What Remains of Edith Finch

Sorry, but I really didn't like this. I didn't hate it either, but it felt so nicey nicey, artsy fartsy, made for yummy mummies. I felt bored for the most part. I think I just don't like walking simulators that much. Only Firewatch has made me think the genre has some worth so far.

I definitely get where sandman's coming from, I cringe at these kind of games too sometimes. Anyway everyone's entiled to their opinon and I'd rather hear those than an echo chamber of how great a game is.

For me in Edith Finch the unexpected was what kept it interesting, and the imagination of many of the little scenes made me happy. I don't mind walking simulators as long as they have an immersive world.

Compare this to Everyone's Gone to the Rapture - I really liked that, but Edith was much more fun. More emphasis on gameplay and ideas, less on walking/exploration.

artsy fartsy

I always imagine people who use this phrase to be some of the most unfortunate people on the planet.

Imagine writing something off for being artistic? Or even just attempting to be?

I get why people may not like it, but having a pop at it because you see it as 'arty' or you think it's aimed at a specific group of people is a bit much. And is generalising massively. It tries to do something a bit different, but it may not be to everyone's tastes.

I agree you've found the highpoint but when you come to do another one in December, Gone Home is a glaring omission from your list, especially if you enjoyed Edith.

Noticed that was missing myself! Gone Home really paved the way, it's amazing how many themes and motifs from that pop up in the later games.

Also Everybody's Gone to The Rapture should be on the list.

Go for Gone Home, takes approx 2 hours from start to finish.

I’d like to joke that it takes 2 hours before something interesting happens in EGTTR but I’d be lying. Spoiler: nothing happens.

I was going to give you a salty tear until this. I’ll have you know it was equally enjoyable looking like shit and smelling like vinegar. Shame upon your stereotyping.
