How much are you supposed to just arse about in the hub levels fighting the occasional waves of enemies with other people and doing public events?

Fight forever, Guardian.

(You will find yourself overlevelled for the campaign though. But who gives a shit about the campaign?)

Starting tomorrow, a brand-new feature called the Temporal Surge will become available through the Eververse storefront. Our goals for this new offering are to offer Guardians a limited-time opportunity to directly purchase items from past Bright Engrams. While future Temporal Surges may offer a variety of items, this particular version focuses on Year One emotes.

The Legendary and Rare emotes included in this Temporal Surge will be the same exact items made available in Bright Engrams from previous seasons of Destiny 2. The Exotic emotes are Temporal versions, which will feature recolored effects to allow the original version to retain their uniqueness.

Emotes will be priced as follows:
  • Rare Emotes: 200 Silver (Destiny 2)
  • Legendary Emotes: 500 Silver (Destiny 2)
  • Exotic Emotes: 1,000 Silver (Destiny 2)
The first Temporal Surge will be available from 9 AM PST on November 6 through 9 AM PST on November 13, 2018.

Bit crap you have to use silver to get any of these. I'd have splurged some dust on the sweeper bot one for sure, but no way paying real money for any of this.

Also there is a hotfix tomorrow, so expect to download a patch (no idea of size). No idea what its for, but may do something for people not getting the exotic sparrow for destroying all 40 eggs with the Wish Ender exotic bow.

I actually came across a Not Forgotten hand cannon being used in Crucible on Sunday.  Didn't think I would ever see one of those rare beasts!  Even took a screen shot I will never look at again :)

Dont think I've seen anyone with it yet, even in comp. See Luna's nigh on every match though, sometimes 4 of the buggers on the same team. We had a match with 4 randoms last night, all with Luna's, and it was a surprise when we beat them, and quite easily too. 67 precision hand cannon kills and the damn thing will also be mine, thankfully.

After playing so much comp, I actually dont mind it. What I dont like is that its not really a proper Competitive playlist, just a copy paste of the Valor one with a loss penalty.

Did you get your 2100 points then Ben?

I’ve been hanging around the 1300 mark for a week now, we just cannot get a streak together. A couple of 5 streaks and the reset bumps for the next few weeks then I might get it but every game is so fucking sweaty!

I’m also up to the final step of the Redrix quest too but need to reset my Valor twice more.

Yeah, got the points last night. Just need the precision kills now. Found a good bunch of guys on lfg that communicate well, and it all just clicked the past few days.

Some games have been proper sweaty, but we still managed to pull through. Been a few stomps, but when I check them afterwards, they're usually in the 2400+ glory range, with Luna's, so its no surprise really.

Not sure how long you have with Redrix, but Luna's is until December (think its the 4th or 5th), so it may be the same.

I'm almost there with Luna's, just shy of 1900 points I think.  Had a good couple of runs at the weekend.  Almost got the Redrix too, that has just come out in the wash as I've played so much Crucible lately.

TWAB: - Season 5 is coming, and improvements are inbound with them.

Quote

Performance

Engineer Ben Thompson: We have been paying close attention to reports of long load times on console and are working on improvements to reduce these load times. Let’s break down three distinct performance issues that we are looking into (each with different contributing factors):

      • Starting up the game, signing on, and selecting your character
      • Loading into activities and traveling throughout a destination
      • Loading the player inventory screen and switching between UI tabs

In the upcoming Season 5 update, you should see significant improvements loading into activities and traveling throughout a destination. We've been bringing new content, bug fixes, and patches at a cadence more frequent than we had previously accounted for. That cadence of patching has translated into some unexpected overhead within the code that is responsible for loading data into the game.  All that being said, loading from Orbit into the EDZ should be reduced from over two minutes down to just over one minute and we’re eager to see how things pan out in the wild.

We’re continuing to investigate load times when launching Destiny 2 and when interacting with aspects of the UI. When more information is available, we’ll provide updates.

