Xbox Game Pass - GUIDE TO BEST DEAL IN FIRST POST

GamePass has also given Microsoft more positive media coverage and goodwill than they've had in quite some time. I don't think it will dramatically change how next-gen pans out in terms of consoles sold but having positive media coverage is important for cultivating an appealing brand as Don Mattrick will surely tell you.

In this thread alone people have admitted to ditching their Playstation 4s for an Xbox because of this. It's ridiculous to think it'll have the effect to sell tens of millions more consoles but it's also a bit silly to discount it.

What will be interesting to see is how many people feel the need to upgrade to the next generation immediately, what with backwards compatibility being promised across the board. And it also depends if that BC takes advantage of the extra power, like the X does with some 360 and Xbox One games.

And Game Pass must be profitable to Devs and Microsoft because would they really lean into like they have if it wasn't? Actual question, because I genuinely don't know.

It's an interesting one. Game Pass has locked me into Xbox for three years and I will probably buy the Series X (mainly because I'm still using a launch Xbox One and have a 4K TV sitting there waiting to be explored properly. Whether or not that means I don't buy the PS5 will remain to be seen (I probably will), however until I got the £1 ultimate deal my intention was to go PS5 first, then Xbox later and that has now swapped.

Very true. It's easy to assume that massive global corporations should solely cater for our needs as gamers, but the reality is the mass of casual FIFA/COD/GTA players around the world generate a huge proportion of the revenue. That said, things like Game Pass can hopefully capture some of those people and bring them into the fold by expanding their exposure to things.

A FIFA/Dark Souls mash-up sounds interesting though, like an ultra-violent Rocket League. :D

Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that devs at least are very happy with Game Pass. Which suggests, like with the Epic store buying exclusives, that they're happy to recoup a significant portion or even more (would love to know the details on this!) of the costs outright, outside of any actual sales. Unlike the Epic  store, however, there's no forced exclusivity or negative pr attached to it. And they get more people playing their games.

Microsoft? Who knows. We're all assuming they want people subscribed to their ecosystem. Even the 1 quid thing is positive if you realize that it's one time only. You get people topping up their 3 years, or regretting that they didn't do 3 years and therefore topping up. But we're in a certain kind of special bubble on this forum of course, if our tastes were any indication then Dark Souls would be as big as FIFA and FIFA would be niche.

Fifa wouldn't be niche as the subforum would attest too.

@Mr. Gerbik If you haven’t played Halo 2 for a while, I definitely recommend giving it a go. Anniversary graphics and Heroic and it’s like a new game. I had a load of fun with it the other week.

I did replay it recently and it was nowhere near as bad as I remembered it! Still think the other Bungie Halo campaigns are better though, so it didn't change its place in my personal definitive and objectively correct Halo ranking, but it's way closer to the others than I thought.

I did the same and really enjoyed it. The only issue I had was that some sections were punishingly difficult (on Heroic).

I'm re-playing 4 at the moment. It's so much better than I remembered. Probably because the Covenant appear a lot more than I'd thought. The Prometheans are still a bit rubbish.

To be fair, PS+ blew anything MS were offering out the water for quite a while. Now just seems to be a load of old games I’ve already played or never wanted to play. They’re currently pushing Horizon which everyone played donkeys years ago.

Ooh is HZD coming to PS+?

I haven’t ditched the PS4, I’ve been PS4 exclusive for the entire generation, still have it and it’s provided years of amazing exclusives. Also PS+ beat any Microsoft offerings for a good long while.

Now though, Gamepass gives me access to loads of non exclusive games I missed, plus Gears, Halo and Forza and the One X provides probably the best platform for the only game I’m looking forward to next year, Cyberpunk. Gonna get TLOU2 as well obviously.

No way Sony won’t be joining in the Gamepass-like train soon. They’ve already got everything up and running, they just need to streamline the services and add newer games, including all first-party exclusives forever. Now with Sony’s back-catalogue that would really put the shoe on the other foot.

Which sections did you find difficult? It’s a total pain in the arse on Legendary, but I found Heroic to be the sweet spot.

I’ll definitely have to give 4 another go, although I’ve got bad memories of the Prometheans and any dropped weapons disappearing as soon as you move on from an area. Hopefully I’m as pleasantly surprised with it as I was with Halo 2 though.

One bit that springs to mind is on Delta Halo, a fair way in. You take a gondola thing and the flood ambush you on the other side - several waves of them.

Properly frustrating. Most of it was fine, it just felt like the difficulty ramped up in some sections.

What are some of the better couch co-op games on GamePass?

Overcooked 2 and Human Fall Flat off the top of my head. Borderlands The Handsome Collection is split screen I think, but not 100% sure. LEGO Worlds, Pandemic. Gears of War is split screen, but your mileage may vary depending on your tolerance for dumb shooters. The Escapists is apparently local as well, but I've not played it.

My subscription to this ends soon, whats my best way of extending? I've seen this deal for 3 months + 3 months free for £32.99, is that it?

You already on Game Pass Ultimate? If so, do this:

It's cheaper to buy the standard 3 month Game Pass codes from CDKeys: Standard Affiliate

Buy 3 of them at £8 each. It translates to 6 months GPU for £24.

A 3 month Game Pass code is converted to 2 months Game Pass Ultimate.
