Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Yeah, they need to go back to the drawing board with the next one. Make it a true exploration game, uncovering artefacts on an open world island or something. Getting clues and maps, and following them yourself (e.g. not a pointer on a compass). A bit like Breath of the Wild perhaps; building your stamina, skills and equipment, which let you visit new areas of the map. And yeah, there's a T-Rex hidden in there somewhere.

QTEs that have me mashing a button to avoid falling rocks aren't exciting, by the way. Instead, let me spend an hour carefully traversing a snowy mountain to reach a golden goblet at the top, slowly piecing together the story of an expedition that went awry on the way up, where one false move would send me to my own death and force a reload at the very bottom.

Man, how fucking good does that sound?

Tedious. I'd break a controller in rage at that sort of bollocks.

certainly don't mean to troll and derail the thread but a lot of the requests and wants for the next one are live and present in Assassins Creed Odyssey. Although I have this, I gave up it was just so linear. Really wasn't enjoying myself attall.

Odyssey is a masterpiece and the exploration mode is superb, no hand holding puzzles and treasure you find using clues.

It’s OK, they can put checkpoints on there just for you

My version could be a survival mode difficulty. I want to feel at least some danger when I’m climbing, and a real sense of achievement when I’ve got to wherever I want to go.

To be fair it did sound good, up until the start all over again part. I don't have the patience for that.

Thats interesting. Is that different to previous Assassin’s games, then? I’ve only played a few hours of the first one, but I did but Origins last week as I fancied some more action/adventure type stuff.

It definitely wouldn’t be for everyone, but one thing Shadow of the Tomb Raider did do right was scaling the difficulty, so a checkpoint option would be fine.

I do think the ‘fall and restart instantly’ stuff has led to the level design suffering in places. There’s a bit early on in this game that has you running away from a flood, jumping on the top of cars and swinging on street lamps, and it took me about ten or fifteen times to get past one part. It turned out you had to make a pixel perfect jump to swing on something, but I started doubting if that was the right way to go after a couple of times, and tried jumping elsewhere. It was a mess.

I’d prefer a uninterrupted mountain climb to an ‘epic’ final boss battle though. Putting all of your skills to the test. A bit like the final stage in Super Mario Odyssey, or the race around the entire map in Test Drive Unlimited 2.

early on? pretty sure this part is right near the end of the game =)

But i agree, some very pixel perfect jumps required. I died a good 5-10 times.

I honestly rarely had problems on the reboot/rise so something changed here.

It was definitely near the beginning ^_^

Wouldn’t surprise me if they recycled it though (‘Exciting Flood Chase (Reprise)’).

That sounds pretty dope actually. Like the all peak run in SSX3. I fucked it several times but what a feeling when it's done.

It is now, down to $44.99 in a weekend sale but I'm not buying it digitally as will sell it on.

Oh, Amazon has steelbook for same price. Soooo tempting but surely it'll be down to $30 or less in a few more weeks for black Friday?

Whatever happens in the next one I hope they bin the voice actress. She sounds like she's on mogadon half the time in this. There was a bit where you talk to some old bloke and he said 'Don't ever lose your love for discovery and adventure' and she replied with something like 'Don't worry, I won't' with all the enthusiasm of someone deciding between different brands of tile grout at B&Q.

I've been saying she was awful since day one. How she got the job is beyond me. After Hawes brilliant performances the new lady was a terrible step backwards for the series.

I crumbled and ordered as somehow had another $10 credit on amazon. And thus ends the most boring procurement story ever.

Can't wait to play it and actually talk about  t he game! ;)

Hmm, not really feeling this so far at all. Got up to the bit where you're a kid and actually switched it off last night as it was so boring. And it's just all a bit dull. Oh dear. :(

Hoping it picks up a bit soon and was just because I was knackered. Looks ok but agree with @Capwn that the controls feel slightly off, hard to describe.

Onwards...
