Yeah I didn't see them on my phone yesterday but they definitely are. 

 

I hope they're going to CGI a better hat on him while they're at it, because that one in those shots is awful.

They are 100% CGI markers.

The hat looks a mess because he's soaking wet in that scene.

James Mangold's been pretty active on Twitter recently - getting into it with some trolls as to why their usual complaints (Harrison's too old, Kathleen Kennedy is producing!) are all bullshit. Interestingly, in one exchange, he asks them how they think this makes him feel - being asked to renounce the work of the very people he's working with now to alay the fears of some randoms on the internet while also saying that privately they might be in agreement on lots on why the last film didn't work.

Exploring his Likes gives an insight how he's approaching the de-aging. One guy complains about how bad it was handled in The Irishman and hopes that it's just done as a prologue/flashback in Indy 5. Mangold liked it. So I'm guessing we ARE getting a de-aged Indy but only for the WW2 part of the story. We're going to get a McGuffin that he was involved with during the war and then a follow up in the late 60's with an Older Indy for the most part. He also liked another tweet that wished the film would bring back the harder edge that was present in Raiders, as opposed to the overly comedic tone that LC and KOTCS veered into.

This is some good detective work. Tbh more impressive than an interview i saw with 'the man who caught Jimmy Saville' who went on about his detective skills but then said that 'i'd never heard of Saville being a peado i just thought he was weird' and 'i discovered there was a lot of talk about Saville on the internet, a good thing to do is when you interview people is ask them who else you should speak to'.

 

I think de ageing is a bad idea, i thought it was film ruining in The Irishman but i was genuinely amazed by it in the opening of Terminator Dark Fate,

like eye rub i'm seeing 4 Krustys here disbelief. You can kind of see that Sarah Connor is cgi with the more expressive facial expressions and head movement, but John Connor is completely convincing. I took it to think it was a lookalike. Actually, it might have been, i could check that. I could also check which company did those effects but can't be bothered at the moment.

Part of the deaging issue is that ILM have missed with it and they are the go to fix house on Lucasfilm stuff.

 

Dark Fate was them though, so maybe they've cracked it.

 

Also, for Mangold's part, Logan features some really great CGI head replacement.

 Have to say that I like that some of the old Logan chauffeuring shots that are randomly a CGI Jackman.

I didn't realise there were so many cgi actor replacements in Logan. Just saw the videos. No one spots it because it's seamless but also everyone will think; don't you usually replace the background, not the actor. It seems so unnecessary but the action and camera movements are so quick or shaking and you're so engaged you're less likely to notice. With a young Harrison Ford walking around it's different.

Just because Ford has tracking markers on his face/costume doesn’t necessarily mean he’s being de-aged (in that particular scene), they could be for beauty work or adding wounds or anything. Never underestimate the sheer amount of seemingly mundane VFX work that goes on with films this scale.

Very jealous. It’ll probably be Ford lighting one up and pretending to be busy for the cameras hiding behind some curtains, but it’s Indy.

Re: the de-aging in the Irishman. Yeah, it does look a bit ropey, but there's a good video here of how you could use deepfake referencing a younger DeNiro, which really works, instead of CGI.

 

 

The thing with The Irishman was the scenes that required more action, like the fight scene, where DeNiro just didn't move like a 40 year old. Hopefully it looks like they're using stunt doubles in this, so it shouldn't stand out so much.

 

Also, if it's set in 1969, then technically Ford should be 10 years or so younger, but I guess he doesn't look like much of a 78 year old, so he could get away with looking like mid 60s. 

 

I'm also hoping that as it's using the Apollo moon mission, it's got something to do with a Nazi Moonbase  or Space Nazis 😉 That would kind of bring it back to the crazy Nazi occult theme of Raiders.

imagine, who did the digital doubles and face replacements on Mangold’s ‘Logan’ are exceptional at this type of thing. I had no idea as much of that film was not Jackman. 
 

 

Anyway, from what I’ve seen from the Glasgow set I’m expecting a first act sequence where:

A retiring Jones, teaching at the Hunter College affiliate of NYU, is contacted by Phoebe Waller Bridges character for A Reason. 

 

Holydbrook’s character and at least one Giant Henchman, confront Jones and it leads to a horse vs motorcycle chase (True Lies fans represent!)  through the Apollo 11 welcome home parade.
 

How this in ties to the WW2 flashback, Toby Jones, Mads Mikkelson and Antonio Banderas? No idea! But I’m liking what I’ve seen so far.
