Is that the final season of Walking Dead? AT LAST.

That would be a good comparison if it's a game that's all about the story. But when I play stuff like Dying Light 2 I really can't find the patience to listen to the characters explain in detail what happened with X and why I need to go to Y now, I just want to parkour dropkick zombies.

Eastward is different, it IS about the story and it tells in a way that holds my attention.

There seems to be a lot of talk that Monster Hunter Rise is launching on Xbox on the 20th of January and is day one on Gamepass. Could just be a bullshit rumour people have latched onto but figured I might as well mention it.

I could've swore it was this thread, but someone else mentioned this today. January, allegedly.

This is apparently coming to PS5 and Xbox (including Game Pass) in January, running at 4K/60fps.

Mixed feelings about this - while I'm glad that more people will get to play this game, especially Sunbreak which I think is genuinely superb, I do feel a bit of a mug for putting so much time into the Switch version now. I would absolutely have held on if I'd known there was a proper next-gen version planned.

There it is!

I've never actually played The Walking Dead series. Is it worth a punt and could I get through it fairly quickly?

The first season was excellent back in the day. I replayed it again recently and the story and voice work still hold up, but the arbitrary point-and-click sections have dated badly. I'd give the first season a try and see what you think. It's a good mobile/Steam Deck streaming game.

It's weird because I hadn't seen many rumours to suggest an Xbox (and presumably PlayStation) port was even in the works and now it's apparently just weeks away.

I'd rather an actual dev answer this but I was under the impression that a PC port did a decent (but not considerable) chunk of work to porting it to the new consoles. Could be very wrong, mind.

They confirmed it five minutes later than Windows Central told us they would. Plainly Windows Central are unreliable scumbags.

EDIT: Capcom announced it at 10. Windows Central are lovely honest people and whoever runs the Gamepass Twitter account is a lazy vagabond.

Monster Hunter is one of those game series that has just completely passed me by. I know absolutely nothing about them. What kind of games are they?

Kill things to make things to kill bigger things to make better things…

With a very rewarding but hard to master fighting mechanic.

That revels in being somewhat obtuse and unclear (eg great if you LOVE mastering systems)

And if it clicks for you say goodbye to your life.

The first 3DS one did it for me and that saw me put in about 240 hrs by the time I was done. And I stuck with only one weapon. Great Sword for life.

Is it a good solo experience?

Monster Hunter is pure gaming crack, but it's also very opaque and overwhelming for new players; there are dozens of different systems within systems, very few of which are well or even adequately explained. I rinsed MH4 on the 3DS, World on the PS4, and even then, when I came to Rise on the Switch, it still took me a good five hours to figure out what the fuck I was doing.

Play it, by all means, because once it clicks, boy, does it click. Just be prepared to teach yourself how to play it by asking on here and reading or watching guides.

Any game that requires you to read a guide can fuck off as far as I’m concerned.

It’s honestly not necessary but you do need to pay attention and be prepared to experiment. It’s honestly 100% worth it. One of the best game series of all time.
