Saving my first ever playthrough for Halloween. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

Mine might be here by then, Limited Run take sodding ages to get them made and then posted, never played it before though, quite looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about :p

So theres a great deal of nostalgia here and at the heart of this is a game that is pretty bad, but the new thumbnails make a massive impact on the gameplay. In fact, it actually creates gameplay where there was none before.  You get all 8 video screens as thumbnails, turning the game into more of an arcade reaction test. If you see an ogger in one of the rooms switch to it quickly and try and trap it.  I'm really enjoying this.

Can you save progress on this?

There is a continue option on the main menu on the Switch, but if you pause when playing there are only options to resume or quit. I’ve barely played this version yet, so I don’t know if it has checkpoints or lets you save when further in.

Did anyone get the switch limited run version?

I've ordered it, it will be quite the long wait for it though, I've got every Switch release they've done so far and the only one delivered as of right now is Thimbleweed Park, and that was the first, think their current one is #11, so I've a fair few in the chamber.

I've got both the standard and the collectors ed's coming.

Aye, you can't save midway, but its very doable. You need a pen and paper though unless you have an amazing memory.

Obviously recording the rooms and timings is straightforward for activating traps, but how do you deal with the randomisation of the codes? I haven’t played since ‘93 but really want to do a perfect game to unlock Scene of the Crime.

You just have to keep a note of when your traps dont work any more and try to spot rooms with the actors having conversations before that.  The animated thumbnails make this doable, and also makes you wonder how anyone was meant to play this game back in 1993. It would surely be impossible on the originals.

Also,  I being thick? The very second the game starts there are three possible oggers and theres only two in the hallway. Every time I start I'm missing one the very second it begins.

Maybe youre the ogger?

I’m just surprised that the walkthroughs I’ve looked at, including the one you linked to in the eShop thread, note when the codes change, don’t include which room to listen in on to find the new one. Guess I’ll have to do make my own notes.

As for completing the original, God knows. Does anyone else recall getting the free little paperback walkthrough with either Mega Power or Sega CD Pro?

I’ve noticed that too, but but it evens itself up after you catch the auger in the bathroom at around the 45 seconds mark.

The first code change is in the entry way at 5.40, could have sworn that was in the walkthrough. I'm determined to finish this. Also I switched on the TV this morning and the Youview box went straight to the menu, making Frasier look a lot like Night Trap, or maybe I've been playing it too much.

  • 4 weeks later...

Made some changes to the above guide, even though no-one else is playing the truly marvellous game.  Today I got to 45/45 Auggers trapped when the audio went out of sync with the clips and the guys that change the trap colours were speaking in women's voices.

Thanks for the reminder, im going to play this again now. It's a very silly game, to do this by trial and error needs a pen and paper and takes ages. Imagine actually playing it that way in 1994.  Still love it though.
