Project CARS 2 - The ‘ultimate driver journey’

Recommended Posts

I played this for hours last week in Sweden. (And did a couple of days of snow and ice drifting to match.) Ask away! :)

Is the handling any better when using a pad? I really could never get the first one to feel right, which is a shame because I was really looking forward to it. And any game with Cadwell Park in it gets a thumbs up from me!

Looks brilliant!

Like @p1nseeker mentioned, the PS4 controls did not feel good out the box and languish behind Codemasters, Polyphony and Turn 10 for controller use. Hopefully Slightly Mad can refine controller options as in the end, it just means more people can play it and enjoy this brilliant series.

So happy they have Japanese cars (Rather than just as odd Evo!) in, they have the Ferrari license too?

Where was the ice drifting track and what were you driving?

Sorsele, up north in Sweden. Mercedes-Benz C 250 d Coupé (RWD) and Mercedes C 400 4MATIC (both sedan and estate).

Yes, the handling is much better on a pad this time. The devs noted how this was a key point in development. It's not twitchy any more at all - more in line with Gran Turismo I'd say (as Forza still tends to be too slidy).

The Slightly Mad guys mentioned how they secured 'most of the Japanese manufacturers' and 'most of the premium European ones'. No word on specifics with regards to Ferrari's - or Porsches!

I bet! Need to look up and down a lot I imagine!

Great to hear they have recognised the handling on a pad needed tweaking. Really looking forward to this.

Thanks for the details, fingers crossed they get Ferrari as that was an omission that felt odd in the original.

It's not so much that, as the car follows the undulations and so do you, it's just that the track is so awesome to just drive round.  Taking a small single seater close to the limit is amazing at cadwell, and the chicanes towards the end of the lap are spectacular when you can properly look to the apex on each one.

Will Sharky constantly be asking me to pull over to the side of the road cos I'm too slow?

Will you stop glitch-crashing into me?

Super hyped for PC2, I just pray they make it work properly with a controller. NFS Shift and PC1 were exactly the same in that respect and neither were really workable on a pad so I am concerned we'll get more of the same.

Feedback on the pCARS 2 forum is generally pretty positive about pad support, certainly seems to be an improvement over the first game.

I can't say that i look favorably on the Project Cars devs. There was something very wrong with the pad controls (XBone) that made some cars horrible to control, the rest just plain twitchy. I, along with other players, were waiting for this to be patched when the devs said they were working on the sequel. Flogged the game, rebought a year later expecting it to have been patched but nope, nothing. Shame really because it seemed that the racing ai was more exciting than Forza''s.

The AI was defo. more fun but it sometimes messed up things.

The pad problem was it was meant to have been developed as a pure sim for PC only and for wheel users to take on the likes of Assetto/Rf2/Automobilista but they were working on their new engine and then brought it to console fairly late in the day.

Everyone knows you can't control cars with a pad and that transition was implemented badly. They certainly shouldn't have left it the way they did though.

I don't really know what to make of Ian Bell. He sure talks the talk which makes him hard to like sometimes.

Interestingly the Assetto devs got the controller right, but as the game was a more 'sim' it didn't do as well. Which is to be expected but highlights the disparity issues between a decent "sim" and a game thats "fun". The AI isn't amazing either - but with a wheel the game comes alive.

And on PC Assetto is alive and kicking. They're just about to release the long awaited DRM revival mod, and Targa Florio is coming very soon.

I'd heard that it worked well with a wheel. I was feeling quite salty with Microsoft over that, my MICROSOFT steering wheel not being compatible with the XBone, but I'm completely over that now.

(Fuckers)

I hear ya' buddy.

Had the same issue with my Fanatec and yes, on the PS4 they tried and made it work - not perfectly but better then a controller IMO.

Even though no other dev did in any other game because apparently you couldn't. Didn't work on the bone though :(

So yeah i thank them for that.

Yeah, the Slighty Mad guys say they're extra focussed on making this a better experience for pad users - which I can tell is true from playing the preview build last February :)

This ranks very high on my most wanted list for 2017. Still interested to see how GT Sport, Forza Motorsport 7 and even the new Need for Speed turn out. But considering Project CARS is pretty much the best (track) racing game out there at the moment, the sequel can only be even more amazing.

That said, the 'rallycross battle' with DiRT 4 should be very interesting, too...

11.57 is pure sim porn.

Not so impressed with 22.28 - loves the way he sidesteps that thought. <_<
