mongol leader but once the combat clicks it’s very satisfying and I like how it’s evolving over time. The wind, birds, fireflies and foxes are a nice touch and are very effective in keeping you in the world. The way the Story is presented is great and so far very compelling and if I continue to enjoy the game as I am now this will definitely be one of my favourite ever games.

I’m feeling quite spoilt with the PS5 at the moment, Astrobot, Miles, Demon’s, WRC9 and now this, good times.

I know I'm in a very small minority when I say this, but I'm not a fan of this game. I've tried to like it but just not feeling it. The graphics seem low res with a small colour palette and the shimmering collectables grate a bit. The slow, unskipable scenes are a bit of a drag also.

Only got it as otherwise my PS5 will just be gathering dust.

Lending it to my daughter before selling on.
