Destiny 2: Lightfall

Aye, it's ok. D2checklist is better, though, and its other tools are just way, way better than other sites. Per-character rep levels, who's selling max power gear, raid and Trials histories, weekly progress, and it even has a decent clan page that shows, amongst other things, how long it is since each member last logged in. It's just generally pretty great and when the book comes into play it's likely to be the go-to tracking source.

(On that clan tracker, I think with the expansion not far off and the clan being completely full it's almost time for a pruning - seems unlikely people who last played in September will complain much.)

I just need to know which one Latent Memory 35 is now.

Use this site to find which one you're missing - https://lowlidev.com.au/destiny/maps/mars

Turn off all the map icons at the bottom apart from the memory nodes, then check which one is 35. Pain that there is no search function to find specific numbers, but its better than anything else I've seen.

I have two Ps4 accounts, one Canadian without PS Plus and one Malaysian with PS plus. Destiny 2's free weekend is not available on the Malaysian one. Can I download it on my Canadian account and still play it with my Malaysian account? Thanks.

I've already got the Sunshot catalyst but kinda want the Graviton Lance one too. Can't be arsed doing it all in one Faction Rally so I'm just going to split it over the next few.

Be careful, because you have to do it in one Season, as it currently stands. Rank resets to zero after this Rally and the next one. So you've got 1.5 Rallies left, not an infinite number.

Got the full set of New Monarchy armour so early this time, it’s made the grinding a piece of piss compared to the DO one last time, where I’d gone past rank 35 before getting the last piece!

After finishing DO on the Sunday evening, I think I’ll probably finish NM by the end of tonight. Mainly because our group isn’t raiding anymore at the moment so there’s not much else to do.

Yeah I'm at rank 25 just now with DO so I'll get it done no problem.

If anyone reading's still not bought the game but wouldn't mind a crack now it's partially fixed - this is unlikely, isn't it? - a bundle of the base game plus both year one DLCs is currently available on PSN for £21.99. The offer ends on 9 July.

I wouldn't absolutely bank on it, but if you have the base game and neither expansion that might also not be too far off the best price you'll be able to pay to bring it up to date in order to get Forsaken in September.

August GameInformer cover spread:

everyoneishere-wide.jpg

https://www.gameinformer.com/cover-reveal/2018/06/26/august-cover-revealed-destiny-2-forsaken

Reddit also has some gifs taken from the video in the above link:

I've nicked the relevant info from the reddit thread above, and spoilered it below, mainly because it is a lot, and also because some may be considered spoilers if you want to go in blind (you have been warned)

Dreaming City Details:

  • Can't enter this location until you finish the campaign
  • Quest after the campaign that will open access to this location, but difficulty may be too high to do much here initially for most players
  • Size of location is about the size of Nessus
  • Can ride sparrow here
  • Elven homeland is under threat from "an isidious dragon that has infected its heart."
  • Destination exists across "dual planes", can be pulled into Ascendant Realm with Taken foes
  • Will take weeks to fully unravel the mystery
  • Dreaming City will literally change from one week to the next along a 3-week cycle, as Petra Venj relocates over time
  • A great secret awaits discovery at the end of the cycle, as destination becomes "more and more cursed"

New Scorn Enemies:

  • Mongrels - Tower over battlefield, blast out cascades of lightning that are near-impossible to dodge.
  • Screeb - Scramble on all fours in packs, explode like cursed-thralls but with much more range on explosion.
  • Raiders - Send out explosive spinning saw blades of void energy, can teleport.
  • Lurkers - Carry small shields.
  • Ravagers - Charging hunchbacks with spinning lantern-like censers they slam into the ground, creating a solar flame attack.
  • Chieftains - Throw out three types of totems, one of each element, each does something different. Solar is area of denial turrets of flame, void create shield for all enemies in range, arc will pull guardians towards them.

Another interesting bit about the new Subclass abilities:

  • Scott Taylor said, "On the subclasses right now there are two diamonds on the right at the top and bottom of the screen. We're essentially inserting a third one. We'll probably deliver three on day one, and have the others take a little bit longer than players are used to. imagine one or two weeks before you can even earn the next batch. They won't all be available on day one."

Regarding Mods:

  • Mods are recoverable from dismantled legendary gear
  • Will serve as the player's way of improving and customizing, even beyond random rolls
  • Fewer mods, but more interesting mods
  • They will act as a way of doubling down on weapons that you like
  • Will feature fewer conditionals that limit what class or weapon type they can apply to
  • Most mods learned about by GI will allow you to specialize a peice of gear into a preferred play style, like hip fire or airborne accuracy, or extra damage to vehicles
  • Mods will no longer boost item by 5 points in power

Regarding Perks:

  • Perks are going to be new and different
  • Actual mechanic of random rolls will be the same as it was in D1

Also confirmed you will now have a Triumph Score that's akin to the Grimoire score from D1. This also plays into the special titles you can unlock if you complete lots of triumphs in particular areas, which has been mentioned before. There are allegedly about a dozen of those titles.

