Destiny 2: Lightfall

I've played Forsaken against Donut (after being confused he wasn't in the MUK)

He doesn't need no stinking exotics.

(Other than quests) I've got 10 or so now - 2 new (2 Tailed Fox and the Warlock Rift/Reload boots)

They're ok. Just not the Chromatic Robe or whatever it is

I hate to be that guy but the first game of Gambit I played last evening an ascendant showed up in round two. I nearly cried because - as always - my team seemed to be made up of...let's just say indecisive team mates (save the standard guy who is always on your team who jumps through the teleporter to promptly die 9 times out of 10), and I was sure the other team would annihilate their primeval long before we did.

Thankfully, somehow, we did it. Which was nice. Still lost the match of course.

Is that the part servitude part vagina thing!? If so we beat that today and got a quest to do!

I've done it all already so if you need any help, don't ask me :P

Considering how bad you are at Gambit, you won't be completing the final step anytime anyway ;)

Not too difficult. I did it in an afternoon. After initially disliking the gun, I'm starting to warm to it. I've yet to find something better for prematurely ending an onrushing super in Crucible. 5 shots and laugh as the void Titan or void Warlock try rushing you and then die as the explosion strips their health away.

I just completed the Malfeasance quest myself. Fuck me, what a grind that was. I do love me some Gambit and am very close to resetting my Infamy rank but there were some points where the frustration was off the charts. Definitely an exotic that makes you work for it though, which is as it should be.

Got quite lucky with the final step as the opposing team all ran and hid back at their spawn, grouping themselves up very conveniently for a well-timed Dawnblade. :hat:

Noice, will have a go at the quest tomorrow then! Ben got well jealous that I had an Ikellos shotgun in the vault I’d never used... it looks shit on paper but my word it’s good fun in use!!!!

I think we think it's reverting to an earlier (lower corruption) week this week, and that therefore we've probably seen a lot of the content at this point, but also no-one knows for sure. I think there's still quests that might not have unlocked yet, and it's possible one of those links to the looping structure I guess.

Also, I think the Ascendant Challenge will be new rather than a repeat.

Whereas it’s still all I want to play. At home with the baby today as my wife is sick and decided to start my hunter at last. Mad that it’s taken four weeks for me to even have a chance to get a third character up and running. It’ll be a while before she’s fully up to speed too, since it’s reset day already.

Third character?! I've not even touched a second one yet. There seems to be something to do for powerful rewards or the chance at quest progression every night.

Over time there’s less value in doing every little thing the game offers you, and I’m more drawn to being able to do things I like multiple times than I am to doing something I don’t like just because there’s a daily. I’d rather do the strikes weekly on a second character than the crucible daily on my main, that kinda thing. Gambit is fast headed for the ignore pile too.

Going to try and be smart this week, do the dreaming city stuff first and work backwards from there. I stupidly only did it on my warlock last night and got more power in a couple of hours than I did for the entire week doing everything else.

Yeah, I don't really have the time for number 2 either. So much to get done.

Same, not that I want a number 2 (Titan) but may do a Hunter soon!

The balance seems pretty good, the PvP is still sketchy but Fortnite fills that hole in my gaming life but there is lots to do and a reason to do it but I’m pleased to be able to keep a lid on the addiction and play other stuff.

You're right about there being less value as time goes on in doing every activity. The problem (if you think it's a problem) is in what retains the most value. Current reports suggest that once you hit 580, only four activities continue to offer rewards that are greater than +1. They are clan bounties, bosses 4 and 5 (and maybe 3) of the raid, the Might of the Traveller Gambit bounty, and random Prime engrams. So if you want to max your rewards in terms of power, you have to play Gambit a fair bit, and do the last half of the raid (the first half won't cut it). It still strikes me as a bit odd that stuff like the 100k Nightfall soft caps at 540 whereas just slaying as many yellow/orange bars for hours on end - say, in PEs and enemy-moving-agaist-each-others - can give you two or three engrams per day that go all the way to 600 if you put mad grinding in. So just mindlessly doing that for as long as possible on your highest character will get you the highest possible rewards.

It doesn't really matter beyond 580 anyway, I guess; unless you want to do Iron Banner, where there's a surprisingly steep power delta right at the top of the curve, and Shattered Throne, if for some reason you're still lagging behind 590 in a couple of weeks' time. I can't see many people actually being under 590 in a couple of weeks, though, unless they're playing very casually. Or, er, if they happen to get five or six edge transits in a row as their tier 3 powerful engrams for the week.

Note to Bungie: this is not an invitation to give me five or six edge transits in a row as my tier 3 powerful engrams for the week.

I do think that’s ok, with the possible exception of the raid which should surely offer big rewards all the way through. I accept gambit is a priority for Bungie, and a matter of taste — that some people, and all scumbags, enjoy.

I’m a way off 580 at the moment but in theory, a few guaranteed boosts per week, with the network of dailies, clan bounties and prime engrams taking you all over the place with a steadyish flow of slow and occasionally fast progress... that sounds alright to me.

I think maybe once they’ve got a new name for masterwork cores they should rethink the ‘powerful gear’ label as it’s not particularly helpful as it stands.
