The worst sub plot was the one where her husband left so she developed a gambling problem then owed the casino five grand so she had to become a mud wrestler but I guess that paid off all the debts and then her husband came back so let’s forget about that.

They do seem to have all the depth and follow through of a special message episode of Saved by the Bell.

Best series so far I think, so many great episodes in this. I loved the leeway the location gave for adding even more flavour into the soup.

More than a bit silly to try to pick holes in the plot lines though - the show has always thrown in a mish mash of paper thin plots and motivations to fluff the main arcs, such as they are. You either like it for what it is, or you don’t.

I think this season has been less about the wrestling and more about the characters having meaningful conversations. I'm only up to episode 7 but I think it's shaping up to be the best of the three seasons so far. But it isn't the most fun.

It’s weirdly balanced. There’s interesting stories that get brushed over in favour of whole episodes that are focused on things I’m less interested in.

Yeah, it was great, but some of the OTT Vegas stuff wasn't to my taste, and they made Bash a real dickhead this season. At least in the previous seasons he was a likeable dickhead.

He might have been an arsehole this season, but his reaction to the magician waiter at the restaurant compared to everyone else at the table was incredible.

I'm up to episode 5 and it's just a delight. It's got a lot of that stuff the best parts of Orange is the New Black had: showing how much untapped potential there is in having well-written women characters in unusual situations.

The one show I've seen in ten years where I've wished there were double the number of episodes :)

Watched season one ages ago and never got around to watching two, so I’ve watched two and three over the past couple of weeks. Absolutely loved it. Really like loads of characters, particularly Sam. I still like Bash too, but not too keen on the direction they are taking him.

Seem to have rekindled my love for Alison Brie.

I hate that the

Yes.

They were making out that

both people were too independent, smart and modern to fall into old-fashioned mentor/student romantic tropes.

Then they do.

I also actually like the Bash stuff

He's the reason GLOW happened. If he remained a benign, smiling, relentlessly positive presence with infinity money, he's just a dumb deus ex machina for any dramatic moments. Make him fallible and afraid and he's not longer that.

I thought they were doing a real good job of highlighting how often

Spoiler

mediocre men often seem to act entitled to women and women’s bodies, especially as some sort of reward for doing the minimum. You had this mess of a man seeing himself as being a viable partner for a vibrant young talented woman and not understanding why she wasn’t interested. And then suddenly she’s interested.

What the fuck?

With the third series now available, I realised that I hadn't even started the second series, despite enjoying the first one.  So I started to watch the second series, I'm about 5 episodes in and I'm struggling with it. While it's a decent program, it really feels like total background television. Something to have on while you're doing something else (like browsing this forum..).

The episodes meander along, there's the odd bit of drama and the 80s aesthetics looks great, but I'm ending up not caring about what happens. Maybe it's because in the first series they had something to prove, there was more at stake, the characters were setup well with interesting back stories and that seems to be missing from the second series.

Stick with it - S03 is the best season by a considerable margin, and worth getting to :)

While this is true, @gone fishin' shouldn’t expect anything different from S2 in terms of the ‘issues’ they identified above.

GLOW is a solid show, with some great bits in, but it’s really just delicious fluff.

I'm enjoying season 3 more than season 2 so far as well. Not sure what it was about season 2  as I did still mostly enjoy it but it felt a bit like treading water, hitting a lot of the same beats as season 1. While season 3 focuses a lot less on the wrestling, it feels like being in Vegas has given the writers a big new toybox to play with.

I’m really disliking season 3 intensely, one of the characters said in ep4 ‘theres no storyline anymore’ and it felt like it could be applied to the whole show.

its going down that dire comedy skit feel thing Orange is the new black did and there’s no cohesion to it.

everybody seems to be an arsehole, many of them were before, but there is nothing to root for anymore.

After loving the first two series, I jacked in series 3 about halfway through. It just didn't feel like the same programme any more, it was nowhere near as funny as it was, and it felt like they were trying to lure viewers back through various flimsy excuses to have the cast take their tops off.

Mine was when

she ate a burger then as the episode ended she was forcing herself to be sick in the toilet and its never brought up again.

I hated this season with a passion.

I was certain that they were setting up some subplot around Bash being a closeted homosexual at the end of series 2. Did they do anything with that? It looked like he was having a great time with Kate Nash.

Well pleased we get another season.  Gives them the chance to properly wrap it up without outstaying it’s welcome.  Well played Netflix.:hat:
