Anyone notice something strange about the photo below?

The guy looks to be playing a game on the C64 mini. His controller is plugged into it, but where is the power cord going into the C64 mini?, where is the cord from the C64 mini to the TV?

Now look under the TV just behind it, looks like a Rasberry Pi or similiar board, and that looks like it's plugged into the TV.

looks good to me (uridium scrolls silky smooth which often trips up emus)

Also it seems I can pre-order on amazon so no risk like there is with the kickstarter indiegogo stuff.

Also you can add your own games so no worries about the game son it (although all I will need is uridium and paradroid :D )

Preordered!

EDIT - although if zxspectrum next lives upto billing I will be able to run it as a c64 (i dont understand but you can load different cores).

Oh well we'll see whihc arrives first :D

It's probably being shown on a screen that supports 50hz.  Emus will typically run at the same rate and won't look smooth on a screen  that doesn't support PAL/50.  I used to run CCS on a PC hooked up to a CRT and it was smooth as butter but juddery on a monitor.

Said in the vid that it runs perfectly fine on 60 and 50.

Yeah, I saw the video when it went up, it confirmed they were using the Lime2 off the shelf dev board (which has a Allwinner A20 in it) that I had mentioned previously.

I really don't know why George said on facebook that it was a thec64 plugged in behind the TV.   That was clearly false. Perhaps he didn't know that the board was not actual c64 HW.

Second, when I left a comment on Geroge's video where I mentioned the Lime2 behind the TV and asked when we can see their HW running , he flagged it, so only I can see the comment. Not sure why he did that, hopefully he unflags it and we get an answer to the question

Would be great to see their actual HW running in the next video .

Is this shipping now? I saw in the Vega thread there were boxes being loaded and such.

No it's just being delivered to distributors. Expected to ship properly on 31st March.  Paul Andrews said Amazon dates are right at the moment unless something makes them ship earlier.

i have a theory: theyre shipping the units to china for completion, before they come back to Europe for distribution.

but i cant remember, from the original pi launch, if its cheaper to finish construction in th uk or abroad. that there's a tax on computers or something?

Ah - shame it's not now - that would have a made a great birthday present for my wife in early Feb. Still, good to hear it's on track.

surprised that this is going according to plan based on their main c64 project. I guess the involvment of a proper partner/distributer has kept the project on target.

My amazon order says confirmed for 29th March (having moved from 31st)

64 games and it has boulderdash now AND you can add your own games via USB stick apparently.

Bugger - Amazon won't ship one to Australia. Looks like I might need to buy it and get my sister to ship it. And she'll want to deliver it herself so I'll have to buy her a plane ticket.

This is going to cost me a fortune. Never got this with the Vega+

You may be in luck. One of the local Aussie games distributors put out a press release yesterday for it. Didn't list local pricing but had 29 March as the onsale date.

I was interested in this until I read that the keyboard on the unit is non-functional (on the official site).

If it had an actual functional c64 esque keyboard built in I would see it as worthwhile but without that it's just another lazy piece of junk hardware running an emulator in a plastic case shaped like an old console.

I don't see the appeal of that instead of using a wii or raspberry pi or nvidia shield or whatever for emulation.

There is a level of attention to accuracy or detail that would make these mini consoles more appealing to me than just running an emulator on one of the many devices capable of running a c64 rom that I have already accumulated over the years.

If they were using cloned hardware instead of software emulation and if they actually cared about things like the difference between having the keyboard on a c64 mini being a keyboard as opposed to a non functional decoration being the main 2.

Local list price is (so I'm told from their release. - it's Five Star Games, by the by, who mostly do Sega) will be $149.95 AUD. What's the UK price by way of comparison?

Current exchange rate equates to £85. Any saving from a UK-sent one would be wiped out by the postage.

Will see closer to the time.
