Fucking hell, I think I asked if Art of Rally didnt seem a bit  difficult to control earlier in here, what with the perspective etc.

But Christ, it's fucking amazing.

Best rally game I've played since Dirt 2.0. The controls makes so much sense once you've gone through the menus and got  them set up for yourself.

Loving the shit out of it.

[foundational genre behind huge swathes of modern gaming] games should just be banned. There has never been a decent one of them. Stop trying to make them.  That would be my first order as US President.

It's a compelling argument.

Oh man, I think everyone just needs to find the right set up for it before it reveals itself. There's definitely a sweet spot there, it just takes a little time and experimentation to find it.

I was expecting a nightmare of control options, but it turned out otherwise.

Hades is even worse than I remembered.

Roguelikes have always existed, they used to be called arcade games.

Really loving Hades and have had a lot of fun with Minecraft Dungeons recently. Is there anything else on GP in the same vein that I should have a look at?

If you’ve never played Dead Cells I would highly recommend it, similar tone to Hades but it’s a side-on 2D platform-hacker, and it’s excellent, IMO just as good as Hades, better in some ways.

I didn't get on with Dead Cells. I might revisit it, though

It's first person and it's not actually a Roguelike but Warhammer Vermintide 2 (or whatever combination of words makes up its official title...) might tick some of the same boxes. Semi randomised hordes of enemies, loot elements, etc.

Being awkward now, but I can't really do first person games. I get really bad motion sickness.

I'm definitely enjoying the isometric view...

Apparently that Curse of The Dead Gods is a bit like Hades, I haven’t played it but it looks pretty good from what I’ve heard.

Curse of the Dead Gods, and Children of Morta are the obvious choices, both top-down roguelike dungeon crawlers in a similar style.

If you want to branch out a bit, Slay the Spire and Monster Train are roguelikes in a completely different genre (deckbuilders) and they are both amazing.

I have only just started playing rogue likes with returnal being the first and now Hades. What I like in both is the razor Sharpe core mechanics which, presumably, are required if you are going to do the same/similar rooms over and over. Is Dead Cells equally as polished?

Path of Exile is free to play and is basically a hardcore version of the same gameplay template as Minecraft Dungeons.

Might be worth a look?
