Destiny 2: Lightfall

I think I end up killing myself 9 out of 10 times whenever I try to use Wardcliff. Wondering whether non-cluster bomb rocket launchers are going to be viable now, considering the damage buff they received.

30% increase for trace rifles too. Are we back to the Coldheart meta...?

As a PVE guy, Gambit Prime doesn't excite me at all. I'm more interested in the story stuff that's coming - the Vanguard/Drifter thing, the supposed weekly stuff with the Nine, but this expansion just isn't a PVE one, and therefore I'm less interested.

Probably not a great sign that not much has been said in here.

Gambit Prime is...fine. It's hard to see as 3 months worth of content though

Didnt find gambit prime that sweaty in the couple of games I tried, but I guess I was in before that really came to the fore.

Yeah, and then it opens up an arena thing a la blind well/escalation protocol/forge etc...which is not really inspiring me to do plus the same set of ancient unaltered activities for powerful engrams to grind up power for said activity.

might play a bit if there’s a fire team together but I’m quite enjoying using my fairly limited gaming time to play some stuff with a definitive ‘end’ so that’s probably it for me unless i’m teamed up/ the unlikely event I get through my backlog

Yeah but it's also (not really) a PvP one

Gambit Prime is odd. Is probably better than Gambit, but decent teams (with decent gear) are going to dominate even more. It's got to be horrendous solo queuing down the line.

I think it's also quite insular. You do Gambit Prime to do Reckoning. You do Reckoning to get better stuff for Gambit Prime. It''s a cycle, but has no effect on other game elements really (e.g. You did Black Armory Frames. To get more gear/exotics from doing other activities, which could then but uses in strikes/raids/nightfalls/BA/PvP etc) - if the armor drops enhanced perks (and wasn't so chuffin ugly) maybe it'll be relevant

Reckoning is odd there's a lot it does well (Matchmaking, intstant re-runs) but Tier 1 is a pretty easy horde mode (we'll have to see how T2 and T3 differ)

I also can't see a reason (other than the PvP element of Gambit) to get on the Light/Power cycle again (might change with the questline and Xur stuff to come) since there's no content where it matters (IB might matter obviously)

It's all fine - but it feels very very lightweight (which was what a lot feared based on early content maps)

It's all poorly explained too. I was doing the Drifters introductory quests so completed a Gambit Prime bounty then did the Reckoning event, but all I got was a blue armour piece. Tried reckoning again and got another blue.

Maybe Gambit Prime will get easier with the armour roles but the matches I had were a bit of a slog. You can summon the Primevil quickly but the boss stage goes on for ages with what feels like constant invasions and Primevils being healed. It probably does require super coordination but I'm not overly eager to get back to it.

I played two rounds of Gambit Prime and quite enjoyed it but then again, I've enjoyed Gambit more than some of you it seems, despite solo queuing 99% of the time.

It was the other bit I found underwhelming and confusing to begin with. Hopefully, like Black Armoury it'll grow into something more substantial but at least I wasn't gated out of the new things almost immediately like last time.

I had basically no expectations for this but I think I quite like Gambit Prime, at least at the moment. It'll be 'solved' just like the original mode before too long, at which point it will become hateful and I will never touch it. But for the moment it feels quite quick, and reasonably fair, and the boss mechanics are a little more involved than just 'melt the prick', at least for a while.

Still didn't think it was something I was likely to stick at. Then I went into Reckoning with a Nezarec Devourlock and oh my god. I'm a basically invincible purple space wizard of doom with a grenade cooldown of about a second and a half and a super up every minute. Absolute magic.

Guess I'm playing Destiny again.

The Gambit Prime - Reckoning gameplay loop has been a lot of fun so far, certainly enough to keep me playing on the regular. The range of activities available now, in addition to the triumphs, seasonal events and exotic and pinnacle weapon quests is easily enough to keep me ticking over for now. I just wish more people (on Xbox) were playing!

I would say that you should play through the story of Destiny 1 and then move on to Destiny 2's story and multiplayer elements to get a fuller Destiny experience - if you can afford both that is. There are lots of LFG options out there for doing the end-game stuff that requires a fireteam .

It would be a shame to miss out on the raids, but most other activities (in D2) are either matchmade or open-world.

Unfortunately, we are already there. Wait for the 2nd damage phase, melting point and everyone with Wardcliff Coils (it got an insane buff) and its down before the guy who hit the primeval with melting point can get off a shot.

Gambit Prime and Reckoning are interesting inclusions although the latter seems pretty tricky for me right now!

I think the synths are my favourite part of the whole thing; they help establish roles and reward players for doing the thing that they're good at. I end up with a few collector synths whilst fireteam regular @pixelcult does a lot of invading. :)

Top tier (Threat Level/Ikelos) Shotguns still top tier, but not by as much now according to Datto, who did a load of testing in pve on Kalli:

Lord of Wolves beating Acrius on crit damage by about 10k dps is quite a surprise. I've never liked it as it hit like a wet noodle at short range, but maybe its good now?

The Whisper, Sleeper and Thunderlord nerfs are what I dont like. They've essentially held me off going back to Destiny as they were the "fun" guns in the power slot, and they've essentially nerfed the fun. Datto's next video will be interesting to watch.

Should point out Xur is actually selling Forsaken exotics right now! He's in the Hangar at the tower.

Here's what he's got:

Trinity Ghoul - Arc energy bow

Ophidian Aspect - Warlock gauntlets

Oathkeeper - Hunter gauntlets

Ursa Furiosa - Titan gauntlets

Ursa Furiosa gives you the right to bear arms so yes, you need it.

Just realised I misread but I love that joke so I’m leaving it.

Aspects sort of buff a lot of things without really tangibly buffing anything. There are much better lock exotics, it’s the kind of thing you use until you get something proper. Oathkeeper is for people who use bows in PvP which is everyone obviously.

If I'm a Titan main, occasional the other two, do either of those exotics warrant me logging in? I obvs have all the Titan stuff.

Probably not. Just kick back, make yourself a cuppa and know that you're the best main.

Ophidian Aspect's are pretty good, though.

Obviously, the other one's a Hunter exotic. Everyone knows what Hunters are like at this point, surely?

Huh
I think upgrading synthesiser was a mistake
The spec bounties need you to win when you use the highest notes you can make
Second tier of reckoning (where you use the upgraded motes) is 670

The fact I made no comment after simply posting them should have told you enough surely Mike. I mean, yeah I have them all anyway, but have you ever seen me use either of the other 2 on my Hunter/Warlock? The answer to that should obviously be no, because they're shite.

Well, Ophidians is "ok" I guess, but there are better options now. You wouldnt use either of them outside of PvP anyway.

Fuck that D-grade Matthew McConaugheyalike. Vanguard for LIFE.

I dunno. Weird part of my brain feels like Bungie picked up a couple of the Telltale staff after that studio imploded. A lot of "Drifter will remember this choice" vibes. The change in dialogue that you get in Gambit matches is a nice touch though, and the quest is relatively straightforward... but it's all a bit lukewarm, which pretty much sums up this season overall.
