I'd say the best thing to do when you're starting out is just follow the story (red "Red War" icon on the map for the initial storyline, after that it'll be Curse of Osiris starting on Mercury, then Warmind on Mars). Don't worry about stats and builds past getting the highest light level equipped until you're past the Soft Cap of 900, just always stick on whatever guns and armour are the highest light and give those enemies of Humanity a damn good thrashing ;)

Is this right though?. As I understand it, the Red War, Osiris and Warmind campaigns are NOT on the map by default, only Forsaken. To play all the original campaigns you need to go to Amanda Holliday in the tower to start them which isn't signposted anywhere.

I may be wrong here as I'm only going by reports I've read. I'm going to install New Light for my kids over the weekend so will be interesting to see how they've done it. Sounds like its a impenetrable for newcomers.

Even for New Light players?! That's an awful decision if so! I know everyone hates Osiris but not sticking the Red War Campaign in first, which is designed to introduce the game to you, seems incredibly silly :/

The Red War campaign must be trivially easy at 750 power. You'd presumably be one-shotting almost everything, if not one-shotting the bosses. It's a lot of work, but it would make sense if they boosted the power level of the campaign levels to keep them even slightly challenging (or, even better, if they normalised power levels like the do in the crucible).

Agreed that the signposting for the original content is all over the place. Does New Light even introduce you to each character on the Tower? I remember post-Red War was very good at that when you dropped in for the first time, it's a shame they couldn't just refresh that sequence.

I've hit the soft cap now, thanks to the chest cheese you can do at Sorrow's Harbour, and started digging into my collection again using the new gun mods you get from the artifact. I'm enjoying it a bit more now and I'm looking forward to mucking around with the refreshed explosive payload perk combined with that focus shot you can get on hand cannons, but I'm still yearning for some new guns. I'll probably make a start with doing whatever the hell Eris wants me to do on the moon, see if that does anything.

Apparently so. The first thing it asks you to do is go to the moon and speak to Eris which they then can't progress unless they lay down some cash for Shadowkeep! Who is going to do that for a F2P game they've only just started playing. Forsaken is on the map but you aren't alerted to the fact you need to do it, you just have to 'know'

It's just seems to be the same version of the game that everyone else has but with paywalled content.

All the previous campaigns that you pick up from Amanda are now recommended 750

Cool! Although it's weird that they hide them away, in that case.

Challenges are highlighted on the destination or planet maps or next to the activity (Strike/Crucible/Gambit).

Normally by yellow dots which tell you what to do to complete it.

Ok, I will take a another look. I think I was just getting overwhelmed having only just come back to playing it again from the PS4 to the Xbox version.

That does sound horrific, but I'm confused now about how MpM ended up at the Farm rather than the Tower after the intro if it skips you past the Red War.

That's where he got confused though so maybe it just dumps you there and then.....nothing. The first mission is that revamped D1 mission anyway so it's not the same as the Red War intro. I might install it on my kids PS4 over the weekend just to see what happens.

I think the difficulty is that they wanted new players to be able to jump in straight away with veteran players rather than make them play through 4 campaigns so they have to open the tower and Gambit and raids and all that as I suspect most would drop off the game before then otherwise.

However, a simple 'Are you a new player?' pop-up with a guided tour of the Director and some logical places to put the old campaign would have helped immesaurably. It definitely seems to have been lazy and a bit of an afterthought. There will be a constant stream of new players now though so hopefully they can cobble something together.

My goodness. No wonder I have no clue where to go and what to do.

OK, I'm lost. I played some of this on PS4 and was working my way through The Red War missions but even back then I found the game a bit confusing. I decided to dip my toe back in now that the cross save and move to Steam has been done but now I have even less of a clue what to do.

I need to go to The Tower now, not The Farm? From what I've read above I need to speak to Amanda Holliday to get the Red War, Osiris and Warmind missions?

I don't remember being level 750 either so I presume that's something to do with the new content?

Is there a preferred RLLMUK clan? I'd be mostly playing on PC.

I really want to like this game but FFS Bungie, throw me a bone here

They should stick a "Story" node on the Destinations screen or something, seems really dumb to hide it away in a corner of the Tower somewhere and lose that opportunity for new player engagement.

I've been really struggling with mods, armor 2.0 and the elements, sooooo as I have booked this time off work I started to make A Thing to have to hand while I get used to it all. It ended up turning out so big that I decided to share it over on Reddit.

If you're struggling with armor 2.0 and mods please check it out. :)

Speaking as someone who was never, ever going to be anywhere near good enough at PvP to get Recluse, I for one welcome our new Huckleberry overlords.

Shame that they broke the neck of... Breakneck though. Didn't need to go out like that.

These are the words of a coward and a buffoon.

I woke up this morning with 0 Glory. As of around 6:30pm this evening, I have over 2300 Glory, and one Recluse sitting in my inventory. Here are some important notes:

- I am still utter, utter shit at PvP. The worst. However, Solo Matchmaking is a godsend, and allows even fat-handed twats like me to stand a chance, because it's entirely possible you will get matched with people who are even worse at this game than you are, especially right now.

- I started playing on PC with controller, then realized that was a Very Bad Idea, before switching to PS4. Unsurprisingly, things went a lot smoother there.

- The changes to Glory points are... generous to say the least. To get to 2100 Glory, I think I only had to win a total of around 10 games or so, and that included a fair few losses. But generally speaking, I was going up one sub-rank every 2 games. The fact that each sub-rank is now a 'floor' that you can't drop below is great, but honestly, you're deducted so few points for a loss now, and you get given so many for a win that it's barely even necessary, especially if you manage to get a streak of 2 or 3 wins under your belt.

Here's the part I'm not entirely proud of.

- Striker Titan. One-Eyed Mask. Jotunn. What you will lose in self-respect, you will quickly make up for in precious eliminations. Jotunn in particular is just pure, pure filth. I lost count of the number of sniper lanes I closed down with a homing, flaming ball of death. It was very nearly one free kill per life, two if I got lucky, and was fortunate enough to face off against people who quite literally didn't see it coming. Paired that with a decent Blast Furnace pulse rifle and a grenade launcher, and I was doing what needed to be done.

Anyway, glad I did it. Recluse is lovely, even with the recent changes, and this of course all means that it'll get hit again by Bungie in two weeks. I'll make the most of it until then. If you have an afternoon to spare, go do it, because there's never been a better time.

Dont be so hard on yourself. Unless I've also become a massively better player this week then all your points about it being easier are true. Mainly the rank floors, but also solo queue. Loss streaks due to quitters used to be the real killer if you were a solo player. I expect this means any rewards from this season and on from crucible will up the requirements to getting to Legend with multiple resets or other grind :(

I'm in, on XBOX (don't hate).

-I bought the £50 didi version. Forsaken not included? WTF?

-HDR on XBONEX is a lot better than PS4Pro, perhaps my setting? Crisper and richer too.

-Nav is terrible, absolutely terrible.

-Lack of df0, Lordscotland, Soi and the G&T team on the whole makes me sad.

-Any XBOX players wanna be my friend?
