I just got very lucky indeed and had the EP shotgun drop after 9 boss kills. It's a fucking beast! Are the others worth getting? I never use SMGs and have a nice selection of snipers so the EP one would have to be pretty good for me to consider farming for it.

The sniper seemed good - but I imagine Whisper beats it.

SMG looked interesting more than powerful

Took my 9 to get 1st weapon, other 2 drops in next 4-5. Got a group of 7 or 8 that were smashing it, Just constant chaining supers.

Is anyone here on PS4 planning to raid?

I've been working my way through the raid this weekend & making posts in the dedicated raid thread as I go. Think I may be the only one who's attempted it so far though because no-one else has posted in there yet. Think there are a couple of pre-set teams in the clan that raid together but I'd be happy to be part of a new one after the next reset if we have enough people.

We just completed the first encounter tonight - we'd been in to see it the week of release but only stayed about half an hour to check it out. We're a bit higher power now and decided to have a proper go, but only just managed to squeak it with a clutch at the end. A few of us then found some secret stuff and worked out the mechanics for the second encounter, but we almost certainly won't be able to convene again for at least a couple of weeks (and will have to swap someone out even then). The speed of completion wouldn't bother me per se, but it gets progressively more difficult to keep everyone blind as time goes on, and that's the most important thing really. So no idea yet if we'll end up sticking it out.

I can say, though, that's its been absolutely great so far. Head and shoulders above any raid in D2 in the first couple of bits - just for atmosphere and feel alone. It actually feels like part of the main game, for one thing. But the encounters themselves are great fun too.

I'm not going to read or post in the raid thread in case of coming across spoilers. If we give up trying to get a blind run - or manage to complete one - I'll do that then. But for now, it's still quarantine time for me.

Everyone after Outlaw on hand cannons needs to take a look at this alternative:

42420442_10155453839045146_4109181922901

Both Reload and Stability, and It procs after only one headshot too, rather than multiple, like the perk implies, but seems to increase in speed the more hits you do. Procs whether you kill the target with a headshot or not. Not as fast as Outlaw, but it gets to the same speed after around 4/5 headshots, and is still considerably faster to reload any gun than without the perk.

Hey, let's play a game!

Finally managed to complete the Powerful Gear Iron Banner quest today for getting 100 precision kills. Here's my loadout before I cashed in the reward:

Power - 549

Primary - 550

Secondary - 548

Heavy - 552

Helmet - 551

Arms - 548

Chest - 552

Legs - 543

Mark - 555

The reward dropped at 554.

Which slot do you think this stupid fucking shithouse bastard game dropped it in? Answers on a postcard please.

Having done 7-8 player EP last night (Supers everywhere, orbs, rockets etc, covering and revives) it just makes me sad that Bungie haven't sorted matchmaking for these types of activities.

It was just fun and spectacular looking - and it's so hard to make it happen (I lucked into a 4 man group going at Wave 4 - and then DestinyLFG some more people in, and another wandered in)

How does one get a good supply of masterwork cores outside of pulling tricks for Spider, as someone who didn’t play during the masterwork era of D2 I’m properly struggling to get enough to actually infuse at the moment?

If there's an answer for this I'd love to hear it!

There isn't. Buy two or three from Spider a day and only infuse when you really need or want to. I have a fairly stable stock of between 15 and 20.

I think the dial isn't quite in the right place, but I actually quite like the way they've structured it. I think infusion should be meaningful and masterworks should be endgame stuff for people who are at cap and have started working on builds. I think the game could do with a daily bounty or two that pay out cores, but that's precisely the sort of thing Bungie will do in a few months so it can call it a QoL change.

The "solution" is I think (at least for armor) is to make sure you're infusing like into like so it only costs Glimmer.

They don't want to throw MWCs at you because everyone would be Tier10ing their armor/weapons all over the shop - but it's pain trying to get decent rolled stuff to high levels.

At 552 I've made a gear set up I'm happy with and started modding stuff - basically all perks are focused on either kinetic, or snipers (my sniper is agile, fast reloading and with great handling and acquisition :D) - with one of each ammo finder.

Then I realised I didn't have a great sniper (rapid fire, low impact, full master work). Need a high impact one.

The punitive cost of infusing does at least mean there's an incentive to try out new gear, rather than just immediately infuse them into whatever Reddit has deemed to be the best weapon. There are some fun SMGs and sidearms that I probably wouldn't have bothered to use if I could have just chucked them into Crimson or Origin Story without thinking about it.

