I think it would help if the UI did a better job of showing you how many motes everyone on your team has. I've lost count of the number of times I've been sat on four or nine or 14 motes and had one taken off my toenails by a team-mate with two motes to his name. They should display them on screen permanently, there's plenty of room.

Mote pickup radius needs work too. If I shoot something and walk over its corpse the second it dies I shouldn't have to wait for the motes to rise, spread and hit the ground before I can pick them up. Gimme my shit.

They could maybe make the team mote count flash a different colour to make it more clear that the team can instabank for a Primevil. Another emote – MikeDracula tells ohnathan to bank motes – would probably help too.

Oh, and ban Sleeper. Fucking thing.

I definitely feel your pain on that one. You're torn between getting close up and aggressive because they don't last long, and then you don't get it because they're the only thing in Destiny with a one-pixel pickup zone.

My top tips for those still struggling after only a month of play with the intricate mechanics of Gambit.

  • When the Drifter, Matthew McConaughey, announces in a very distinctive southern drawl that it's time to bank your motes and summon a Primeval, this means it's time to bank your motes and summon a Primeval. This means going to the bank, and placing the motes you are carrying in the bank. This will summon a Primeval. The killing of the Primeval is the object of the game, not the collecting of motes. You do not win if you have collected more motes than all your other team members combined, as much as the thought of that might appeal to your inner hoarder. 'It's time to bank your motes and summon a Primeval' does not mean not banking them, and it does not mean continuing to collect more motes and waiting until invaded to rush around the arena collecting even more motes so that the invader doesn't feel his trip has been in vain when he pops you like an overstuffed Piñata.
  • Don't invade when the enemy has nothing to lose from being killed. This includes when they are carrying no motes at all, and have not summoned a primeval. Because they have nothing to lose then. You do not get points for killing people, or for wasting everyone's time.
  • Don't invade when it is likely you will not get kills. This includes when you have no heavy, no super, and no idea what a gun does or how to run. You do not get points for doing nothing but standing at the invasion portal doing nothing but emoting until it is activated and then diving through every time it is active with no ammo and doing a dance on the enemy's centre plate until you are spotted and shot down like a dog. Not even style points. Not even dog points. Nothing.
  • If you do by some miracle manage to summon an actual Primeval - shoot the fucking envoys first.

Sorry - that last one probably should have gone into my advanced tips series. But that can wait until the basics are mastered, such as the actual fucking object of the cunting game mode, and how to listen to a man telling you to do a simple fucking thing and then fucking doing it. Alright? Alright.

Invading is a great tactic regardless of them hav8ng a primeval or motes, delays them from getting motes etc and a well oiled team should send someone in every portal but outside of that cracking tips sheet!

It's not "should we invade?" But when. Doing so just after they banked everything is bad timing, doing so just before is best timing. Too often, I see the first team to get 25 come across and wreck the other team (great play) and then the second team get their 25 and go straight over when the other team has nothing (poor play, IMO.) Go instead when they've actually collected some motes. Set them back, not just delay them.

Of course, sometimes delay is the best option, but generally you want to send a killer (or whoever's got most heavy/super) over when they're sitting on a shit ton.

Its easy to chain invades so if we are playing well as a team we will be delaying and denying them of motes, if you have 25 motes they should to so going in straight away will give you more denying and delaying advantage. We’ve killed a primeval with the other side having never banked enough to invade as even during primeval stage you go in and smash them! No doubt 4 solo players but it was still epic team work!

Heavy and super is well overrated when invading, my best kill count is 17 and mostly with my pulse as everyone expects you to be hiding with sleeper!

Ah thanks for clarifying gang. Assumed Unstable was a tier-four thing, didn't realise it's the heroic trigger. Makes sense now.

I think Blind Well is really no different to Archon's Forge, Court Of Oryx and Escalation Protocol in that the rewards don't feel appropriate for the effort past a certain point on the power curve BUT it doesn't matter because there's a weekly bounty with a powerful gear reward that pushes people towards it. Instancing is a crapshoot as ever but I've found that if you wait for one other person to turn up and kick off a tier one, it fills up soon enough. And I do enjoy the mode, even when Donut doesn't shut up about where the Shiny Man is.

Next time we do it I'll be keeping the Shiny Men a secret.

Some big changes announced in this week's TWAB. Before that, though, confirmation that the Shattered Throne will only be available until reset and will be back in three weeks' time.

Changes to come:

Masterwork cores and Exotics

Quote

We have been monitoring Core supplies and the numbers aren’t as high as we’d like. We are planning to create more reliable and plentiful Core sources. We are going to rename Masterwork Cores so their purpose is more obvious.

Exotic Drop Rates

Goals for Exotic drop rates

  • Exotics are intended to be meaningful long-term chases. Finding an Exotic should be rare but impactful.

Problems with the current Exotic drop rates

  • Right now we are falling short of the “impactful” part of our goal. There’s nothing exciting or powerful about getting your fourth Fighting Lion when all you really want is a Two-Tailed Fox.

Plans for addressing those problems

  • We plan to increase the chance for Exotics to drop something you don’t already have.

Iron Banner power and rewards

Quote

The first change is to reduce the completion values for several of the event bounties. Currently it’s very difficult for a lower-Power player to complete the bounties due to the gameplay disadvantages they experience.