Super Tuning
Sandbox Design Claude Jerome: Spectral Blades was heavily re-tuned to increase the reliability of melee attacks in PvP and to bolster the effectiveness of Super’s stealth capabilities The following changes are planned to reach these goals:
      • Increasing melee lunge range of all attacks
      • Reducing the cost of Light melee attacks
      • Increasing the number of consecutive hits required to speed up attack rate
      • Decreasing base attack speed to improve hit registration on intended targets
          • Developer Commentary: This is not intended as a nerf. The goal here is to increase the intentionality of the attack rate increase, so that it is most often happening when players are focusing on a single target
      • Retuned melee targeting to have greater emphasis on player input (i.e., where your stick input is directed toward or which target your camera is facing).
          • Developer Commentary: The goal here is to reduce the likelihood of melee targeting picking enemies that you don’t want to hit
      • Increasing viability of Stealth mechanics
          • Added a small amount of damage resistance to the Stealth state
          • Further decrease to super drain when in Stealth state

For Chaos Reach, we’re tuning the energy cost of deactivating Chaos Reach early. The intent of this tuning pass is to make it more rewarding to skillfully time your early deactivation when using this super. Essentially, it will be more punishing to deactivate the Chaos Reach Super extremely early, but less punishing when deactivating later in the Super.

Checkpoint Resets
User Interface Tester Tony Gacia: We’re currently looking to add reset functionality to checkpoints in various activities, like the Last Wish raid. We do not have a specific timeline for when this functionality will be added, but wanted to note that the feedback is under investigation.

Gambit Free Trial
Starts: 9 AM 11/9/2018
Ends: 9 AM 11/11/2018
If you own Forsaken, Double Infamy will also be available in the Gambit playlist. As it’s a full curse week, expect to see some Ascendant Primeval Servitors during your time on the field.

Seasonal To-Do: 4th Edition

We are rapidly approaching the end of Season 4, which is currently set for November 27, 2018. You have a limited number of weeks remaining to complete the following objectives:

Iron Banner
Lord Saladin returns next week for the final Iron Banner of Season 4. While Iron Banner weapons introduced with the release of Forsaken will continue to be available, this will be your final chance to earn Season 4 Iron Banner armor.

Iron Banner
Start: 9 AM 11/13/2018
End: 9 AM 11/20/2018
Additionally, this will be the final chance to earn any Iron Banner Triumphs associated with Season 4.

Triumphs
Some Triumphs have seasonal requirements. While these Triumphs do not have a score associated with them, players may wish to complete them prior to November 27.
  • Vanguard
      • Seasonal Vanguard Rank
  • Crucible
      • Seasonal Valor Rank
      • Seasonal Glory Rank

The last part is important for those going for Luna's Howl especially, as glory will reset at the end of the season. Get that gun now when you can (also means I have less time to get the precision kills than I thought, so I need to get cracking!).

MOTW - Sleeper Simulant is still OP!

I've had the Titan reflecto-legs drop (which seems a bit rubs), and the chest piece that boosts your abilities if you keep using them (which seems spectacular). No new weapons. Out of four exotics, two have been y2 items I didn’t already have.

Interesting news about Forsaken not meeting sale targets, it's good to hear Activision being open about the need to pull the experienced players back in.  For me, Forsaken has been my first experience with any Destiny game and I've been hugely impressed.  Since it's release I'm 114 hours in so far and I've loved every minute.

I don't know the full history as I've only known the game in its current form, Bungie seem to be promising more regular content, so I'd be interested to know what more experienced players would like to see to make it more appealing?

I'm guessing cost is probably one of the main barriers - if I include my PSN subscription, Forsaken + Annual Pass I'm probably about £115 in, not cheap at all but I haven't sunk this much time into a game since the Witcher 3.

Well its who knows but if you've invested this much time are you prepared to take the gamble?

We'll just ignore the 274hour I logged in D1 (which lets face it was nothing John Snow), but I'm up to 197h in D2.  The base game was the best game you ever played that kind of fell apart in the 90th hour - and yet this was somehow a bad thing.  Okay CoO was pretty much wasted but Warmind was actually pretty fun.

Forsaken managed to fix pretty much all the missteps that they made with base D2 and its still dragging me back each day and what are we 10 weeks in since release.

I bought the semi crazy bells and whistles D2 physical edition and then the bog standard Forsake digital download - it comes to £120 or so all in.

I don't think any other game has given me a better £ per hour return.

So yeah I'm in for what comes next...and in all honesty I'll just settle for more stuff in the same vein...

Forsaken is decent and back on track but I still don’t have the same compulsion to play it that I had for Destiny, part of that is the awful PvP that again is better in Forsaken but still a hot mess compared to Destiny let alone the many vastly better dedicated games.