Regarding the Director and Weekly Resets:

  • Director screen has been redesigned
  • Less focus on milestones, made to be a more intuitive guide to meaningful content
  • More organic approach to playing how you want, progressing no matter how you prefer to play
  • Crucible and Vanguard nodes are moved to the bottom of the screen, will be joined by Gambit node - All of those activities (And Flashpoints) will refresh every four days (no longer a week).
  • Raids will remain on a weekly cycle
  • Daily heroic missions are back, appear on respective destinations
  • Individual strikes can be picked again

Regarding Lore:

  • Looks like Lore will be its own category inside the Triumphs system
  • Forsaken will introduce a "bevy" of new written stories to chase, both in new and old locations.
  • Dozens of lore fragments to gather
  • Between 10 and 15 distinct stories
  • All readable in-game (assuming this means every piece of discover-able lore will be readable inside the Triumphs system, but doesn't get into details on that)

Regarding Crucible:

  • In addition to the changes coming this summer regarding 6v6 quickplay and always-on Rumble playlist, they specify that "for the first time" curcible improvements are going to be "decoupled" from content expansions. Meaning they will be able to "evolve" crucible at a faster pace and react more quickly than they could in the past. (sidenote: I call bullshit, we've heard this before but it's what they claim)
  • They claim they are going to "lay low" for a few weeks after Forsaken drops before rolling out 4 new maps and a new game mode called Breakthrough
  • It's going to be in the competitive playlist, it's designed for 2 teams of 4
  • Both teams will attempt to control a single Breaker, the breaker allows you to hack into the enemy vault. Once the central breaker is owned by a team, it can't be recaptured by the other team, and the team that did not capture it goes on the defensive. The team that captured the breaker will need to capture the opponents' vault before time runs out or else the defending team wins the round.
  • Very objective focused mode
  • 3 of the 4 new maps were designed specifically for this game mode

New Supers:

  • Titan:
  • Sentinel:(Code of the Commander) Basically Reinhardt. Shield acts normally until blocked, then creates a wider shield that allows friendly attacks through but blocks enemy attacks. Super is called Barrier Shield
  • Sunbreaker:(Code of the Devastator) Melee ability throws the Hammer out into the world, where it stays until you collect it. If you go collect it, it auto recharges. Spinning Sledgehammer of Death is officially called Siege Hammer
  • Striker:(Code of the Missile) Strikers now have a go-to-ground ability if they activate their melee in midair, which acts like a ‘Bunker Buster’. Heat-sealing missile of doom is called Thundercrash
  • Warlock:
  • Voidwalker:(Attunement of Fission) Melee creates an explosion at range(wtf that means) and overcharged grenades create a short range AoE explosion. Nightcrawler-sequence super is called Nova Warp
  • Stormcaller:(Attunement of Control) Melee sends out a long range ball of electricity which eventually detonates like a mini-grenade. Ability kills sometimes create Ionic Traces, which you can pick up to recharge some ability energy. Kamehameha Wave is officially called Chaos Reach
  • Dawnblade:(Attunement of Grace) Melee burns bad dudes and empowers good dudes(YES!) overcharging grenade turns it into a Blessing, which heals and grants an overshield(YESS!) Well of Radiance creates a mega-rift that heals and empowers simultaneously. Any support use of Melee or Nade grants ability energy.
  • Hunter:
  • Nightstalker:(Way of the Wraith) Smoke heavily damages and slows dudes caught in it. Precision kills grant Invis, Voiddancer is actually called Spectral Blades
  • Gunslinger:(Way of a Thousand Cuts) Melee chucks out a fan of knives(Genji??) which burn their targets. Killing burning targets recharges the Melee and while targets are burning, they recharge Dodge Energy. Ultra-hot-knifeplay is actually called Blade Barrage
  • Arcstrider:(Way of the Current) slide-Melee combo will create an uppercut attack with the staff. All abilities give enemies the Electrified debuff and subsequent Melee hits disorient them and grant ability energy. Whirlwind Guard acts like a sword guard (L2/LT presumably) but reflects projectiles. Darth Maul here we come.

The quote around additional supers ("you have to earn the next batch") suggests to me it might be a time-gated quest (a bit like Polaris Lance is in Warmind). That wouldn't be the end of the world really, as long as the quest line itself is decent.

