Xbox 360 Appreciation Thread

This thread made me get my matt black 360 slim 4Gb + 500Gb HD down from the loft after 2 years in storage for some Forza 4 and NFS MW!

Not sure I want to go down the 360 wheel route as I tried it years ago and couldn't get on with it but I could desk mount it now...

All working apart from 3 official rechargeable batteries which all seem to have died and wont charge in the dock. Any way to revive them or an alternative that would charge in the dock?

Picked up Forza 4 again which is probably my personal fav out the series. Again plays great with force feedback.

Seems fairly common, this. It's definitely where the series peaked, for me and I've seen a good few people say the same.

And yes, it's particularly good with a wheel.

It's just a shame you can't get the dlc anymore. Unless, like me, you have a modded 360. The Porsche pack is really worth having.

If you crack them open they’re literally just rechargeable AA batteries inside. There is a way to ‘reset’ them, something about how you touch the ends but most likely they’re just dead at this point.

Yeah 4 had a great balance of real tracks and fantasy tracks, like Amalfi coast and fujimi kado point to point races. All the Forza after 4 felt kinda dull afterwards. Can't say I'm that excited with what I've seen of the new series x/s one either.

With all the Arcade racers at your disposal, well worth picking a wheel up. They don't break the bank either. Best Daytona USA experience out of all the formats to.

I had the urge to play the original Forza Horizon yesterday.

What a game that is.

It looks absolutely amazing. No, it's not attempting photorealism like more modern entries in the series, but it has a fantastic style to it. And the world it's in is really well done with lots of variation in quite a tight space.

The cars handle brilliantly and I actually quite like the more rigid competition structure - rather than the more modern "here's a load of icons on a map. Off you go" approach, it's very much a "do this race next, then this one, then this one...".

A couple of things show its age - there's virtually no off-roading. There are dirt roads, but everything is fenced in. And there's a distinct lack of traffic.

It's just a really great game. And it's playable on my Series S.

Once I'm done with it, I may have to dig out a 360 to give that version of 2 another go. I remember liking it more than the Bone version.

Played FH2 on the 360 fairly recently and played the Xbox One version a fair bit when released. The game is great on either. However I did prefer the XBO version because it was just a more visually impressive game.

I seem to remember liking the competition structure better on the 360. But it was criticized from the start for being a cut down, budget version of the One game. There's no dlc, bits of the map blocked off, it uses the old engine and so on. But I had a lot of fun with it when it was released - I was basically an entire generation behind at that point, so only played the 360 version until relatively recently.

Playing the original with my son now. He drives around the world, I do the actual races. It works well.

I’m picking up a 360 this evening, looking forward to some fluff-less games. I’m not quite sure what happened as I intended to buy a PS3.

What happened is that you made the right choice.

I stuck with Sony in the PS360 generation, only picking up a 360 after the One had launched. Definitely backed the wrong horse in that race.

Aye. I am no fanboy. I fuckin hated my xbox one at launch. Microsoft really dropped the ball, especially after the heady heights of the 360.

I have no issues with the One. It had Forza Horizon games on it, so it's automatically brilliant. It was my only console that generation and I don't feel like I've missed anything.

TV TV TV, and no backwards compatibility at launch?

hard pass.

until the following Black Friday, when I bought one. I replaced that with a boneX, then a series S, and another bone, for completions sake.

so I could play the platform exclusives, like Halo Wars 2! I jest…

then I got a gaming laptop*, despite being dead set against it. Best of all the worlds!

* or rather, a laptop capable of gaming

My 360 is so horribly slow, it’s unreal. I might replace my old USB external drive with a newer, quicker one, but the bottleneck seems to be the console grabbing stuff off the net. eg go into a game’s details from the front end and it takes an age to load up screenshots, achievements etc. Ugh.

I have a 360 like this, it used to be slow then got so slow it wouldn’t ever actually do anything - I just replaced it but suspect the internal hdd has failed so may have a go at repairing it…

It was odd as I had kind of conditioned myself into thinking the 360 was slow, it’s not ssd console snappy but my ‘new’ one is very quick!

I picked up a few games for my 360 from CEX - PGR4, Virtua Tennis 2009, Forza 4 and Lost Planet 2, £6!

The 360 looks surprisingly good on my LG OLED, and I'm really enjoying it. I seem considerably worse than I used to be at these games but there's no fluff, jump in and play!

It's a pity there's no obvious way to download Game Pass 360 games..

I thought the same when I hooked up my Outrun machine to the OLED - i thu k you can still trigger downloads from the 360 website, it is difficult to navigate tho!
