I guess it was compiled before ARMS was released, because that should definitely be there somewhere. Soma should be there too, and I personally don't think Tearaway belongs.

Not a single Tomb Raider game, ouch. Or Alien Isolation. WTF.

And Phantom Pain is easily top 5 material, if not top 3.

There are at least half a dozen absolute clangers in this list, embarrassing choices and some notable big omissions. It's definitely slanted towards modern games too.

All of which is to be expected, I guess.

Bayo2 is not a bad game, but the twelfth best ever? Better than SM64, than Super Metroid? Than half of the others in the list? Really?

Aside from that, it's not an awful list.

It's interesting, or odd that Halo 3 is the only Halo game in the list..and at number 39! when Halo:CE used to reign supreme in Edge's eyes.

Halo:CE is still one of the greatest videogames ever made, for me.

Also, let's be honest, as a list denoting the best games playable today, I don't think Half-life 2 deserves to be that high.

I definitely do think it should be that high, it's still one of the very best games available to play today, stated with a hearty side order of sincerity and honesty.

I was at my parents' place last night, as they'd asked me to deal with some of the stuff I'd left in their loft. Amongst which was a big stack of Edge magazines. After seeing how difficult it is to offload mags these days, they are now all destined for recycling, but I did save a single issue for nostalgic reasons, and it was the one with the big lambda on the cover. An undying love for that game is something we share.

I'm a massive fan. Closer to release I would have placed it top three easily, but having played through it again only earlier this year, I don't think it's worthy of such a high place now. Low 20's I'd say.

R-Type Final, for one. Not only is it not the best horizontal shooter, nor the best R-Type game, it's barely the best game called 'R-Type Final'!

R-Type Delta > R-Type >>>>>> R-Type III > R-Type Leo > R-Type II > R-Type Final.

Well, I'd say out of the roughly 43,000 video games ever made, and made commercially available... if you're ranking around about 22nd, you must be pretty good. ;)

I agree, last of us shouldn’t be anywhere near the top 100 for a start.

Now that is pretty odd, Halo is still very playable so should be around the top 10 for sure.

At least there is no LBP!

In an entire genre, it's not even close to being note worthy.

No Gradius V, no Ikaruga... or for my money Psyvariar 2 (probably my favourite in the Genre)

...or countless Cave shooters.

One thing that's really notable, for me at least, is the lack of modern horror games. It's one of my favourite genres and deserves some representation.

I mean there's literally two games, Dead Space and Resident Evil 4.

Alien Isolation, Soma, Resi 7, Outlast, Amnesia all notable by their absence. Edge is horror-ist! And no Silent Hill 2 :quote:

Mario Galaxy isn't there which is odd. The sequel is at number 8 but the original game is just as good if not better, perhaps they felt 2 covered both games but it feels wrong when there's chaff like Hyper Light Drifter, R-Type Final and Transistor sitting there but no Galaxy.

Is Horizon ZD really that good?

And I find it a bit weird that they've not picked Asylum as the best of the modern Batman games.  It's definitely the best.

Edge are still - sort of - going for the one game in a series thing, which I don't think is a great idea, seen as so many series' have evolved and changed. Multiple entries should be fine.

I'd have both Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid V, for example.... or Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.
