Xbox Game Pass - GUIDE TO BEST DEAL IN FIRST POST

Played it for a bit. Its more focussed on strategy and thinking ahead than I expected from reading about it. Its not a game you can smash your way through, which is great. Attacks are a bit hit and miss since your minions can get stuck chewing on fortifications instead of enemies. The right stick pans the camera around so you can investigate the surrounding area before you move.

A nice surprise.

Yeah I enjoyed what I've played of it. You have think about the pathing of the minions and they do get stuck sometimes but it can be avoided. Choice of minions matters a lot too. Not sure about the gating conditions to unlock the other saints or whatever they are but I'm nearly there with a couple of them so we'll see.

Is there an average time we can expect each game to remain on Game Pass before it's removed? I notice Resident Evil 4 has vanished within the last couple of days which is a pity but not a big deal. However, I'm now a little nervous about other third party games disappearing before I get a chance to play them. I don't imagine this is a problem when you've been a member for a while and can play games as and when they become available, but when you sign up for the first time and there are dozens of games you want to play that might vanish soon, choosing something to play can be overwhelming!

I asked a similar question re the games going (mine was how long from the “it’s leaving” till it actually does) and apparently it’s 2 weeks. Quite happy with that as it gives you a good chance to have good play of you prioritise it. If you buy when on GP too you get 25% off :)

In regard to the question on RE4, It was added to Game Pass in mid July '19 so it was on the service for just over six months. Some third party games have been this and more but I don't remember anything lasting less than six months. The first party content looks like it's up their permanently until it's superceded.

I want to say Fallout 4 fell off in less than 6  months because of Fallout 76 and then it was added back on.

Man, the windows PC interface for this is terrible. Having just built a new PC, I decided to test it out with Metro Exodus. 60Gb download. I've got to 30Gb successfully so far before something goes wrong and the download crashes and has to restart. I've also got to 15Gb and several attempts to about 2Gb. My internet does about 15Gb a day on the xbox app. I've switched to the windows store to do the download and am at 11.5Gb without a hitch so far today. Also the space has been allocated multiple times so has eaten about a third of my 500Gb SSD.

I've had none of these issues with steam downloads.

I too want Theme Hospital 2020. I think we have to wait a few more weeks for Two Point Hospital to arrive on non-PC though.

Within two days of getting my hands on it, Game Pass has provided one of my most impactful gaming experiences since Breath of the Wild, in the form of Outer Wilds. What a first impression that game makes. I'm only a couple of hours in but I can't wait to explore more.

I think the only way to deal with this "anxiety" is to accept that we wont be able to play all the games we want to play before they roll off the service. I've just accepted that I will use the service to try out lots of game I might not have tried with zero cost to me for each game and to then choose the ones that really really click with me and play them only. I'm going through The Outer Worlds using this thinking.   I did want to try out Shadow of the Tome Raider since it's supposed to show when Lara first becomes the true tomb raider but you know what?  It'l re-appear on the service at some point or on Sony's service or I'll pick it up for a fiver if I still want to play it in 12 months time.

Let the sea of plenty flow over you and pick at your leisure. Don't fret as the tide goes out. It'll come in again bringing more at some point.

I think the shortest amount of time I've ever seen a game on the service (bar The Division coming back a second time recently for just a month) was MGS5 leaving after 3 months. It came back later on though. I think on average you can expect a game to be on the service for at least 6 months.

Will be interesting to see how long GTA5 stays on there for. It was recently on PS Now but only for 3 months.

As I understand it, first party Microsoft games remain on Game Pass permanently. What about games by companies Microsoft has acquired? Bard's Tale games, The Outer Worlds, Wasteland games, Hellblade etc - is there any chance of these dropping off or are they effectively first party titles now?

A slight counterpoint to your first sentence, games like Forza will not remain on there permanently.  When the licences expire they'll have to go, of course they normally know this is coming and sell them off for fuck all in the last week so that isn't a huge thing.

They usually give them away as one of the Games with Gold.

They are there for good/ as long as GP is a thing.
