No doubt Joshua is praying to the boxing gods that Fury has actually retired! Tyson would shatter him into a million pieces after playing around with him for a bit. It would be embarrassing and a big come down after all the build up and hype, Whilst Usyk has the technical ability to match Fury, he simply doesn’t have the size or the power to actually stop him. Any of the big shots Wilder landed on Tyson would put Joshua and Usyk into space. 😂

 

Way I see it is, the only realistic fight left now, that is credible and holds weight, is Usyk vs Fury within the next year. Have always said Usyk is his only real threat, on points.  If Joshua somehow beats Usyk though (🤣😂🤣) then there will be a rematch. It could then be another 2yrs before either are free to fight Fury. Tyson doesn’t need the money. He’s got nothing left to prove. He’s No.1. The best of his era. No doubt left in anyone’s mind now other than the most casual of casual boxing fans.

 

Fight I’d really like to see now after Usyk schools Joshua again, is Wilder vs Joshua. Wilder’s  big right hand straight down the pipe. Aj’s legs would be disco dancing while he’s fully stretched out. 😂

What a devastating upper cut, it was fast but like the best punches seemed quite effortless and smooth.

 

I recall the early days of Tyson Fury on ch5 or ITV2 quite well, the stage he was fighting in leisure centres - it was around 2009/10 and I had a year off work, was training at the local gym/tennis centre and used to talk all the time to an old boy who was an ex army PT coach and had worked with the British Olympic teams coaching amateur boxing and swimming. 

 

I used to laugh at Fury for being too big, looking sloppy and not punching very hard, I vividly recall saying Horace Notice or Gary Mason would have beaten him (old sub Bruno Terry Lawless HWs) but the old boy would have none it and told me he was technically brilliant and going to go all the way. 

 

History has proven one of us right.

Hopefully he fights AJ and/or Usyk. 

 

Both are far more interesting fights. The Ngannu fight can fuck off. If he truly wants to become the best of all time that he thinks he is (he isn't, nowhere near) then he needs to have the legacy fights.

Good lord no. If he retires without fighting either of those two then it’s a huge question mark on his legacy. He doesn’t need both, just the winner of the rematch, but there are four heavyweights who define the era of the millennials and Fury has only fought one of them.

Any list would probably need to include Joe Louis, Ali, Larry Holmes, Lewis, Jack Johnson, Holyfield (Yup, even at heavyweight), Foreman, Liston, Marciano and probably Frasier.

 

I personally wouldn't put Mike Tyson in the top ten. He had immense potential and achieved a lot in a short space of time, but mostly squandered his talent and came up short against elite fighters like Lewis and Holyfield.

I agree that he didn’t fulfil his potential, but I think he’d shot his bolt partying and drugtaking by the time he was fighting Holyfield and Lewis. Personally think he was done as soon as he fired Kevin Rooney. A Rooney-trained Mike before he fell in with Don King and his cronies would have taken Holyfield, and possibly Lewis as well. As good as Lennox could be, he had quite a few off-days.

Bivol beats Canelo unanimously on points.   I love what Canelo has been doing these last couple of years, he’s without doubt a hall of famer who has taken fights you just don’t see ‘protected’ fighters take.  He could sell out a stadium and do gangbusters on PPV defending against hand picked contenders but he’s going up the divisions.  Perhaps light heavy is just too much for a 5’8” middleweight to hang, but hats off for trying.

Full credit to Canelo. At this point in his career he could have fought anyone and he was probably due an easy fight. But to take on an absolute beast at 175 in Bivol is hugely commendable and probably one of the hardest fights he could have chosen.

 

I thought Bivol would win this. He's just immense. He's not flashy, but he does the fundamentals incredibly well and he's so disciplined and measured. Canelo looked exhausted after seven rounds but that was partly down to the pressure that Bivol put him under. He was outboxed and even beaten on the inside at times too. I'm sure weight played a role to some extent as it really looked like Bivol could walk through Canelo's punches, but I really think it was primarily down to Bivol just outboxing Canelo.

 

In an alternate reality, this is the fifth time Canelo has lost. He's been a fairly fortunate fighter with decisions at times.

People tend to forget that Mike Tyson was more than a heavy hitter, he also had really good defense. Fighters that rely on offense often lacks defense, but Tyson had it all. In his prime, I'd say Tyson is arguably the best boxer that has ever lived. When Tyson fought Lewis and Holyfield, he was already struggling with drug abuse and mental illness. If you read the guys history, is a real tragedy.

I'm guessing your saying prime Tyson is pre prison. The same Tyson who was knocked out by Buster Douglas and stunk the place out vs journeymen Tony Tucker and Bonecrusher Smith ? Your saying that was the greatest boxer of all time ?

 

He isn't even close to the best heayweight imo let alone greatest boxer. Most overrated all time, he probably wins that.

Tyson was phenomenal for 3 or 4 years, but I can't see any convincing argument that he was the best boxer ever.  He wasn't the best boxer of the 80s (Hagler/Hearns/Leonard say hello) and at heavyweight he's a guy who lost to his most talented peers (Holyfield/Lewis).   Muhammad Ali stands alone for me as the GOAT in heavyweight terms,  obviously it's hard to compare eras and he might have struggled to deal with absolute monsters like Lennox Lewis or Tyson Fury, but does anybody have a CV that can compete with Ali?   The guy beat genuine Hall of Fame boxers like  Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Joe Frazier, George Foreman & Ken Norton and he lost the prime years of his career (25-28) because America invaded Vietnam.   

 

In more recent news, it's fairly well known that Julius Francis works the door at BoxPark in Wembley: 

 

 

Turns out power is the last thing to go.   Bandana man found out the hard way that a guy who shared the ring with Tyson and Klitschko isn't going to be intimidated by a dickhead on Wembley Way.
