Destiny 2: Lightfall

Got to the first enemies with 13 minutes left on the clock. Thought that was plenty. Thought wrong.

There are some nice hidey-places shown in that video though which I didn't realize existed. Especially the one in the third room, where you take out the Knight on the upper-left and steal his spot for a while.

If you can get to the last room with 7 minutes left, you should be fine. Use Polaris Lance and a sniper on the bosses in the last room (pickup some heavy from the last big room before you drop down for your sniper) and use solar supers to clear adds (or an arcstrider if you have one or 2, as they wreck shit easy mode). You can drop down and stay at the back of the drop down part without having to worry about the adds/bosses too much and the wall things that bump you wont be a problem at all untill you go in with your super (and kill shit and likely die, but there'll be less adds then, so clear lines on the bosses).

Polaris Lance makes the boss room a piece of piss with 3 of you shooting the bosses. Infinite ammo and big explosions = ez win.

The whole quest is great, especially now it's more manageable. It means you can run people through without feeling particularly pressured. The hardest part is waiting for @Mr Ben to take his shoes and socks off so he can use his toes to count for the Oracle sequence ;)

Nah, its trying to concentrate while Gorf is talking about whiskey the whole run. I'd also like to see you do the oracle bit without me :P

Anyway @Scruff, I forgot to tell you about the easy way to get arc melee kills as a warlock.

Go to your nightfall five of swords ticket and put on brawler and arc singe modifier on that, wear crown of tempests, and launch the prestige nightfall. Go into any lost sector and you’ll get the melee kills done in no time.

Probably too late now, as you'll likely have got them using the EP date change trick.

I did. I'm also close to finishing up the blue armour on my second character

Also I wouldn't! I know the first sequence of Oracles but I stopped paying attention after that. I need all my concentration to try and work out where I'm supposed to be jumping in the inky blackness :D

I am really quite enjoying recent Destiny.

Whisper is a great, borderline game-breaking, addition exactly as secret hard-to-obtain Exotics should be. The Solstice is mostly fun grind (notable exceptions for the 30 Super kills and some of the abilities like Solar Supers etc) and I now have a pretty decent-looking set of 400 Armour.

The reward for a Prestige Raid Lair (400 Weapon) is worthwhile.

So far, I'm mostly not loving the Restricted Loadout on the Prestige Lairs, and I've only really enjoyed one of the modifiers (last week's, with the alternating melee/weapon buff was properly fun/challenging.) Arsenal was awful, and Prism this week (although it obviously can work for you) adds too much randomness into whether a shielded enemy is going to destroy you or not (and 1st phase Argos, really makes destroying the mines too heavily pot luck.)

I think the Loadout element, in particular, tends to work against the fun of Destiny (obtaining and then using the best tools for the job) by forcing you to play with stuff that's sub-optimal. This week, it's not too bad (Auto, Pulse, Sniper is a loudout you might well choose to go with in reality) but it leaves you at a disadvantage in several of the encounters (I'd imagine most people would want a scout somewhere during the Spire boss fight) and not in a fun way.

I miss the Hard Raid style where they added complexity/mechanics for Hard Mode. Obviously, they're a bit harder to make, and apparently they couldn't quite nail that for the Lairs. It's a shame, but if something had to give for them to put enough effort into the get well plan and Forsaken, it is probably the right call?

I really want to get a Leviathan Prestige clear during Solstice.

But I might need a day or two out to un-burnout. *Waits to find out the Prestige modifiers at reset*

Tess is selling the fishing emote, as well as the Lobo sparrow, and the ornament is for Sturm (oh goodie!).

Flashpoint is Mars. Nightfall is Will of the Thousands - Kill the giant worm thing on Mars. Heroic Strikes is Void Singe.

Weekly Crucible is Mayhem! Get those super kills on the SoH armour this week.

Escalation Protocol last boss will drop all 3 weapons, and is Naksud, the Famine (Ogre with explodey thralls heal him)

Prestige raid lair is going to be everyones favourite (its not):

  • Prestige: Arsenal: Weapons have no reserve ammo. Emptying the clip of a weapon refills the clips of your holstered weapons.
  • Armsmaster: You've been challenged to wield the following:
    • Kinetic: Sidearm!!! 6 Rat Kings maybe?
    • Energy: Scout Rifle - Polaris Lance may be good, infinite ammo regardless of the Arsenal modifier perhaps?
    • Power: Rocket Launcher <- Spire may be doable with this, but sidearm makes it a ball ache, unless you have one with ridiculous range - I cant remember a kinetic one with good range, though there are some good energy ones.

