I see TSW 2 is now on game pass, and more importantly has a series X patch (and some new dlc).

Guilty pleasure game that for me, similar chillout experience to flight sim but less polished and a bit more of a game. Ran like a dog on PS4 so I'm probably going to dive back in with this X version.

As for Omno, there have been a few undemanding indie games like that running badly on series X, Cris Tales is fixed now but had brutal screen tearing. It's maybe some kind of SDK bug.

Is it 60fps on SX? I wanted to like the first game but gave up because it ran like shit.

Looks like they're adding Quake for Xbox and Quake 1-3 for PC today.

Just had a quick 20min blast on Quake on Series X.

It’s bloody lovely! :)

EDIT:  For anyone that gives this a go (and you really should, it’s a superb FPS) and finds things a little too speedy for their liking, well I’ve just taken a look in options and it turns out that “Always Run” is set to ”On” by default!!

Oh and that 20min quick blast is now a 1h and counting “those chores can wait till tomorrow” session!!

Nah, Humankind is proper 7/10 brilliance,* so that doesn't quite hold up.

* as in, it's got a few issues with polish and onboarding, but the core is magnificent; the opposite of the 'polished but mediocre' 7/10 that is worth nobody's time

After playing 12 mins, the medium, etc I’m coming to the conclusion that any third party that launches on day one is because it’s proper 7/10 tedium.

Barring (some)  2D indie.

It’s weird that they’re heavily promoting these games. I know they’ve got some big hitters coming in the shape of FH5 and Halo Infinite, but I do wonder why they’re wasting their time pushing such obviously average stuff.

Hopefully it’s just a tactic to counter all the ‘Xbox has no games’ nonsense and once the better titles start coming more frequently, these lesser games will get less of the marketing budget.

It’s definitely made me more cautious of expecting Psychonauts 2 to be any good though.

The previews of Psychonauts 2 have been glowing. It's disappointing that the likes of The Ascent, The Medium and 12 Minutes turned out below expectations but you're comparing games from either unknown indie devs or devs with a poor track record to a game from a dev with a proven track record behind it. And a game with a well regarded prequel at that.

Last Stop certainly wasn’t tedious. What it was is “different”.

Outriders was also a cut above the medium, the ascent.

what maybe differs is that we’re all playing a much greater quantity of smaller games at launch.

I’m not worried about psychonauts 2 at all. It’ll have some jank, because every double fine game has some jank, and it’ll probably be a 7/8 out of 10 game: but you play double fine games for the ideas, not the polish.

My take on it is that these games are exactely what they expect of them, but the higher profile and expectations that comes with being on game pass relatively inflates expectations with customers and reviewers. I play and watch a lot of indie games and I would say that the indie games that appear on game pass are in line with most very good indie releases, in terms of quality. These games are generally much better received by the community and reviewers when they come out of the blue without the marketing push behind them, which just raises expectations unreasonably.

Can't believe how good some of the features in the gamepass app are. I've been streaming Slay the spire to my phone playing with touch controls, it even worked on 4G while waiting in a car park. I think my Nintendo switch is becoming redundant.

The ascent is far from a Duffer. I actually found it a superb day but I'm also went into it without expecting a full on masterpiece so when I played it was special.

I honestly think some people go into games especially indie games expecting groundbreaking masterpieces and that is a shame where they are just enjoyable games and that should be enough.

I don't know maybe it's just me but apart from the medium I've liked most of the so-called letdown from the past few months so I don't know

Totally agree with this.

Finally finished The Ascent last night, and while the final mission was tough as hell and I was totally relieved to finally beat it, I still thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game.

Yeah, I’ve only played around 50 turns or so, but Humankind seems really good so far.

(And if anyone else runs into the issue where the “how many 4X games” tutorial setup screen disappears when you go back to the main menu, I think all this screen is doing is setting one or two of the options in the Settings menu, it’s under something like “tutorial level”, so you can just start a normal game and then set that option to whatever you like afterwards and still get the tutorial.)

Cheers! I had that problem. I'll take another look at it.

This.  A million times this.  It constantly amazes me how many people just don't like games unless it meets a spec chart.