  • Lightbearer: Super kills has been reduced to 20 from 25
  • Iron in the Blood: Match completions has been reduced to 15 from 30
  • Shine On: Orbs generated has been reduced to 50 from 100
  • Iron Victory: Match wins has been reduced to 7 from 10
  • To Be Precise: Precision kills has been reduced to 50 from 100
  • All in a Week’s Work: Kills has been reduced to 150 from 250

The second change is that all bounties will now provide powerful gear.

Oh my!

On the Iron Banner damage delta generally

Quote

09272018_IB_Power_Curve.jpg

As you read left-to-right across the graph, you’re seeing the effects of having Power that amount lower than the player you’re attacking.

For example:

  • If I’m at the same level as my opponent, my outgoing damage is multiplied by 1.0, so there is no change from normal Crucible.
  • If I’m 100 Power below my opponent, my outgoing damage is multiplied by 0.8, or a 20% reduction.
  • If I’m 200 Power below my opponent, my outgoing damage is multiplied by 0.5, or a 50% reduction, and I am really sad about what’s happening to me in this match.

Oh, one more thing: THIS CURVE ALSO WORKS THE OTHER WAY.

If you’re 20 Power above your opponent, for example, you will do a bonus 10% damage against them.

(And so on, down the curve.)

I hope this explanation helps you to anticipate what is happening out there in the field, where numbers and bullets are flying around.

Nice one on the exotic change, but I have to ask why didnt they implement that sooner? Good anyway.

Oh my indeed at the Iron Banner bounties. The numbers needed tweeking for sure (100 orbs of light?!? wtf?) but all bounties being powerful seems excessive.

Exotic change good. Iron Banner bounty changes weird though. Drop the requirements for a few of them to make them less grindy and align the most challenging with powerful rewards (100 orbs was nuts for a legendary below your max). The new way seems a bit too forgiving to me when there are already so many sources of powerful engrams outside of the raid.

No specific date mentioned for these changes either. I would say that exotic one needs to come asap, but then again I'm not likely to see an exotic drop anytime soon so there's actually no real rush!

Meh next time it rolls around (4 weeks I assume) people will be pretty high level anyway

Becomes a nice "catch up" mechanic as well (like Y1 IB) for those significantly behind

Also we don't know if they're tier 1,2 or 3 powerful?

No comments on Edge Transit? I got 4 last night. One regular purple engram, 2 powerful engrams and a prime.

Oh, I got 2 Ten Paces in subsequent drops and then the Crucible helmet for doing the daily crucible game. However, that pushed me into the next valor rank and I got another.

Duplications in general are all too frequent.

Play Gambit if you want a rocket launcher, I've built a shed out of them.

This is kinda my point. I've had rocket launchers from Gambit, Iron Banner, and the Raid. What about crucible, and just normal play?

I think you will find you just need to play it less and then you will get less Edge Transits....... /Bungo

Annoyingly, Edge Transit is actually good so I can’t be totally disappointed when I get one but a change would be nice.

Yeah it’s great, I’ve had 300 and my current fave has sticky grenades and I love it!

Is it bad of me, that the first thought I had for my newly acquired Malfeasance is wishing I could shoot it and explode my stupid, pig ignorant and - must need assistance with breathing - rando 'team mates'?

Bungie certainly know how to make a quest to put your patience for your fellow man through the wringer.

Gambit has a habit of turning me into a frothing maniac spitting expletives like a child. I've seen some truly inexplicable behavior from teammates. I now just down a fistful of benzodiazepines whenever I dive in and I froth a little less.

Best rocket launchers come from Gambit (void), Iron Banner (Solar) and Banshee (Arc). Banshee's has tracking as the intrinsic perk, so if you get cluster you're laughing, whatever the 2nd perk is.

Yeah, the power weapon slot feels pretty limited now, not helped by a lack of appropriate weapons that came with Forsaken.

Machine guns coming in the next dlc (Black Armoury). I wont care after that :D

I’d go so far as to say that the Wish-Ender exotic quest/Shattered Throne dungeon is up there with the very best content Destiny has ever had. It’s so good. Feels like a big homage to Dark Souls which is always a good thing. It showers you with proper powerful gear rewards too (none of that +1 bullshit) so if you’re of a high enough power level to attempt it before the reset I’d highly recommend it. I’m edging towards 590 on my main character just from the drops in this quest and I haven’t even attempted the raid yet this week.

I kind of like Blind Well for the same reason I like EP - when it works and you get a good crowd, there's an exciting feeling of "shit, someone's activated Blind Well" and running to the spot and seeing a mess of explosions roughly where the boss is whilst everyone goes in. When there are enough people you get some satisfying loops where everyone's keeping everyone else's super topped up with all of the orbs that are spilling out. The rewards may be bad but I enjoy the chaos.

Even though I'm apparently woefully underlevelled.

I couldn't sleep so got up and played some Gambit. A nice Prime dropped and as I had a few rewards to cash in I went back to the tower.

I found  the Cryptarch surrounded by players and dishing out engrams at 540! (I'm 526) I spunked all my shards- over 90 of them buying engrams. Nice selection of armour and weapons. Great!

It wasn't until I started using them and seeing my power go down that I realised I'd misread the value in my sleep deprived state. They were of course for 340.

Fuck.
