Destiny 2: Lightfall

I am very far from good at Gambit, but fuck me some people are infuriating. Sitting there with 65 notes banked and ALL THREE team mates with 10+ motes running around shooting enemies and not banking. For like two minutes.

Fuck. Me

Anyway, it’s be good to play some gambit with an actual team. Do MUKRs often play together?

After my return to Destiny 2 a few weeks ago (played the two previous expansions and then a Foresaken), reddit was covered in angry comments about poor Gambit players. So I thought, being awful at Destiny, I’d give it a miss.

Turns out it’s possibly my favourite mode and literally all you have to do is not be a complete moron.

Some of the crazy moves I’ve seen... not just holding onto motes when it’s banking time, but holding 11 and then leaping into a huge mess of enemies, seemingly with no super.

I’d say that a big on-screen ‘BANK NOW’ cue could help, but the drifter is pretty explicit about it as is.

Yeah I love the mode. Had a couple of great games this morning where we’ve snatched unlikely victories and it’s fantastic. The first competitive online mode I’ve enjoyed in years.

I think it would be some next level shit with four clan mates on comms though.

Finished the Malfeasance quest today.  Only played a little with it, but I suspect it is going to be a beast in Crucible as well as Gambit.  Almost zero recoil, very high impact and good range...never mind the stacking rounds thing it does.  Looks cool too.

Inadvertently completed like 1/10th of the Luna’s Howl questline and then looked up the other requirements. Nah mate, you’re alright.

Also done a discord group as that’s what all the cool kids seem to be doing https://discord.gg/Eq4aksZ

Log on to discord and sign up using your PSN for all your raid administrations and SOS calls when you’re soloing a nightfall boss.

Those Crucible questlines are annoying, because both of them look relatively reasonable apart from one totally insane step that pushes it out of 'lengthy, but doable' into 'fucking hell, do they expect me to pack in my job now?'. I was quite into the one that isn't for Luna's Howl, and was enjoying racking up pulse rifle kills, until I saw the one step which is 'reset your crucible rank five times in a single season', which is just nuts.

In general, the Crucible ranks feel much too spaced out. The ranking stuff works in Call of Duty because you'll level up every two or three games, and you're constantly on the verge of getting something new; in this, it feels like it takes forever to go up a rank, so it gets relegated to the background. There's no instant gratification, which is weird in context with the rest of the game, which is constantly chucking stuff at you.

Gambit seems to rank up at a fair lick and the drops when you move up a category are alright. But no idea what’s going on in Crucible tho, I’m at Legend, am I supposed to reset now? Will that mess up the quests? What’s fable? As ever, you need a phd in analysing Reddit to figure out any of this.

Never gonna do the Luna’s Howl, not even gonna pretend to think I’m some sort of  headshotting dead-eyed pro master (in reality only winning out because of a +8 Resilience). Spray and pray Tigerspite thx.

You have to reset your rank, but doing so gets you a powerful drop or masterwork cores, or even both if you're super lucky (I think).

I've been chipping away at the Pulse Rifle one rather than the hand cannon one, as that ones far more reasonable, and pulses are ridiculous right now in Crucible. The other thing is once you get the pulse, I think Shaxx's rank up packages may have the chance to give you random rolled versions of it if you dont like its base perks.

Wait...what?!?!?! You have got to be fucking kidding! I have a job, a social life and I'm not an unemployed teen!

For those wondering how to get the Gambit triumph "Mote Thief" (As an invader in Gambit, collect 3 Motes in the opposing arena and return safely), it has nothing to do with killing opposing players at all. In fact the triumph not stating anything about killing other players should have given the game away.

You have to pick up motes from the npc enemies the opposing players have killed before they've picked them up.

Considering every rando I play with manages to get most of the motes from enemies I've killed in record time, and is probably the same on the enemy team too, this occurrence will very rarely ever happen. Unless its a team of 4 of course, then you wont get any motes, only a Sleeper in the face as soon as you go through the portal.

I can confirm you can pick up motes from npc enemies when invading, as I got 2 in a game earlier. One more mote despawned before I could pick it up () so I could have got the triumph easily if I had been paying attention, as I didnt die before being pulled back.

You cant pickup motes from enemy players when invading, as when an invader kills a player they may have the animation of motes popping out when they die, but they instantly vanish in mid-air. The only way to get motes when invading is if they are on the floor, and that means an enemy player has either killed the npc enemies and they've dropped motes, or the enemy player has been killed by an npc enemy, dropping whatever he's been carrying.

So last night I noticed three of my clan were teamed up and playing. However due to a very long story there is one member of the clan who doesn't talk to me and doesn't join on me nor I him when they are in teams.

I thought I would go play some Gambit on my own and I landed with a bunch of randoms and looked over and recognised the outfits of my clansmen...I was up against the three of them and a random. Fuck.

Now two of the guys in the team are two of my best mates in real life so I felt bad playing against them and the other guy - well I wasn't fussed whether he lived or died. Game kicks off and my team are focussed on motes - I'm hanging back shooting everything for them but letting them get motes. As soon as the portal opens I'm in. Snipe, snipe, snipe and I kill the three of them. Happens again and the next time I smash one of them as he is running with 15 motes.

The guy who jumps into our world is none other than the guy who doesn't like me - he has Sleeper but I have my trusty sniper rifle and two head shots and he is down.

Eventually we won both games quickly and I had 20+ Guardian kills. Felt a wee bit bad but ah well :)

We done a raid last night! Well, we finally got a team together for one. Breezed the first encounter and made decent headway in the second one. It's a banger alright. Really enjoyed it. Then did all the Dreaming City stuff inside an hour and got some bad, demoralising drops. Guess you can't have everything.

I really, really love the Ascendant Challenges. I think they've been the best bit of the game so far (though I haven't seen enough of the dungeon I can't remember the name of). Just very different, and challenging, gently puzzle-y, and alternately scary and hilarious. They're essentially the raid experience distilled down to a 15-minute thing you can do solo. Cracking stuff.

We are at the final boss with our 10pm group, it has been outstanding so far, genuinely some of the best encounters across both titles.

Environments are excellent, bosses are good, mechanics are tricky but once you get them down, it’s just great fun.

Hopefully we we will nail him / her / it this week. ^_^

Can you solo them?  I’ve been avoiding them as I can’t get a group together at the times I play. What light level do you need to be so it’s not too impossible?

I did last week's ascendant challenge solo at around 525 power. The fight at the end was fine with a super and a Sleeper Simulant. It was just the Warlock jumping long distances on to rotating rocks with no checkpoints that came before that made me want to throw my controller through the TV.
