The slowish progress is great. The fact that the power curve isn't distributed very well isn't. Like, who bothers with the 100k Nightfall challenge? More people should be encouraged to, as its great fun.

Well, there be emblems. I want the emblems.

Finished the Foresaken campaign over the weekend — floating around 504 ish and still highly addictive. I think I have to commit to, one day, trying to find a way into doing the new raid though — I didn’t do Leviathan, but at this point if I’m not powering up for the raid, there’s a risk of it becoming pointless.

What are the other high level ‘This is why I still need to grind’ activities?

At 504, there's lots of reasons to grind - there's probably greater variety of tiered-power activities than ever. It ends up being the raid, Iron Banner, and the once-every-three-week Shattered Throne mission though. That's the very top end of things (IB because the power delta is so steep now). And the 100k Nightfall if you like big scores and banners and shit.

Oh god. You get like four per cent per yellow bar remember.

Actually with lost sectors counting now it shouldn’t be too bad.

20% for heroic PE

50% from the daily adventure

It’s still exciting. Guess I will need to get into some of the more social stuff — I’ve been essentially solo/matchmade up to this point, but if I’m gonna feed the addiction, may as well make it worthwhile!

I’ll google, but while I’m posting — does Mercury only have one PE? Never has a milestone felt so far away.

I've been using the Fighting Lion tonight (the 1-shot Energy slot grenade launcher if you aren't familiar) after getting it out of my Collection, anyone else tried it recently? I discovered that 1) it uses Primary Ammo, meaning you get a whole mess of rounds and 2) one of its perks guarantees a primary ammo block on a kill, so you never run out! I've just been using it in Gambit and it's great for clearing groups quickly & generating stacks of motes. Also getting the trigger release right to burst it in the middle of a big group is extremely satisfying.

I wouldn't use Fighting Lion for any serious high-level content but to run strikes and stuff it's a lot of fun. The key is getting the grenades to explode in groups of enemies and then picking off the wounded ones with the follow-up shot, as this will give you an instant reload. You can get some really nice chains going when you get the timing down. I never would have used it but due to the new high infusion costs found it being the highest level gun I had in my armoury for a short period as I was levelling up and I ended up really enjoying it.

I think we think it's reverting to an earlier (lower corruption) week this week, and that therefore we've probably seen a lot of the content at this point, but also no-one knows for sure. I think there's still quests that might not have unlocked yet, and it's possible one of those links to the looping structure I guess.

Also, I think the Ascendant Challenge will be new rather than a repeat.

I think what we got was pretty good at presenting an "ongoing" world - even if it was window dressing.

Still really enjoyed pootering about the Dreaming City last night and seeing what's about, what's changed etc (and noticing for the first time you can see raid bridge above where Petra is)

Don't know what it is - but the challenge is entirely new it seems

Was online last night for the clan level up - never seen that effect before!

Yeah the Ascendant Challenge is new and very good it is too. Really like those things, and I wonder how many of them there are. Spider's Wanted bounty is the same as last week's, so I assume that once they run out it's just a dice roll which one we get each week.

Finally got a gun I liked that didn't have Outlaw on it – a Tigerspite with Triple Tap and Grave Robber, which was a really fun playstyle until I got a more powerful one with Outlaw and Kill Clip, which is just so obviously better. I'm going to make sure I keep hold of Fun Guns for farming, rather than just using BiS all the time.

What should I be doing with glimmer during the Forsaken campaign? I seem to permanently be at 100k...

Buy whatever's going for glimmer from Spider so you have a frequently high amount of any material for infusion. Keep around 30-50k for buying bounties from all the NPCs or for rainy day material purchases.

After the campaign there's some pricier bounties, but you'll probably have 100k again by that point. Glimmer is abundant in post-forsaken Destiny, probably because it costs nothing to apply shaders!

It's good that they have the option to skip the campaign, but it seems a bit odd that it's all or nothing, and if you choose to skip, then you can never replay that content. Why not just have the ability to restart each campaign from the director?

I wish there was an option to unplay(!?) Osiris tbh.

As good as Forsaken content has been I also don’t want to play it again so that’s bad enough

I'd assume because it'd break something in the wierdo approach they've taken to missions/adventures/pursuits in the fundamental D2 architecture.

And I base this on absolutely no knowledge of computer programming or design.

Get ready. Unlocking the Dreaming City has to be done for each character too I believe

I have no knowledge of development or design either, but this seems unlikely. You can select this week's campaign missions from the Vanguard menu in the director - what's stopping them from putting all of the missions on another menu?

They can probably do that as bodge fix (not sure they would for the limited number of people)

I meant I could see why they wouldn't be able to run "the campaign"

Nothing except narratively it would make no sense given what happens during the D2 campaign.

But then again Cayde is still alive and well is some strikes so already makes no sense

I somehow doubt that among all the components of Bungie's design brief for Destiny, narrative coherence is one of the critical points. In any case, they already did this in D1, putting all the old 'quests' behind a separate menu aka the quest kiosk. In D2 it'll be a feature that, given their priorities for developing vanilla last year and fixing it this year, they simply haven't had time to implement. Yet.

Well that didn't last long...

Think I got pretty lucky with the drops this week and finishing the raid, Malfeasance and Wish-Ender quests at just the right time helped too. Also shitting in a bucket and playing the game more than Datto has probably had something to do with it.

Heh, yeah it wears its exotic moniker with aplomb. Warlock is technically my second character (main is a hunter which is currently languishing at 597) which is why the gear there is a bit of an ugly hodge-podge of random stats and perks, because I haven’t been infusing my best pieces (I’m as much a masterwork core pauper as anyone). But since I’ve got that chest piece it’s been space magic all the way. Explosions for days! It gets kind of ridiculous when you pair it with Ace of Spades or a certain weapon from the raid

Spoiler

the curated roll masterwork hand cannon AKA Fatebringer

Can’t really imagine wanting to use any other exotic armour piece because it’s just so powerful. Looks like something some chakra-aligning San Fran marketing executive would wear to Burning Man to my eyes though, which is a bit of a shame.