TWAB hasn't got much to say this week, mainly pointing at the Game Informer Forsaken coverage that's just started, and GuardianCon. But they did announce a change to the release schedule for the prestige raid lairs to accommodate world first runs, and give a little bit more detail about the first week's modifiers. The new release times are:

  • Eater of Worlds Prestige, 11 a.m. PDT (19:00 BST) on July 17
  • Spire of Stars Prestige, 10 a.m. PDT (18:00 BST) on July 18
Quote

Dmg04 really wanted me to spill the beans on the Week One weapon loadout and modifier combination. I’m not that nice, but I’ll give you a couple clues. The first week’s modifier is brand new. It’s called Arsenal. It’s weird, and that’s all I’ll say about it. As far as the curated loadout goes, I can only give you a little advice about one slot:

I’ve been looking out from my Time-Worn Spire and I feel an Autumn Wind blowing.

Pulses in the top slot then. And if the modifier lives up to its name, we'll probably all do well right up until the final boss when we'll completely bottle it and end up not finishing at all.

Destiny 2 is free this weekend on Battlenet. It runs at 60FPS on almost any PC under the sun. The definite version of the game. The difference in gameplay is absolutely gargantuan. Plus we have build a community on discord that can only be described as the last bastion of hope on the internet. We have been on every week for nearly a year now. We also have a free key for someone wishing to stay after the weekend.

I would @Oz, but I don't think I could take the grind of 385ing three characters and the RNG not giving me Lucky Pants straight away.

For that reason I'm staying on the poverty* version of the game.

*that doesn't iron out a lack of skill by increasing the fps to ridiculous levels and gives you control inputs that trivialise all content ;)

Fraid I don't get on with kb/m as a control input for shooters. Been 365 on all chars for a few weeks now and every selection of armour and weapons I'd actually use is at max, so apart from finally getting round to doing Eater of Worlds, and maybe getting lucky for the last Ikelos weapon (bloody shotgun would be the one I never got), I feel I'm pretty much done. Until the prestige raid lairs come out, that is, and I might hold off on EoW until it's prestige time. The raids/lairs just don't have the same draw as the D1 raids did - once we'd completed Spire the first time I can't say I felt the pull to do it again, but better, the way I did with the D1 stuff. They just don't feel that satisfying to play through - no sense of journey or purpose, and I dislike most of the aesthetic, and it all feels kinda disassociated from the game, like a series of mini games or something. And the loot's crap. It's always fun to do the first blind raid run and figure everything out, but the real test is how much you want to repeat the experience each week. And here, that's... not much.

Easily the best part of Warmind for me was Escalation Protocol, which did at least feel connected the the theme and tone of the DLC, and obviously does have desirable loot. I hope (and believe) they'll adopt a similar approach to the end game content in Forsaken, and actually bother to connect the raid and the events and quests that expand out from it to the actual DLC as a whole, and make the loot and the investment game reward long term play. They certainly took tangible steps towards that in Warmind - some of the exotic weapons now feel genuinely great to use, which they never really did before, and EP is worthy of repeated play just for the buzz as well as the loot and progression; though at 20-odd completions I feel I've kinda had my fill now, lack of shottie notwithstanding.

I'm hoping they build on that experience, sort out raids, add some more investment loops and continue to strengthen weapons and abilities, and generally up the power game, and then the game may be more suitable for longer term play. I've no idea about what they can do to sort of Crucible - I think that's largely a lost cause now, and the hope for 'competitive' modes probably lies with Gambit and whatever they can spin off from that, because that looks genuinely interesting (even though I'm not sure how much legs just the one game type has without further iteration and development). Regular Crucible though, I just find dull as ditchwater to play - didn't even bother with the milestones for that when I was getting close to the cap. And that's definitely a problem for long-term, regular play, because you'll always run out of PvE content and progression in the end and PvP can help bridge those gaps.

Having said that, I'm hoping the new loot and roll chases will beef the PvE up a bit, but at the same time I don't want them introducing grinds like the faction stuff - ones that are focused on doing menial tasks super-repetitively compressed into small event windows. That's total suckage. They need to find a balance between the grind and the challenge, match the ambition and scope of the rewards to the challenge of the activity, and spread investment across all areas of the game, making rewards that are unique within each area and reflect the tier of the activity appropriately.

They've said enough so far to make me think Forsaken will probably go some way to doing just that, and they've come just far enough since the nadir that was Osiris to show they've learned at least some lessons. I genuinely don't think that DLC is even worth playing, let alone worth coming back to every week (once the raid lair's done, I guess). It's Bungie though, so I'm sure there'll be plenty more missteps on the way.

Anyway, tl;dr - it's not a game I would double dip on, so frame rate notwithstanding there's really no reason to play it on PC as well. Not that it was a serious offer but y'know, just saying.