I'm a strictly casual player who just enjoyed watching the numbers slowly creep up and actually stopped playing at the old soft level cap because... the numbers stopped going up easily. But I really like the extra mile you have to go to infuse equipment now, before it was just a bit of semi-mindless admin - and when there was an extra bit of effort involved, it suddenly didn't seem worth bothering with.

Now infusions do feel like a thing I'm actively planning and working for. It's all still busy work but Bungie have managed to pull off some kind of alchemy that makes that busy work seem like part of the core gameplay. Making the hoops slightly more difficult to jump through was enough to stop me playing, but making them massively more difficult to jump through? Feels like I'm actually doing something epic.

I'm not. It's all still compulsion loops and creeping stats. It's just feels more meaningful.

I came back after D2 vanilla. Wasn't feeling that in the same way I did D1, so never got the Osiris or Warmind expansions.

Having played through them as a requirement for the Forsaken expansion I'm glad I waited until they were discounted.

That said, I'm back in love with Destiny like the first game. As others have said the way infusion works encourages you to use the different gear that drops which in turn forces you to learn how different weapon types play best, and also change the way you approach missions or set pieces.

Currently at around 533 on my main Warlock account and trying, where possible, to find others online at same time doing the dreaming well. Had a few issues with it freezing out - ie not accepting charges, but all in all, good fun.

Question - people are mention EP - what's that? Seems from skimming last couple of pages it's a decent spot to grab some better gear?

Also, if anyone needs one (possibly two) more to run a raid, feel free to add me. McWig is the gamer tag. Ideally I'd like to find a group that wants to explore and solve the raid themselves, without relying in youtube/reddit/online help.

I don't think anyone starting the game fresh just now is going to be too bothered about the infusion economy for a good while yet. And I assume all the Y1 campaign/quest exotics are available in the same ways they always were.

Yeah, I quite like the new infusion economy really. It could maybe do with a bit of a tweak, but it's good to have to swap gear around as you're levelling - which you will be for ages - and try new things out. Except for Edge Transit, cos that's, like, not a new thing any more. It's really, really old. (I had one single purple engram drop from a yellow bar in the raid last night, after killing many yellow bars. You can guess what it was.)

To actually masterwork something also now costs a fortune. I like that you have to reserve such treatment for your very best - a god roll or similar. I've only MW'd one weapon in three weeks, and that was yesterday, for the raid. I wouldn't have done it - it's not the perfect weapon, just a great roll - but I thought I/we could do with all the help we could get if we were trying to crack a raid encounter. It was really satisfying putting all those materials and cores in, level by level, and getting that mighty ker-lang with the final level at the end, and then sticking an actual mod into it to complete it, just felt really satisfying. Like, the combination of luck (getting a good roll in the first place) and work (for all the valuable cores) and commitment ('here, have this great mod - till death do you part') is a little vignette of what's best about Destiny when it works right.

So yeah, I like it.

(NB It was 'only' a Tigerspite, but it fit the bill for that encounter, and hopefully many more.)

Escalation Protocol

It's from Warmind DLC on Mars (after Campaign) rounds of adds/bosses that come over 7 "Waves" (each wave is several rounds). It's in the world map and is basically a fancy public event.

Pretty hard (you need 6+ people even at light 500) but drops gear (redundant in Y2 now as no perks) and possibly weapons (very good)

It's fun - but relies on luck or a lot of planning to find an instance with enough people playing it. You've probably driven past inactivate EP sometimes. (Because you can only land on a planet as teams of 3)

Ahhhh ok, yes, I ended up in one of those on Mars (?) the other day. Think we got to the third wave but we're overwhelmed by endless waves of cursed thrall and sword wielding knights....

Cheers

Not to mention an exotic!* :quote:

Oh, aye, I forgot about that. Graviton Lance. Some fellas just seem to get all the new ones, I guess. I have had one new exotic - the Warlock boots, the Geomags - but the other exotics I've had are Graviton, Telesto, Sealed Ahamkara Grasps, Lucky Pants (lol), and I seem to recall Dragon's Shadow or something, which I must have put into something else as I don't have it now.

Oh, I did get Queenbreaker too, but although it's new to D2 it's not really new, is it? I never got on with it in D1 and it's no different now really.

Fuck those guys that get all the new ones. I bet they got new ones this morning too

I've had my fair share of dupes. Teleso, Suros, some Warlock robe, the Stag, Foeseeker, Colony, Prometheus Lens, Huckleberry, Graviton and the exotic sparrow from the strikes x2.

How about some of hte new stuff bungo!
