Xbox Game Pass - GUIDE TO BEST DEAL IN FIRST POST

Hi, I’ve got a different question!

My son’s Ultimate has just expired. We had the free 6 month thing through BT, but now I want to renew using the Gold conversion trick. However the Xbox says our account is managed through BT, and I’m reticent to spend money on Gold codes if they’re not going to work. Has anyone done the same and know the easiest way to de-link my BT account from the Xbox one?

Edit: to answer my own question, I spent an hour on the phone with BT and they were next to useless, although polite. I then spent half an hour on live chat with Microsoft, and they managed to override it by renewing for another month, which has wrestled control back to me. So I’ve got to pay for a month but then next month I should be able to let it lapse and do the thing.

This is a bit off-topic, but I wondered if anyone had heard of anything similar..?

My wife and I have joint credit cards from Sainsbury's bank, we took them out 15-20 years ago and never use them any more. (For the wife's use mainly, I don't think I ever used mine, and don't have the details saved anywhere.) A month ago there was a mysterious £1 charge to it from Microsoft, and then a month later £10.99 from Microsoft. That seemed familiar...!

Phoned the bank, and the charge was made on my card number, but with the wrong expiry date. Phoned up Microsoft, and they couldn't tell us anything because neither of our names matched their record of the card number used.

It seems weirdly small potatoes for credit card fraud, and easily stopped. But they obviously let through a charge with the wrong expiry date and name. Maybe someone typed their card number wrong and got mine..? But that seems pretty improbable. I don't know, weird stuff.

Ghostwire Tokyo coming 12th April:

Was this general knowledge? The game always seemed a bit eh to me, but, as ever, I'm much more inclined to give it a go if it's GP-bound (not that I have an active sub at the moment...).

Depends which bit you mean was known?

The date wasn't. It was timed exclusive to Playstation.

Given the studio is owned by MS it was a given (or at least assumed) it was coming to Game Pads when it got an Xbox release.

Seems similar to Deathloop where the previous marketing or timed exclusivity deal with Sony has restricted what they've been able to announce regarding its Xbox launch.

Hi guys, thought I'd stack up my Ultimate GP to be ready for the COD drop, so just purchased 12x£40 Gold cards.

The trick in the first post still works right?

...Right?

Is it just the $1 to new people deal? You can still do the trick but have to spend 10.99 to convert?

Seems like it. No big deal in that case.

Someone just needs to test it

As suggested I think this is just the $1 first time conversion that has gone.

Although maybe it represents a winder change that's coming. They could easily change Gold to GPU conversion to be a value based conversion rather than a time one. Which still makes stacking cheap codes worthwhile but not the proposition it is now.

Anyway. It's now slightly more valid to ask if it's still working in here.

Ha! I knew not renewing my sub was a bad idea. There I was, all smug. Ah well.

I've not renewed either and my GP ran out at the beginning of March.

It's an incredible deal (the conversion trick) but  not really used GP since High On Life got released. Also have a back catalogue of games to play.

Between my PC and the Xbox content I have I really don't need to buy another game for years and I seem to keep going back to the same old games anyway.

Think the main thing with GP for me has been the premise of AAA games day one release on GP day and date with retail. However from experience the AAA games haven't really being flowing with any regularity. I mean for example it's been 7 years since the last Forza Motorsport (and they took FM7 off the service last year).

It's great for indie titles I guess so it has variety however think I have enough to keep me busy!

I expect they'll revoke the conversation trick before Forza Motorsport gets released and any other big games in winter this year. I don't really mind. I might sub for a month when Forza gets a release to see what it's like.

This is definitely the sign of things to come.

There's been a downward trend with the rewards recently too and it all just seems to be pointing towards a huge restructure of the pricing of GPU.

I hope I'm wrong - GPU was soooooo great at this price point because it allowed me to dip in and out when I felt like it.

If the price goes up massively then I really think I can actually do without it to be honest and just sub for a month here and there as and when needed which is a shame but oh well.

@MattyP, similar to you, mine ran out mid Feb and I've not felt a huge urge to renew it. Before that, I hadn't used it since early December when I started (then parked) Pentiment.

I've mentioned this before, but, for me, it's been really quite refreshing not having it; I don't miss feeling obliged to play certain games because they're going to be leaving (or are rumoured to be leaving) the service, and it's nice not having a backlog of GP games that I feel I need to tick off, like a to do list.

I can entirely understand why, for lots of people, Game Pass is an essential service, and I get that my circumstances are pretty specific (I sold my Series X last month and got a new GPU for my PC). However, even in light of this recent news, I'm not going to be rushing out and spending £120 on Live Gold codes to renew it for another three years. I might get it for a month or so here and there when there's some more expensive stuff I definitely want to play, but I think there's a lot to be said for owning games, as opposed to just 'renting' them via GP: you have them forever, you can play them whenever you like and you're more likely to play them properly as you've actually paid money for them.

And, buying games via Steam, I can download them natively to my Steam Deck, too. If there's an official GP app that's developed for the Steam Deck which allows you to download games to it natively, as opposed to streaming them, then I might change my tune in the future, but for the time being I'll be happy with buying a month's worth of GPU here and there, as and when I choose to.
