He's retiring? Bloody hell :(

What a legacy to leave though. The man's a genius.

Quote

When his longtime collaborator, the director Steven Spielberg, showed him Schindler's List, the composer felt it would be too challenging to score. He said to Spielberg, 'You need a better composer than I am for this film.' Spielberg responded, 'I know. But they're all dead!'

There seems to be a troubling amount of Phoebe Waller-Bridge in that trailer for my tastes.

She's everywhere at the mo. Wasn't it drop the dead donkey or whatever that new show was that blew her up, ahh FLEABAG! I never saw them, just recent stuff and she's mildly annoying to me, but I don't know her enough from previous stuff to be annoyed, or notice her enough in current stuff to be annoyed. I feel it's on the negative trajectory though.

Is she everywhere? She was; back in 2018/19, when Fleabag was still the media darling, you couldn't move for fawning articles. Since then, she's done a voice in Solo, fiddled to little effect with the No Time To Die script, and is now appearing in this. Doesn't feel like a lot really.

I'm not saying she'd exactly be my first choice but I reckon there's a reasonable chance that she'll be a perfectly fine Vesper-Lynd-ish character. Certainly not my biggest concern after Crystal Skull, and can she possibly be worse than Karen Allen?

shut-ins online can't stand her - they blame her for emasculating (their words, not mine!!!) Han Solo and James Bond - destroying male heroes and forcing 'woke' into films.  One of my pals heads a bit broken with this stuff and he's convinced Indy 5 is going to be absolutely terrible purely because of her and Kathleen Kennedy's involvement.  I pointed out that KK also produced his favourite modern star wars film, Rogue 1 and was was producer on Andor... and that Solo and No Time To Die were actually *good films*.  He doesn't want to know.

She didn't just do the voice.  It was far more glamourous.

Wow. I have no recollection of the Power Rangers segment whatsoever, though the entire film is eminently forgettable.

I hadn’t seen Fleabag when I worked on Solo, so when I started getting rushes with her character I was absolutely baffled as she doesn’t have the frame of a professional mocap performer and the suit was spectacularly unflattering, even by mocap standards. When I finally figured out who she was the schtick finally made sense.

Fleabag was excellent to be fair, even if it did completely obliterate my ‘entitled middle class comedian’ radar. I’m not convinced she actually contributed much to Bond beyond name recognition, it seemed to me like they got her involved purely to deflect attention from the usual misogynist criticism, which seems to have worked. Critics spoke about her involvement as if she wrote the whole thing, whereas I doubt the script actually changed much at all so late in the day.

I presume she’s effectively the new Marcus in this?

I don't know, that whole segment with Ana De Armas felt pretty Waller Bridge-y in tone and was by far the standout bit of the film.

And then the lads/articles/etc. praising her, Fleabag, Killing Eve, etc. post I May Destroy You decided that Michaela Coel was the new PWB and that PWB wasn't a genius like wot they said she was, and y'know isn't she a bit, like posh, and smug, and inauthentic like Coel and so on.

Being a woman in tv/film must be fucking impossible.

I’ve only seen the film once but I didn’t think that bit worked at all personally* and could quite easily have been removed, but agree it’s the main section that seemed to have her voice. It’s pretty much the only bit with any jokes. But some people seemed to attribute Bond becoming a dad to her, whereas that was surely the foundation of the plot from the start.

*borderline parodic sub-John Wick choreography with seemingly never-ending goons pouring out of doors like it’s Time Crisis, zero sense of threat, along with that try-hard running joke about it being her first day. As action scenes go it was bizarrely unconvincing and took me out of the film completely.

Fleabag is excellent and all you have to do is look on PWB IMDB page to see she isn't "everywhere" right now at all.

She's just the latest in a long line of woman who did something popular so now people hate on her for no real reason.

Because they went on about her too much in the first place and made themselves tired of her.

The Dial of Destiny is a terrible title. It’s worse than the Crystal Skull one.

I disagree. The problem with the fourth film's title is that "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" would have been a fine title for a stand-alone film - it has the same pattern as "Raiders of the Lost Ark". But once you add "Indiana Jones and the..." to the start it's just too long.

"Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull" would have been OK, and so would "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Skull". But both together is really clunky.

"Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" isn't a great title, but at least it's not a mouthful to say!

Dial of Destiny is easier to say but doesn’t sound interesting or exciting. They might as well have called it Knob of Fate.
