Wheel of the Worst has always been the absolute dregs though, hasn't it? Compared to the normal Best of the Worst where they at least watch movies rather than a keep fit video for OAPs.

On the contrary! I’ve often found past Wheel of the Worsts to be RLM’s funniest content. With treasures like Rem Lazar and the hilariously hardcore Surviving Edged Weapons. Now though it really does feel like they’ve covered all the funny bad ones and are just down to bad bad.

There’s that one goldmine of a VHS they’ve not discovered yet. It’s out there and Mike knows it.

Mike looks like he's visibly shaking at points in that video. His voice goes higher in pitch throughout as Rich looks on sympathetically during the rants

This show is elder abuse.

We need a Sonic cycle jpg for Kurtz-Trek. Every single Discovery and Picard trailer and first episode has been met with hey this might actually be good this time before quickly revealing itself as utter dreck. Already people in the Strange New Worlds thread are going hey this one looks like it might be good despite the fact that its the baby of uber-hack Akiva Goldsman.

Strange New Worlds does have a couple of things going for it. Mount's Pike was a cool character, and one of the few good things about Discovery's second season. I think it's going for a more traditional story of the week format too, although I may have made this up.

None of this means it will be any good of course.

Spoiler

That cut one minute and 12 seconds in, omg

Edit: also I was on tenderhooks for what Star Trek reference Mike would shoehorn in and it didn't disappoint.

I sometimes get nostalgic for The Day After Tomorrow

Spoiler

I saw it in the cinema, and at the "running away from the cold" scene I was laughing so hard I had to be escorted out of the theatre.

  • 2 weeks later...

Despite having seen the boys and knowing and recognising Jack Quaid as a new actor person, i didn't realise he was the son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid until bothering to look him up on imdb.

I'm almost, I dunno, impressed somehow that such huge stars have such a normal seeming child.

I know I shouldn't be and there are clearly lots of them just by virtue of numbers of people but I just thought he was a random actor. I don't know what I'm talking about now but well done them I suppose.

It was also extremely impressive that

Spoiler

They got an actor on that stars in a Star Trek series and Mike didn't shoehorn in any Star Trek references. I kept waiting for one and it never came... Superb trolling.

Spoiler

That reference to Stand By Me is probably the most astute thing I've seen about the show so far, and it applies to so much nostalgia bait these days. So much now that even excitedly hatewatching something thinking it'll be hilarious actually just ends up being horrible and sad in the end.

Anyone else find Wil Wheaton really creepy? That staring smile.....eesh.

Indeed. You can always tell when someone is faking enthusiasm to that extent because it feels oddly brittle; as though the wrong word or reaction from a guest could bring it all crashing down.