Dont think EoW will be that much fun this week with that loadout. Wardcliff on Spire boss could be doable, but again, Arsenal and sidearms....

So it looks like we've seen all the prestige raid lair modifiers, and the only changing thing each week may be the weapon loadout. Snipers with that melee/weapon buff may be a thing - fingers crossed!

Sidearms have never not been viable, tbh. The raid one is very good for PvE things.

Its not that bad I think. Would have to work out what the best modifiers would be to get the best score though. Reddit will likely sort that though.

Btw, the combat live stream for Forsaken is now live:

Mods from dismantling random roll weapons. 2 melees will kill people in Crucible again and 3 tap kill with hand cannons etc.

Shoulder charge will 1 hit kill again!! GET THE FUCK IN!

Grenade cooldowns are lower with mods, but the damage seems to be the same - no sticky nade 1 stick kills.

Golden Gun will get more time when in super, thank god, and throwing knives will also be 1 shot when headshotting.

When you kill someone, they drop their ammo (green ammo was shown, but may also be purple). Not really sure I like this, as it smells like D1 Y3, where green ammo was scarce. It better not be like that, as Crucible was a shit show then. Ignore, they mentioned that everyone spawns with special, but when you die you drop it (I assume this is the only way to get more when you run out and dont die). That's actually a far smarter way to handle it rather than in D1.

Mods for armour (cooldown ones) can now stack to 5 rather than 3, and have been buffed from vanilla, so lower cd times across the board.

Its a console stream - Cozmo is using a PS4 black controller. They also arent moving like they're running through grease.

Deej has not sounded so happy since D1 I think - mentions that he cant wait for shotties to be used more frequently now

Ace of Spades has firefly apparently, someone on reddit spotted it as they moused over the perks. Also does more damage when you reload after a kill. I can see this being quite powerful in both PvP and PvE what with the new time to kill changes.

Very impressed with what I saw. Only thing that bothered me were snipers in the crucible and the ammo economy - Special weapons have only 2 shots on spawn, and if you kill someone they drop green ammo; the sniper guy needs to go to the corpse to get that ammo, which is a bit of a pain really. I suppose it stops camping though, so I dunno how this will play out.

In any case, cant wait for 28th of this month. Its gonna be good!

Longer Golden Gun and throwing knife instakills is fantastic news. It’s just been viable since D2 came out.

Ace of Spades was a beast in D1, can’t wait to get my hands on it. It always had firefly though. It’s exotic perk was return one round to chamber on crit kills.

Edit: get what you mean now, of course firefly hasn’t been in D2 so far. Even more excited now

Well bugger. I missed the beginning of the stream, so must have missed this:

Knew they were going to nerf it, as it would be ridiculous in the new raid - 6 Whispers would make short work of any boss really, and Ikelos had to be toned down a bit as it'll be in the energy slot instead of a power weapon. Perk will still work, just have to scope in and out for each shot instead of staying down sights all the time.

Also a complete run down of what was in the stream, some stuff I missed, forgot or whatever:

having the prestige raids drop 400 weapons and the summer event drop 400 armour was really a brilliant idea. pushing to have a good balance of playing all content out thus far including things you might have ignored or miss (crucible, prestige raids, adventures, treasury hunting, strikes). plus having the different loadouts for raids every week is such a great idea. makes you try a bunch of new weapons you may have missed. my only complain is that they don't just let you infuse whatever the fuck you want . that was the one 'bungie' move of the entire thing.

"There is an immense creature at the heart of this place....."

Far, far better trailer than the previous ones.

Best post in the comments section is this, in response to "when can we expect a live action trailer?":

Quote

I hope it shows Prince Uldren being captured by us and being tortured in a chair, once we're done with him we take off the mask and its revealed that Uldren was actually Luke Smith in disguise.

Everyone already knows this, but with it being Mayhem this week, it's probably the best week to grind out a bit of Valor rep if you want to Masterwork the Solstice amour to Rank 5 (or get the Triumph for Rank 3.) Everyone's just running around and it's crazy.

Currently Rank 4.75.

I felt bad as I went in as a Nightstalker. Waiting for the pop on an enemy super and then dragging them out of it, over and over again.

I'm such a cunt.
