Xbox Game Pass

Recommended Posts

Gris is fantastic and well worth a run through. It's only short and more of an experience than a game, but you should all give it a go.

Is it possible to take advantage of this three years of Gamepass for five pence shenanigans without actually owning Xbox hardware yet? I don't want a current gen Xbox but intend to get the Series X thing later this year, but am a bit nervous the cheapo deal will be over by then.

You could definitely do it. I set mine up on Tuesday all via my MacBook and MS account on their site.

EDIT: Not quite true actually thinking about it. The £1 upgrade I eventually did from my Xbox itself, but I saw the link on my account to do it online instead which I think would work.

Great, I've been desperate to play A Plague Tale but I've been holding out because it just seemed like a shoe in for Game Pass. Definitely feel like GP has altered my buying habits.

Yes but you'd be paying out £50 for a years Live that you aren't using.

True. Although you could still access PC games with it potentially if that hardware was available so not a total loss.

You don't need xbox hardware as ultimate game pass gets you access to all the pc games too. I use it exclusively for pc atm

I didn't even know that rat game had come out  .

U wot mate?  There is a dedicated thread with lots of rats in the title thereof......

Seriously, brilliant news, don't expect revelatory game play, just a great story and a really satisfying mechanical progression.

I was day one on Division 2 and had a really good run with it. I've moved on now as - in my opinion - the post-game stuff doesn't hold up interest like the first one did which I put hours and hours into. However throughout the main story phases and world tiers it really was a lot of fun.

Children of Morta has been added to Game Pass today

Weird graphical glitches (white horizontal and vertical lines flashing on screen) put me off this.

Are there any decent strategy games on Gamepass for PC? preferably turn based, since I'll be using a trackpad...

Belated, but the very best, from best to slightly-less best, are:

Into the Breach (super-small-scale tactics with roguelite framing)

Stellaris (galaxy-spanning 4x)

Frostpunk (grim, gorgeous city builder)

Wargroove (fantasy-themed Advance Wars knock-off)

Also, it's only just come out and I've barely played it, but Phoenix Point is a game from the makers of the original UFO/XCOM series, which takes some inspiration from Firaxis' reimagining of said series, but keeps ahold of the grander scale and slightly more brutal framing of the originals. Probably worth a look if you have any fondness for either flavour of XCOM.

Man, I’m really enjoying Game Pass at the moment.

Dead Cells is fantastic.
Loaded up GTAV for the first time since I played it on PS3 6 years ago and it made me want GTA 6 badly.
Been playing Tracks with my son.

And I’ve got Metro Exodus downloading, as well as Morta.

I was looking at the Forza Horizon 4 thread recently and back in early 2018 I posted something about which edition I’d be buying. So quaint.

the main missions are great the first couple of times through: really show the lack of inventiveness in the likes of Destiny 2’s locations.

The thing Division 2 does of using the many museums around Washington as the locations for lots of the story missions is a really bloody clever trick. Lets the developers really vary the environment massively - one mission is in an elaborate Vietnam exhibit, another in a mocked up TV studio - and gives you cool shit to look at every time. It's a very good game too.

Made me think a Division 3 in London would work well. Also I want to go to Washington DC and visit some of the museums.

New Gear System

Why are they changing this?

Overall the current situation is:

  • At a certain point, getting usable things feels too rare.
  • The system is hard to understand (you need excel sheets for max rolls etc.) and it is difficult to judge what is good.
  • Players end up keeping too many items in storage because they don’t offer an immediate or clear advantage or for later recalibration.
  • The rush of seeing a god roll diminishes, in part because it can be difficult to understand what a god roll is.
  • Players are getting too much of everything; the current gear system allows for too many builds with consistently high stats, rather than builds with interesting trade-offs.
