What Remains of Edith Finch

I got about, I guess, halfway through - subsequently tried to reload but in my save I'm stuck in a bedroom between a chair and a rope barrier. Seemingly no way to exit so assume it's a bug. Anyway to reload an old save or am I going to have to start again?

This makes me happy. I'm always afraid of overhyping things so I am seriously worried someone will come back and voice disappointment, but if you think Edith Finch is disappointing there is clearly something wrong with you, so I don't care.

Well you hyped it to me and I bought it as a direct consequence of that.

It's taken 37 years but finally a video game made me cry.  I actually wasn't fond of the first story (Molly) but I am very, very glad I persevered.

Analysis from Joseph Anderson.

Only watch if you've completed it.

This is very interesting too, I agree, start around halfway when the guy finishes the actual playthrough and starts talking about what's going on.

Since it was released on Xbox I've also bought it on there, so I can make lots of people play it when they visit :D my bestie played halfway through it and then we had to stop, but she already messaged me that she can't wait to come back and finish it.  :omg:

Played through in one sitting tonight when the Mrs was out babysitting for a friend.

I'd previously baulked at 16 quid for a couple of hours (despite the praise) but something was drawing me to it every couple of weeks so I decided to take a punt.

There's not much I can add, I absolutely loved it and haven't had this kind of connection to a game since The Last of Us.

I played this on Saturday night with a friend and his wife, taking turns to play a story and it probably took us 4 hours to complete - pretty well mesmerized the entire time.  Soaking up the story and enjoying the frequent changes in delivery.  Still taking it in but am happy to say its a masterpiece!

4 hours? I think i got through it in about 90 minutes. Loved it but very very short.

One of them is a non gamer so a lot of staring at things while she got the hang of it! (invert helped)

plus toilet, beer and smoke breaks and general saturday night chat and laughing.. Was great though!

Fair play! I would love to see more games like this although i do wish the story was perhaps not some ambiguous.

I'd guess you must have missed a lot of stuff though. I watched someone play it for about 120 minutes IIRC, and they rushed past a lot of stuff.

I took 3.6 hours according to Steam, and even I missed a few things here and there but I did take my time and took it all in.

Yeah had a quick look at the achievements afterwards and missed loads of those, id be tempted to replay with my wife in control and nudge her towards the achievements and get to pay a little more attention to the story.

This is a third off on Steam (and is only staying that way for the next 20 hours!) so I nabbed it and finished it in an evening. Utterly astonishing game. I don't think I've ever been so consistently surprised. More people need to play this!

This is half price on PSN just now, so like 7 quid or something. Defintiely worth it for that price!

Just whisked through the game for the first time today, taking maybe 3 hours. Really good. I was expecting a kind of depressing slow paced walking simulator, with lots of exploring, emotions and sadness like Firewatch, Gone Home, Everyones Gone to the Rapture, etc (all of which I like but kind of fatigued by these now).

But what I got instead was completely unexpected and a breath of fresh air for the genre! After the first 10/15 minutes is out the way, so much imagination is on show, and some of the stories are just brilliantly done, using really clever techniques and ideas you could only see in a game. The whole thing feels like Big Fish or something. Great stuff and although its short I couldn't put it down because I always wanted to see what was coming next, both with the vignettes and learning about the family members. I didn't really find it that sad or that emotional compared to some other games in the genre and to be honest I liked that about it. It has a much more positive and lively vibe than a lot of other games like this, despite the subiect matter. It was a really nice tale. I also like that the house has a lot of detail to examine but its not vital to the story, so you don't feel obliged to painstakingly examine everything - but you do, you get a bit more sense of the characters if you do.

My fave stories were -

Lewis in the cannery, very cool how the two worlds collide and the fantasy one gets more and more detailed. All with a sense of dread that you are about to chop something off in real life! Molly, the first story, which was so unexpected and completely blew my expectations for the game, first turning into a cat but eventually a shark rolling down a hill (!) and then this awesome creepy tentacle monster! Calvin and the swing, so short but so effective, you really feel the vertigo and the music builds up as you go on, its a beautiful scene. Gregory in the bath, what a riot and manages not to be really grim even though its a baby dying! And a nod to Barbaras comic strip, where the controllable panels really wowed me, no idea how they did it!

Wish we found out more about Edies death and her visit to the old house in the sea. The whole ending felt a bit rushed and it was a real shame as I was expecting a longer game sequence for the end. Mind you Lewis is right near the end and that's the best bit any way.

Also does anyone know what happened to Milton? I read he is actually in the previous game about paintings that the studio made, is that right?

Overall one of my fave walking simulators ever, the genre is getting a bit tired now so this was the new twist I was looking for. Hoping to see something equally imaginative and surprising for their next game!
