Motorspot chat - No dull F1 though

I never had a problem with Nascar's lack of tech, it's not the point of the series so I'm not sure changing for what has a nasty tendancy to be change's sake (they will still be incredibly low tech compared to road cars) feels like it might be a mistake just as they implied in the article.

Monaco is a very different prospect when you have cars that can race each other isn't it?

And that's all I'll say other than watch the Formula e race if you can, ideally without knowing the results.

I just watched it in full, absolutely outstanding. First FE race that I enjoyed on merit instead of for slapstick. The cars really suit this track don’t they. I’m glad they ran the proper layout, it immediately elevated the circuit over any previous iteration. I’m not sure what they’ve done with nouvelle chicane though? Is that permanent for F1 too?

I'll second the quality that was the FE race at Monaco. You can overtake round there, just as long as you don't run massively complex aero....

No, but maybe they should consider it.

The cynic in me says it was just to make 1 tiny change to stop lap time comparisons.

Just caught up on the FE race. What a race! Loved it. General sentiment seems a bit down on it on here? But this is the most I've ever followed FE this season and I've been really enjoying it. 7 different winners from 7 races is that now? I like the mix of genuinely good racing like yesterday, and the shambolic chaos of something like Valencia :)

Edit: just watched [REDACTED] jump into the pool. Great stuff.

Glickenhaus down to 1 for Portimao and probably 0 for the non-Europe races but they'll totally have 2 at Monza and LeMans you guys.

Given their LeMans entry is on the basis of a full season WEC entry, at what point does it start to be awkward they still have it?  If they allow this then anyone who wants a LeMans entry just has to pay FIA for the formal full season WEC entry and never turn up to the...less profitable.... races.

It definitely has a "Nissan LMP1" vibe about it doesn't it? With even less money, if that's possible.

They'll arrive in Le Mans, tool round at the back of the LMP2s, bust into flames at 7pm on Saturday then claim they've run out of money and wave goodbye to the series.

So far, I've been massively underwhelmed.

Porsche Super Cup at Monaco.

Cara are in the pit Lane following a lap one multi car...

shot of one car being lifted off the track looks like cgi 🤔

Senior Rotax (aka bloody quick karts) final at Whilton Mill in the midlands.

It's damp and drying.  33 drivers put on slicks. 1, starting 26th sticks on wets because why the fuck not.

Related to that I hate that whatever TV deal they have this season is way worse than last. Not only is it still not on television but you are now required to watch qualifying on iPlayer in the lowest bit rate they can get away with for it to technically count as a broadcast and the youtube channel doesn't upload full race replays anymore. Fuck off BBC, just put this series on Twitch and be done with it.

Really?  FE is now almost the easiest motor sport to watch for me. It's gone from virtually impossible / missing most races to simultaneously broadcast live on 3 channels (red button / iPlayer, Eurosport 2, Quest HD) with at least 2 of them having catch up (on Sky anyway) and at least 1 also having a highlights show.

Sorry I'm about a month late, but feel I should make my FE views be known :hat:

FE has had some weird things to try and make it more current (remember the race long DJ), and Fan Boost is a stupid / unfair (it goes to series / F1 veterans / familiar names, more than those who do better engagement) but Attack Mode is a great thing, much like Push to Pass in Indy car, and combined with the energy saving / regen efficiency.

I think it brings a great sense of strategy and that, combined with close racing and overtaking really makes it a series worth watching, especially as we see them using more real tracks.  The Monaco race was wonderful.  We all moaned about Valencia race 1, but it was simply the teams taking a gamble, and miscalculating by a few seconds, some teams didn't and their strategy paid off.  The crazy chicane was crap, but I really don't mind that they weren't racing on the same tracks a F1, we see those enough, stick them on the short RBR, or Oulton Park, or Magny Cours, or Jerez, or one of the other thousands of tracks that F1 don't visit.  We don't need another F1 follower single seater series, we have F2 and 3 for that.

I think they need to make more of the regen, make it more visible somehow, perhaps a light on top that changes from green through orange / red, or perhaps just a TV graphic, something more than "this car is accelerating / braking / regen" More of a this car is on a push / this car is energy saving sort of thing.

I think the cars are plenty quick enough.  I don't watch BTCC and moan about them being too slow.  I do watch FE and like seeing the cars squirming around on their basically road tyres, and I'm going to go out there and say I think they sound great.  You can tell when the driver is wringing it's neck, the car is screaming away, the tyres are screeching, you can hear them bouncing of kerbs, scraping walls etc. and of course, I'm someone who owns one of the finest sounding V8s ever made.

It also runs when other series don't.

In the past 3 seasons, for me FE has gone from a nice way to kill a couple of hours to, I'm genuinely disappointed if I forget it (though I still record and watch weeks later, which is part of why I avoid this thread!)

That Monaco race should be the break out event for FE. It showed exactly what it can be.

And I liked the Valencia race, it highlighted the very real need for teams to read the rulebook before each race.

Is there an exstream e race this weekend?

Possibly, the only story I'd seen was Button giving up his car and hiring someone who might know what they're doing off road.

I saw that, and no context was provided anywhere. Did he embarrass himself or something?

Not really but there's some good specialists in other cars and they beat exactly no-one who hadn't totalled their car in round 1.

They're painting it as temporary but he's hired the other hanson brother. I forget which is the really good one but both are World class Rallycrossers.

The only racing worth watching is on youtube now. Gt world challenge.

Or it would be worth watching if they throw both commentators in the sea, especially that cunt Watson.

He has a rant about cyclists halfway through the race where he appears to be proud he stopped to yell at them despite being entirely in the wrong himself and spends the rest of the race interrupting Addison to be wrong. Although Addison himself complained about cyclists doing the safest thing because he doesn't understand physics.

And then when Watson is talking he takes longer to get to the (usually fucking obvious) point than Grampa Simpson does.  There's a reason that by his age, Murray had decided to retire. And Murray had talent to begin with.

Brutal, and as an ex cyclist who dislikes all the stuff that cyclists do wrong even I was sitting there thinking 'shut the fuck up'

The grandpa simpson comparison is frighteningly accurate.....

Yeah, there are many fucking stupid things some cyclists do. (let's ignore that all drivers are perfect here) but they gave 2 examples, 1 was legal and 1 was actively the smartest thing to do.
