The Deuce - HBO & David Simon do 70's porn.

HBO has released a brief The Deuce trailer. The new series from David Simon (The Wire) stars James Franco as both Vincent Martino, a struggling bartender, and Frankie Martino, his ne’er-do-well brother. The Martinos were key players in Times Square who became involved with the mob by providing fronts for the sex industry’s early days.

It’s hard to get a grasp on all of the players from this brief teaser, but I suspect that at least on a surface level, it will be like most other HBO dramas: big cast, it drops you in the middle of the action and expects you to keep up, and top-notch production value. Sometimes that leads you to something like Game of Thrones and The Sopranos; other times it leads you Vinyl. That being said, I think Simon’s going to be a big draw here as the pedigree of The Wire has only increased over time. The titillating subject matter should also be draw and also meet HBO’s demand for gratuitous nudity.

This could be something fantastic. David Simon is enough of a draw for me.

Watched the first episode, quite nicely put together. Then I sort of just forgot about it. Is there still only 2 episodes? Seems like ages ago since I watched the first.

Spoiler

Seeing Maggie G on her knees getting covered in (fake) cum by men in Viking hats must go down as one of the more unexpected sights on TV

...How can I not tune in for more.

First episode was pretty good, not much story yet but a nice intro to the main characters and the setting.

Had a bit of a Vinyl vibe about it, but much more down and dirty. Franco was surprisingly decent in it. Some good casting for sure. Bites off Taxi Driver - which if you gonna do that then great film to pick, plenty of Iceberg Slim too.

I just realized just how much I like James Franco. I've only seen him in Spider man prior to this, and obviously that was a rubbish role. Hes talented, and I would love to see him get some larger roles in some larger films.

Watch Spring Breakers. That's some good Franco. Looking forward to seeing him in The Disaster Artist as well.

Just watched episode 4 on nowtv, this is shaping up very nicely. Best HBO thing for me since The Night Of*. How many episodes in the first season?

* I'm classing this and The Night Of as real life stories, GoT gets a different classification round my TV watching group**

**That's a group consisting of me and me alone.

yeah it's brilliant, the pimps are such a shower of cunts but played so well that you could almost forget it and start to root for them. Larry (who I just realised is Chris from the Wire, holy shit!) in particular just makes me laugh with his big glum face
