Christina Hodson, who wrote the upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, has been tapped to pen a new script featuring Barbra Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon.

Quote

Hodson wrote the 2017 Warner Bros. thriller Unforgettable, which starred Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl, and has been a player in a couple of writers rooms, for Transformers(which led to her nabbing the Bumblebee gig) and Ology, the franchise Paramount is developing based on the YA fictional encyclopedias from Templar Publishing.

Hodson has already written the Batgirl character, having helped to develop a feature project based on the all-female crime-fighting group Birds of Prey.

It was announced back in July that Leslie Grace landed the role of the Barbara Gordon incarnation of Batgirl. In The Heights seems to be her only previous acting job but she apparently got praise for that. And now Brendan Fraser has been cast as a villain. Not confirmed, but thought to be Firefly.

she’s ok as Nina in In The Heights. It is a musical though, so a different sort of acting/overacting.

Well this is weird. I mean, if they want to just bury it it's not like they don't have a streaming service to dump it on.

It was originally meant to be an HBO Max exclusive, ironically. Is this the most expensive movie ever to be shelved?

Put in to hibernation after filming but before most of the post-production and VFX I guess? If it was finished they’d release it to recoup what they can but there must be a lot of money still unspent.

It sounds like it started off as high-end straight-to-video but there aren’t enough HBO Max subscribers to justify the budget. Yet it must also not have high enough production values to credibly polish up release in cinemas.

Wonder if they’ll revive it once the streaming market picks up again.

The cynic in me suspects this might be a ploy to get a social media campaign going calling for the film’s release and then WB will release it in theatres to capitalise on the hype.

there’s apparently a merger related tax write off deadline in mid August, so unlikely.