Gambit is great fun, I hope they really build on that in the future.

But then there's the co-op PvE, which in Forsaken is not only better in many ways than the best of D1's, but absolutely destroys anything else out there - that's if you play all the content including end game.

I think Bungie need to focus on keeping the quality of that experience up, and if they do that, eventually they'll be fine. Key to that is to keep developing the sort of continually evolving content cycles that have elevated Forsaken (and to a lesser extent Warmind) way above the base game - like the Dreaming City cycle, hidden stuff like the Whisper quest and the Shattered Throne, and raid experiences as great as Last Wish is. Around the corner we have stuff like Anthem looking to compete in the co-op PvE/RPG space, and Bungie will know they can't afford to let this toehold slip. I'm not surprised Forsaken didn't sell as well as Activision's expectations, but I'm slightly reassured that they've recognised (at least publicly, for now) that the way forward is to do even more to re-sell the game to core players, because at heart these people are PvE players who crave long-term challenge and investment.

Forsaken, in its evolving PvE endgame activities has, as they acknowledge, brought about a big increase in numbers over a dying year one D2, but I'm convinced the key to doing better is to concentrate on strengthening the PvE side of things, as that's where Destiny is unique. People who love 'vastly better dedicated PvP games' will always prefer them over anything Destiny can throw up, but I've yet to see anything out there that can touch what Bungie have done on the long-term PvE side of things. Forsaken may well be the best online PvE co-op game there's ever been. With Anthem and others around the corner, I just hope they can play to those unique strengths and keep delivering endgame PvE of this calibre, and not get too sidelined by what is, I feel, essentially a sideline - the PvP components of the game. I mean, its great if it's there and works well, but it's not what the game's really all about. And I very much doubt it'll ever be the thing that makes the coin, or makes the impact. that the raids, raid lairs, dungeons, and other compelling team-based PvE do for Destiny. If they can do all that better than anyone else - and they definitely can - their main job for me is to sell that again to the public and get them re-engaged in it. Everything else is just the garnish.

To answer @Jigsaw Monkey's question, that's what they need to do - keep building on the quality of of the PvE activities and reward and investment systems, and the basic world building and lore, that Forsaken has established. Treat that as the new baseline, and in particular keep throwing us surprises throughout the year. Keep people on their toes and engaged and thrilled by the events that can happen and secrets that can be unearthed in an actually evolving game world. If they can do that, the cost of the base game and annual pass isn't an issue - it's about £60 a year (or less) in practice, and that's really not off-putting at all if it ends up being the game you've played for most of that year. I've spent £50 on games - decent ones at that - that haven't kept me interested for a tenth, or even a hundredth as long. And no, I don't just mean because of some grind - I mean because the content itself remains challenging, and interesting, and fun to play. When Destiny hits its stride, like it has again with Forsaken, it's just the best thing out there when measured by all those metrics. If anything, this last two months has been a case of having too much to do that you would actually like to do and not enough time to do it. Which is kind of a nice problem to have with an expansion that cost something like £25.

Holy fuck,  I finally got Luna's Howl.  That last stretch was tough, difficulty ramped right up and I was within 1 win no less than 4 times when it would match me against god like 4 man stacks or with complete numpties.

Now I can rest.

Well done, man. Because I've pissed about on all three characters so much and I got to 2100 quite quickly, I was still on hand cannon final blows (on all three of the bastards). Got that done last night and then got 100 of the solar kills this morning. Only another 100 of them and 100 hand cannon precision kills to go. What have I done?

Thanks, it's a great hand cannon!  Not sure I'd want to go through that 3 times though :)  Just finished the Redrix's Broadsword quest too....man that is a beast in crucible as well.  Once you trigger the desperado perk it's devastating!

Good job, especially this late in the season. Got mine last night as well. I've been on the precision kills for nearly a week as I thought we had loads more time, then the TWAB came out and discovered the season ends on the 27h. That kicked me up the arse to get it done.

I've had Redrix for a little while now, and I'm not mad keen due to its slow rate of fire. Either it needs a buff to its fire rate, or it needs to hit harder to compensate in the current time to kill.

Did you do it on 3 characters for the triumph, or just to get rid of the quests from your pursuits?
