The Golf Club 2

Four rounds in its much, much improved on the originals hit the fairway everytime then dial a shot in. A slow swing will see it go way off to the right, fast makes it go left. Nail a perfect/perfect and you're rewarded.

No more huge loft box so you could hit a 3i 150yards with no roll. Driving is hard, as it should be. Putting is about the same, slight tweaks. Chipping is a cunt as the shortest chip you have is 12y so have to partial swing. Lofting is hard as fuck, go too fast and you skull the ball and it takes off like a missile.

I'm playing on Tour clubs, not gone over par yet. Driving is a git, but very satisfying to play on what is technically 'hard' difficulty.

Very much impressed.

This is easily the best game of golf I've ever played in a videogame. The bounces, the hooks and slices, the way the ball rolls, the wind, the lie of the ball hampering your shot (if you're on a downhill lie it takes distance off, distance on if uphill).

Slowly mastering the tour swing, can get perfect/perfect tempo with the line in the cone now. Still hook/slice a little. Went -30 through four rounds on St Andrews earlier in 12mph+ winds.

HB have nailed it now the servers work.

Its glorious when you nail a Tour club drive:

I've been hovering over the buy button since it came out but have been waiting for a variety of opinions to come in. No offence to you @Dark Soldier but weren't you on the top of some leaderboards for Trials? I think it's fair to say that your skill level is way, way beyond mine!

I think I might do it though. I'm willing to take one for the Rllmuk cack-handed team.

It's fantastic but if you'd prefer Everybody's stick with that. I've put in about 120 hours so far, almost mastered the hardest swing. EG is more casual fun.

Reviews aren't great as launch was a clusterfuck, tbh. A lot better now.

It ruddy well isn't ;)

I keep being tempted by TGC2 as I did like the first. Everybody's Golf is my must buy for August, but may dip into this when it hits a sale.

Heh yeah when I properly get into a game I want to get very good at it. Put enough time into this to be able to hit -9 or better most times with the hardest clubs. For the first three months of the first one I was lucky to hit par :D

I played a round when it first came out and did badly. Then I played a round a few nights ago and was well under par. Playing on the medium difficulty and I think a fair bit easier course second time round. It's not impossible or anything, anyway.

I'd get Everybody's if I had a PS4, loved that on PS3. Plays some pretty convincing golf beneath the cutesy graphics.

Has anybody sunk a considerable amount of time into both this and Everybody's Golf?

I don't doubt that EG is far better, mechanically, but I do like the idea of customisation and replay value for this. I think I'll jump in for around £12 anyway but I'm not really sure what kind of community, if any, still plays this.

Got my copy of TGC2 today and spent the whole evening playing a few rounds. It's exactly what I wanted in a golf game: uncomplicated, replayable, and most importantly whilst my first rounds were absolutely shocking I know that with some practice that'll improve, it's not unfair in that regard. The commentator got turned off straight away, he was getting right on my wick. I just picked a couple of the HB-designed courses to get started - they all seem to be labelled "hard" or "hardest" for some reason. Looks good, controls well. Yeah, need to really practice putting in particular, having difficulty reading the greens but I'm getting there. Driving and recovery are fine, selecting shots, clubs and spin just works, no fannying about.

I bought this last year and bounced straight off it,i think it was the fact i loved everybody's golf and spent so much time on it on the ps4, everything felt off about this when i finally got round to playing this.

The greens felt like ice if i remember correctly

If you havnt played eg on the ps4 then you should get that over this.

Apparently the golf club 2019 plays a lot better and has official tournaments but gc2 has really put me off trying it.

Did you try it @smithstock? Hes the real golf pro,he knows his shit.

I think it's excellent.  The chipping is probably the hardest bit, the shots seem to always go longer than expected.  The swing has a real good feel to it using the sticks on the controller, just feels natural. The options now when setting up a lobby if you want to play a friend are so much better than before. Only concern is that there have been hardly any patches so I am not sure how much support the developers are giving the title.

Haven't played it yet man, I have my reservations. It looks devoid of any kind of personality and the gameplay doesn't look as refined as EG, that being said, I'll jump in for around the £15 mark. Hit me up if you do too!

EDIT: Currently £16 at Base.com!

First impressions:

- I love the putting which is all FEEL and so satisfying when you sink a long put.

- graphics are a bit flat and lack any real atmosphere or nuance. It feels like a golf constructors set, which I guess is what it really is.

- I love the way the ball bounces and rolls, feels very realistic.

- I like that the short game is quite hard to master (indeed, I find I have to club up to get anywhere near the pin).

- Though I like the more realistic approach to the mechanics of golf,  the presentation is perfunctory - it could do with an injection of colour, energy and pizzazz.

- I'm really enjoying this after a couple of quick rounds but I'm not sure if there's enough motivation to keep me playing long term. Which brings me to my final question for anyone who's played this a lot:

*Other than bringing down your own handicap what's the best mode or feature to keep coming back? Everything feels a bit lacking in terms of career challenges.*

I always mention TGCTours. I've finished playing TGC as I hammered it over 3 years and got to an elite level, but without TGCTours I'd have put about a month into it max.

My thoughts, just in case @Theholyhogg, @PeteBrant and @DC Lemon were thinking of investing...

It's completely and utterly lifeless, devoid of personality and lacking in any real charisma. It comes across that way from the outside and it's actually worse whilst playing; the commentary is stale and the graphics are really mediocre too.

Gameplay wise, I'm not a fan of the mechanics but I can understand why people like them. I much prefer the timing based system of EG, and I even struggled to get to grips with that after the change from the Vita version. If there was an alternative mode or system, I might have invested more time getting used to it - I'm not a huge fan of analogue or gauging based mechanics outside of Trials or Worms.

Everything else seems to be par for the course (pun intended) lots of customisation and level editing features but ultimately locked behind game modes that are neither enticing or engaging to play which is a shame because the Tour is a big draw for me.

Everybody's Golf though, still, is not only the best golf game going but is one of the best sports games I've played this generation - up there with Rocket League. It's a shame then, that the PGA license is actually even less of a draw for me, given that everything in EG feels tactile and satisfying - it just ultimately lacked features and post launch support.
